To join a dedicated Bedrock server, use either BedrockConnect (a manual DNS redirect that works from any network) or Bedrock Together (a phone app that makes the server appear as a LAN world while your phone and Xbox share Wi-Fi). The server must be running Bedrock Edition, and its connection port must accept UDP traffic—usually 19132 for IPv4.

If you do not have a server yet, look for a reputable Bedrock server hosting service that supplies a Bedrock address and port. Hosting is optional for this guide; no special Xbox accessory or physical networking product is required.

Both methods ultimately send the Xbox to the server address and port supplied by the server owner, but they solve the Xbox interface limitation in different ways.

If you only need to connect once and both devices are at home, Bedrock Together usually involves fewer Xbox settings. For a remote server, BedrockConnect is the practical route. BedrockConnect depends on a community redirect service, while Bedrock Together depends on the companion app and your local network, so either method can stop working if that third-party service changes.

Why the normal Add Server button is confusing on Xbox
Bedrock on phones, Windows and some other platforms can expose server-entry controls that are not consistently present on Xbox. On current Xbox builds, the Servers tab is designed around featured servers, so an arbitrary IP-and-port field may not appear. Online guides that show Servers > Add Server can describe a different platform or an older interface; do not assume that control exists on your console.
The Xbox friends list is not a substitute for a dedicated-server address. Bedrock Dedicated Server does not provide the same invite path as a hosted Realm, and Bedrock servers cannot generally be joined through the Xbox network friends list. Use one of the two connection methods below instead.

What you need before starting
- An Xbox One or Xbox Series console running Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
- The server’s numeric IP address and port from its administrator. Use the address shown in the host’s control panel, not a Java-only hostname.
- A server that is online and accepting Bedrock connections.
- For BedrockConnect, permission to edit the Xbox network DNS settings.
- For Bedrock Together, a phone on the same non-guest Wi-Fi network as the Xbox.
- If you operate the server, UDP port forwarding and firewall rules configured for the Bedrock port.
Keep the address and port together. A typical entry looks like 203.0.113.20:19132, but replace that example with the real values supplied by the server owner. Ask the administrator whether the address is IPv4 or IPv6 and whether a custom port is in use. Do not assume that a Java server, a Realm, or a website hostname is reachable by Bedrock on Xbox.
Method 1: connect with BedrockConnect DNS
BedrockConnect uses a DNS redirect so a featured-server tile opens a custom screen where you can type a server address. It does not install anything on the Xbox. The DNS setting applies to the console’s network connection, so remember which network you edited if you use more than one Wi-Fi or wired connection.
Select a current BedrockConnect DNS address
These addresses have appeared in connection guides, but they are community-operated and can change. Confirm the current address in BedrockConnect’s own documentation before relying on it.

Use one BedrockConnect address as the primary DNS. The commonly suggested secondary value is 8.8.8.8. If a listed address stops redirecting, do not keep retrying the same value; check BedrockConnect’s current instructions or switch to Bedrock Together. DNS redirect services are third-party infrastructure, not an Xbox or Mojang feature, so availability and the exact addresses can change.

Change the Xbox DNS settings
- Press the Xbox button and open Profile & system > Settings.
- Go to General > Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings.
- Select Manual.
- Enter a current BedrockConnect address as Primary DNS, such as
173.82.100.84. - Enter
8.8.8.8as Secondary DNS, unless the current BedrockConnect instructions specify a different value. - Return to the network screen and run the Xbox network test. A successful test confirms that the console can reach the network; it does not prove that the target Minecraft server is online.
If the console reports a DNS error, check every digit and make sure you edited the active network adapter. Wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi can have separate settings. Do not change the router’s DNS unless you intend to redirect every device in the home; the Xbox path above changes only the console.
Open the redirect screen in Minecraft
- Start Minecraft and open the Servers tab.
- Choose any available Featured Server. The tile is being used to trigger the DNS redirect; you are not committing to that server.
- Select Connect to a Server when the custom BedrockConnect screen appears.
- Enter the target server’s numeric IP address and port. If the host uses the normal IPv4 port, enter
19132; use the administrator’s port when it differs. - Submit the form and wait for the server list or world to load. Connection time depends on the server and your network.
Use an IP address rather than a custom domain or SRV record in this flow. BedrockConnect’s redirect screen does not reliably resolve those records, so copy the numeric address and port shown by the server host. If the address contains a colon because it is IPv6, follow the screen’s formatting requirements and confirm that the server administrator actually supports IPv6.
Restore your original DNS after playing
- Open Settings > General > Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings again.
- Select Automatic.
- Restart Minecraft if the Servers tab still behaves as though the redirect is active.
Returning to Automatic removes the console-wide DNS dependency. It does not change your router or the server itself. If you switch between home, school, or mobile-hotspot networks, verify the DNS mode each time; a manual value that worked on one network may fail on another.
Method 2: connect with Bedrock Together on the same Wi-Fi
Bedrock Together runs on a phone and presents the remote server to Minecraft as a local LAN game. No Xbox DNS change is required, but the local-network condition is strict. This method is useful when you cannot or do not want to alter console network settings.
Check the local-network requirements
- The phone running Bedrock Together and the Xbox must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- A phone using mobile data cannot provide the LAN bridge.
- Guest Wi-Fi networks often isolate devices, even when their network name looks the same. Use the main home network.
- Keep the phone powered, unlocked and running the app until the Xbox has joined.
- Some routers isolate wireless clients or place 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands in separate networks. If discovery fails, connect both devices to the same SSID and disable client isolation in the router.
Transfer the server to Xbox
- Install and open Bedrock Together on the phone.
- Enter the server’s IP address in the app and enter its Bedrock port. The usual IPv4 port is
19132, but a nonstandard port must be entered exactly. - Start the app’s transfer or hosting function.
- On Xbox, open Minecraft and select Play > Worlds.
- Look for the server as a joinable LAN game, select it, and connect.
- Leave Bedrock Together open and keep the phone awake until the world has loaded. Closing or backgrounding the app can remove the LAN listing.
The phone does not host a copy of the world; it advertises a route to the existing server. You still need the server to remain online, and the server owner must permit your account to join. If the app asks for local-network permission, allow it or the Xbox will not receive the advertisement.
If the entry never appears, verify the Wi-Fi relationship before changing server settings. A guest network, a cellular connection or a router that isolates wireless clients prevents the Xbox from seeing the phone.

