The short answer: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One do not cross-play in ARK: Survival Evolved, and PlayStation does not cross-play with PC. Xbox can play with the Windows PC version distributed through the Microsoft Store. Console-specific join instructions for Survival Evolved are not reliably documented, so do not assume that PC methods such as entering an IP address will work on a console.

Check compatibility before you search
Many failed connection attempts are caused by a platform mismatch rather than a missing server. ARK: Survival Evolved uses separate console ecosystems, and the crossplay rules are narrower than the word “crossplay” often suggests.

A community discussion also reports that PS4 and Xbox players cannot play together on either official or unofficial servers. Because that statement is not from a platform publisher, use it as supporting evidence rather than a substitute for the server owner’s current platform information. In practical terms, a PS4 player should look for a PS4-compatible server, while an Xbox player should verify that the server is intended for Xbox or the Xbox/Microsoft Store PC pairing.

Identify the server details you actually need
Ask the administrator for all of the following before opening the game:
- The exact server name, including punctuation, spacing and capitalization.
- Whether it is an official or unofficial server.
- Which platform or crossplay pairing it supports.
- Whether it requires a password.
- Whether it is running Survival Evolved, not the separate sequel, ARK: Survival Ascended.
- Whether the server has just started or changed hosts and may still be registering in the browser.
For an unofficial server, the name shown in the browser may not match a shortened name used in a message or community post. Search using the distinctive part supplied by the owner, then verify the full listing before joining.

No official, fetched source confirms a single universal menu path for Survival Evolved on PS4 and Xbox One. Menu wording can also vary by console, game update and server configuration. The following is therefore a safe workflow, not a guaranteed button-by-button recipe.
- Start the correct game. Launch ARK: Survival Evolved, not Survival Ascended. Confirm that your console account is signed in to the platform network required by the game.
- Open the game’s multiplayer/server browser. Look for the normal option used to find or join an ARK session. Do not assume that a PC-only direct-connect command will be available on your console.
- Choose the server category supplied by the owner. If the server is unofficial, switch away from the Official list to the Unofficial list. A server cannot appear while you are viewing a different category.
- Search for the exact name. Use the owner’s spelling and remove extra spaces if the browser search is sensitive to them. If the owner supplied a password, keep it available for the join prompt.
- Expose password-protected listings when necessary. Community hosting guidance says that a hidden “show password protected” option can prevent a passworded server from appearing. Enable that option if your version provides it.
- Allow time for a new server to register. A freshly started server may need several minutes before it appears in the public list. Ask the owner when it was started before repeatedly changing filters.
- Join only after checking the platform. If a result has a similar name but is for another platform or edition, do not select it. Ask the administrator for a platform-specific listing or instructions.
If the server remains absent after those checks, contact the owner. Console Survival Evolved does not have a verified, universal direct-IP procedure in the available documentation, so an administrator’s platform-specific instructions are more reliable than a PC tutorial.
What PC instructions do—and do not—tell you about console joining
Several well-known methods are documented for PC players. They are useful for understanding why a console attempt may fail, but they should not be copied to PS4 or Xbox One as though the interfaces were identical.

Steam server favorites
On Steam, a player can add the server’s IP:PORT in the Steam server browser’s Favorites tab, then use that saved entry to launch or find the server. This is a Steam feature and is not confirmed as a console feature.
PC in-game browser
On PC, the documented route is to launch the game, choose Join ARK, and filter the list to unofficial servers. This confirms a PC workflow; it does not verify that PS4 or Xbox One exposes the same labels or list behavior.
PC console command
For Epic or other PC installations where the in-game console is available, the documented command is:
open SERVERIP:PORTReplace the placeholders with the address and port supplied by the administrator. There is no evidence that this command is available or usable on PS4 or Xbox One in Survival Evolved. Do not treat a guide written for Epic or Steam as a console solution.
Official, unofficial and rented servers
Official servers
Official servers are selected through the game’s official-server listings. They are not normally joined by entering an administrator-provided private address. If a friend gives you an IP address for an official server, ask whether the address actually refers to a different, unofficial host.

Unofficial servers
Unofficial servers are the most likely place to encounter a private name, password and administrator-controlled restart schedule. Use the Unofficial category when the owner identifies the server that way, and check the password-visibility setting if the listing is protected.
Rented or privately hosted servers
A rented server still needs to be configured for the platform you are using. A host may advertise one name to several communities while operating separate platform instances. Confirm the exact console edition and platform before troubleshooting your connection.
When an ARK server is not showing on PS4 or Xbox One
Work through these checks in order so that a simple filter problem is not mistaken for a crossplay restriction.
1. You are viewing the wrong list
Switch between Official and Unofficial only according to the server owner’s description. A server listed as unofficial will not be found while the browser is restricted to official sessions.

If the server requires a password, enable the option to show password-protected servers when that option is present. You can then select the listing and enter the password at the join prompt.

3. The server has just been started
Public lists may not update immediately after a restart or first launch. Wait several minutes, then search again. Ask the owner to confirm that the server is online rather than repeatedly reinstalling the game.
4. The name or edition is wrong
Check every character in the server name and confirm that the owner is running Survival Evolved. Instructions or screenshots for Survival Ascended may show different filters and controls.
5. The platform is incompatible
A PS4 player cannot solve a PS4-to-Xbox or PS4-to-PC restriction with a different search term. An Xbox player should also verify whether the server supports Xbox alone or the Xbox/Microsoft Store PC pairing.
6. The owner’s instructions are for PC
Commands such as open SERVERIP:PORT, Steam Favorites and third-party server lists are documented for PC contexts, not as verified console methods. Request instructions specifically written for your console and this edition of the game.
Joining a friend’s server
Start by asking which console the friend is using and whether the session is official, unofficial or privately hosted. If one player is on PS4 and the other is on Xbox One, they cannot join each other’s Survival Evolved server. If the friend is on PC, determine whether the PC copy is the Microsoft Store version; Xbox-to-Microsoft-Store-PC crossplay is the pairing documented as working.
Once the platform relationship is valid, ask the host for the exact server name, password and current status. Use the browser workflow above rather than assuming that a friend’s invitation can bridge an unsupported platform pair.

Do not copy the Ascended console instructions to Evolved
A console guide for ARK: Survival Ascended describes a flow using Join Game, switching the session filter to Unofficial, enabling Show Player Servers and searching for the server name. That sequence belongs to Ascended; it is not proof of the corresponding menu path in Survival Evolved.
If an administrator tells you to use those labels in Survival Evolved, treat the advice as an unconfirmed workaround and ask which game version and console produced the instructions. The distinction matters because a menu option present in the sequel may be absent or named differently in Evolved.
A practical decision tree
- PS4 to Xbox One: stop; this pairing is not supported for Evolved.
- PS4 to PC: stop; PlayStation and PC do not cross-play for Evolved.
- Xbox One to Microsoft Store PC: confirm that both copies and the server are configured for that pairing, then use the server owner’s Xbox-compatible instructions.
- Same-console request: obtain the exact server name, type and password, then search the appropriate in-game list.
- Server missing: check Unofficial versus Official, reveal password-protected servers, wait for registration and ask the owner to confirm that the listing is online.
- Only an IP address is provided: do not assume it can be entered on console; request a verified PS4 or Xbox One join method.
What to send the server owner when support is needed
A precise report gets a faster answer than “the server is gone.” Include your console model, the game edition, the exact server name, the list you searched, whether password-protected servers were shown, the time of your last search and the error message, if any. Also state whether the other players are on PS4, Xbox One or Microsoft Store PC. This lets the administrator distinguish a registration delay from an impossible crossplay pairing.
