For the simplest setup, authorize your YouTube account under Settings > Destinations. If you need a custom destination—or are streaming from Livestream Studio—use YouTube’s RTMP URL and Stream Key instead. The direct integration simulcasts automatically when you start the event on Vimeo; an RTMP stream linked to a scheduled YouTube event may also need a separate Go live action in YouTube Live Control Room.
Choose the right connection method

Vimeo’s event simulcast feature supports up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations. These are Vimeo event limits, not limits on how many YouTube channels you can own or manage. See Vimeo’s simulcast instructions and simulcasting overview.
Check the requirements first
- Vimeo plan: Vimeo says event simulcasting requires an Advanced or Premium plan, or an Enterprise plan with the Events feature added.
- YouTube account: The account must be verified to go live. Make sure you can sign in to the intended account or have manager access to its channel.
- Event description: Do not use angle brackets (< or >) in the description; Vimeo says they may prevent the video from streaming to YouTube.
- Production setup: A live event needs a reliable internet connection and a camera connected to a supported encoder. You do not need to buy a new camera or cable just to connect the accounts.

Connect YouTube through Vimeo’s event settings
- Create a Vimeo live event or open the event you want to stream.
- In the event’s production tool, open Settings, then Destinations.
- Select Connect beside YouTube.
- Sign in to YouTube if prompted, then choose the profile or channel that should receive the event.
- Complete the authorization prompts and grant the requested permissions.
- Return to Vimeo, set the YouTube event’s privacy, and save. This setting does not change the Vimeo event’s privacy.
- Check that the YouTube destination toggle is enabled.
- When you are ready, start the event on Vimeo. The enabled YouTube destination should simulcast automatically. Manage the YouTube-facing title, description, and privacy in YouTube Studio.
Vimeo’s direct integration is an event-level connection: authorize the account once for the destination, then start the Vimeo event to send it to YouTube. Vimeo notes that direct YouTube integration supports up to 10 integrated destinations.

Connect a Vimeo event using YouTube RTMP credentials
Use this route when you need a custom RTMP destination. You must obtain the credentials from YouTube for the stream you intend to receive; a Stream Key is sensitive, so keep it private and do not paste it into a public page, chat, or recording.
- In YouTube, follow the encoder setup for your live stream to obtain its RTMP URL and Stream Key. Use YouTube’s current instructions rather than a saved key or URL from an unrelated event.
- Open the Vimeo event and go to Settings > Destinations.
- Scroll to RTMP and select Add.
- Enter a descriptive destination name, then paste YouTube’s RTMP URL and Stream Key into the matching fields.
- Save the destination and start the event through the Vimeo or encoder workflow you are using.
- If the destination is a scheduled YouTube stream, open YouTube Live Control Room and select Go live if YouTube has not started the event automatically.
Vimeo documents this as a custom RTMP route. Its overview says Vimeo events can have up to 20 custom RTMP destinations. For background on the YouTube handoff, see the Vimeo RTMP setup guidance.

Send a Livestream Studio output to YouTube
Livestream Studio’s YouTube workflow changed in October 2024: the current documented method uses YouTube RTMP credentials.
- In YouTube, get the Stream URL and Stream Key for the intended live stream.
- In Livestream Studio, open the Stream tab and add the YouTube provider.
- Enter the YouTube Stream URL and Stream Key.
- Select the YouTube destination and choose Go Live in Studio.
Vimeo recommends simulcasting through the Vimeo platform if your account has Advanced, Premium, or Enterprise with Events, but its Studio RTMP steps remain documented. See Vimeo’s Livestream Studio instructions.

Keep the connection reliable and avoid a split archive
Prepare the network
- Use Ethernet on a dedicated, unshared network when practical.
- Check upload speed regularly and set the outgoing encoder bitrate well below available upload capacity, leaving room for network fluctuations.
- Use RTMPS when the encoder supports it.
These are Vimeo’s general reliability recommendations; they are not a requirement to purchase particular equipment. See its network recommendations.
Be careful when changing a destination midstream
- A destination enabled on a recurring event remains enabled by default for later occurrences unless you turn it off.
- Turning a destination off during a broadcast archives that event on the destination immediately.
- Turning it back on can create a new event on that destination, splitting one broadcast into separate destination events.
- Some platforms require a separate action in their own portal or app. For scheduled YouTube RTMP streams, check Live Control Room for the manual Go live step.
If Vimeo reports an RTMPS destination URL error, its overview says adding port 443 to the RTMPS URL may resolve it. In Enterprise Workspaces, social connections are user-specific; Workspace and Organization settings may govern sharing and privacy, with Organization settings taking precedence. Troubleshoot common connection problems
YouTube does not appear as a destination
Check that the Vimeo plan includes event simulcasting, then open the event’s production tool and look under Settings > Destinations. If you are using a Workspace, confirm that the signed-in user has access to the intended social connection.
The YouTube destination is connected but nothing is live
For direct integration, verify that the destination toggle is enabled and start the event on Vimeo. For RTMP, check that the URL and Stream Key match the intended YouTube stream. If it is scheduled, inspect YouTube Live Control Room and select Go live if required.

The RTMP URL is rejected
Recheck the URL and key against the YouTube encoder details. If Vimeo specifically reports an RTMPS destination URL error, Vimeo says adding port 443 to the RTMPS URL may resolve it.
The video does not reach YouTube despite starting
Check network stability, available upload speed, encoder bitrate, and whether another platform-side go-live action is pending. Use Ethernet where possible and leave capacity above the outgoing bitrate to absorb fluctuations.
The event description prevents streaming
Remove angle brackets (< and >) from the Vimeo event description, then save and retry; Vimeo identifies those characters as a possible cause of the YouTube stream failing.
