You can control an Android phone from a Windows PC without Samsung Multi Control in two main ways: use Microsoft Phone Link for supported phone features, or use scrcpy to mirror and operate the Android screen with your PC’s keyboard and mouse. Phone Link is simpler when your phone supports the feature you want; scrcpy offers more direct screen interaction but its standard setup requires USB debugging and approval on the phone.
Choose Phone Link or scrcpy
Phone Link is the easiest place to start if you want messages, photos, calls, notifications, or a supported phone-screen or app experience. scrcpy is better suited to mirroring the Android display and controlling it directly from Windows. Their compatibility and setup differ:

Set up Microsoft Phone Link
- On your Windows PC, open Phone Link.
- On Android, install or open Link to Windows if needed. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used on the PC.
- Follow Phone Link’s pairing flow. Scan the QR code shown on the PC or enter the code, as prompted.
- Keep the phone and PC on the same Wi-Fi network and grant the Android permissions requested for the features you plan to use.
- Once paired, open the feature you need in Phone Link. If you want screen or app interaction, confirm that your particular phone and the requested experience are supported.
Know what Phone Link’s apps experience does
When available, Phone Link’s Apps experience lets you interact using a PC mouse, trackpad, keyboard, pen, or touch-enabled screen. The apps continue running on the Android phone and are mirrored on the PC; they are not installed as Windows apps. Microsoft notes that some games and apps may not work with mouse or keyboard. The Apps experience has its own requirements, so general Phone Link compatibility does not guarantee it will be available.

Check screen and app support before troubleshooting
Microsoft describes Phone screen as available on Android devices in select markets running Android 10 or later with Link to Windows installed or preinstalled. Availability is not universal across Android phones, and support for Phone screen or Apps is distinct from support for basic Phone Link features. Check Microsoft’s current supported-device list and Apps requirements for the exact feature you want.
Set up scrcpy on Windows
The Genymobile scrcpy project describes its software as mirroring Android devices over USB or TCP/IP and allowing control with a computer’s keyboard and mouse. It works on Windows, does not require root access or an app installed on the phone, and supports Android API 21 and later. For its standard connection, you must enable USB debugging and authorize the computer on the phone.

- Download scrcpy from the official Genymobile GitHub repository. The project identifies that repository as its only official source.
- For a wired connection, connect the phone to the PC with a data-capable USB cable that fits the phone’s port. A charging-only cable will not provide the required data connection.
- On Android, enable Developer options if necessary, then turn on USB debugging in the developer settings. Menu names and locations can vary by phone.
- Unlock the phone and accept its USB debugging authorization prompt for this computer.
- Start scrcpy on Windows. The Android display should appear in a window; use the PC keyboard and mouse to interact.
A cable is only needed for the wired route. scrcpy also supports TCP/IP; follow the project’s current connection documentation for the network setup rather than assuming that USB steps apply unchanged.

Troubleshoot connection and input problems
- Phone Link connects, but screen or app control is missing: Check support for the exact experience and phone model in Microsoft’s device guidance. Basic pairing does not establish that Phone screen or Apps is supported.
- scrcpy does not find the phone: The standard setup depends on ADB detecting the device. Confirm USB debugging is enabled and the phone’s authorization prompt was accepted. The scrcpy FAQ notes that some Windows setups may also need device drivers.
- The screen mirrors, but input does not work: Some phones impose additional input-permission requirements. The scrcpy project notes that some Xiaomi devices may require an additional USB debugging (Security Settings) option to permit input injection; this is device-specific, not a universal requirement.
- You want to avoid USB debugging: scrcpy has a separate OTG mode that does not require USB debugging. It is not the same as the standard mirroring setup, and whether it is available can depend on USB and Windows driver configuration. Consult the project’s current documentation for its setup.