Server-side settings that determine whether a join succeeds
A correctly configured Xbox can still fail when the server is stopped, the wrong edition is running or the required UDP port is blocked. These checks are for the administrator or hosting provider.
Use Bedrock networking and the correct port

Bedrock Dedicated Server uses UDP rather than the TCP port commonly associated with Java servers. If the administrator changed server-port, the Xbox entry must use that changed value. A port number alone does not identify the edition: confirm that the process listening there is Bedrock Dedicated Server or another Bedrock-compatible service.
Forward the port and allow it through the firewall
- Confirm the Bedrock server process is running and listening on the configured port.
- On the hosting router, forward that port as UDP to the server computer’s local IP address. A TCP-only rule will not provide a normal Bedrock join.
- Allow the same UDP port through the host computer’s firewall.
- Give remote players the public address that reaches the router, together with the forwarded port. A private address such as
192.168.x.xnormally works only inside the local network. - Restart the server after changing
server.propertiesand retest the connection.
Keep the server computer’s local address reserved in the router so a reboot does not send the forwarding rule to the wrong device. If the host is behind carrier-grade NAT, ordinary inbound forwarding may not work; ask the hosting provider for its supported external address instead of repeatedly changing Xbox settings.
Enable LAN discovery when using Bedrock Together
For a LAN listing, the server must answer local discovery requests. Bedrock Dedicated Server exposes the enable-lan-visibility setting for this purpose. A user-submitted Minecraft Feedback report says console discovery may be hardcoded to UDP port 19132; that report is not an official guarantee, so using the default port is the safest choice for Bedrock Together when you control the server.
How to decide between the two methods
Choose BedrockConnect when the server is remote, the phone cannot share Wi-Fi, or several Xbox consoles need to use the same remote route. Choose Bedrock Together when the server owner wants a quick local bridge and you can keep a phone on the same primary Wi-Fi. BedrockConnect is reversible by selecting Automatic DNS, but it adds a dependency on a current redirect address. Bedrock Together leaves Xbox DNS untouched, but the LAN listing disappears when the app stops or the phone leaves the network. Neither method requires buying a controller, adapter, or dedicated console hardware.
Troubleshoot the exact failure
The Servers tab looks unchanged after editing DNS
- Recheck the primary DNS digits; one mistyped digit sends the console to a normal DNS service.
- Confirm the Xbox is still using Manual DNS and that the network test completed.
- Fully quit Minecraft, restart it, and try another featured-server tile.
- Try a current BedrockConnect address. The address
104.238.130.180has been reported as unreliable for some players. - If the redirect remains unavailable, reset DNS to Automatic and use Bedrock Together instead.
The custom screen opens but the server times out
- Copy the server IP and port again from the administrator’s panel.
- Ask the administrator to confirm that the Bedrock service—not only a Java service—is running.
- Verify UDP forwarding and the host firewall rule. A TCP rule alone is insufficient.
- Check whether the administrator changed
server-port; do not assume the default19132. - If the server recently upgraded, ask which Bedrock version and transport it expects.
- Test from another network if possible. A successful local connection with a failed remote connection usually points to forwarding, NAT, or firewall configuration.
Bedrock Together does not show a LAN game
- Put both devices on the same primary Wi-Fi network, not a guest SSID.
- Disable mobile data on the phone temporarily so the app uses Wi-Fi.
- Keep the app open and the phone screen awake while viewing Play > Worlds on Xbox.
- Check that LAN visibility is enabled and that the server is listening on the selected port.
- If you selected a nondefault port, test the administrator’s standard
19132configuration where possible because console discovery behavior can be version-sensitive. - Restart the app after granting local-network permission, then refresh the Worlds list on Xbox.
The connection works once and then disappears
BedrockTogether’s listing exists only while the phone is providing the bridge. Reopen the app and start the transfer again. For BedrockConnect, check that the manual DNS values were not replaced by Automatic DNS after a network change. A server restart, changed public IP, or changed port can also invalidate an address that previously worked.

Players can join locally but not from outside
That pattern usually means the server itself is healthy but the public route is incomplete. Confirm the router forwards UDP, the host firewall allows the same port, and remote players receive the public address rather than a private LAN address. If the internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, request a reachable address or use a hosting service that supports inbound Bedrock traffic.

Bedrock networking is evolving. The Bedrock protocol documentation describes NetherNet, a WebRTC-based transport used alongside legacy RakNet, and reports that NetherNet became the default dedicated-server transport in version 26.50. Port-forwarding advice can therefore vary with the server version. Before changing a production server’s network rules, check the release notes for the exact Bedrock Dedicated Server build in use and follow its current port requirements. Do not assume that advice written for an older release applies unchanged after an update.
What Xbox friends can and cannot do
Adding the server owner as an Xbox friend does not create a dedicated-server invitation path. Friends-list joining is associated with services that expose their own invitation system, while a self-hosted Bedrock Dedicated Server requires a direct network route such as BedrockConnect or a LAN bridge such as Bedrock Together. Do not wait for the server to appear under Friends when it has not been published through one of those services.
Security and privacy precautions
Use only DNS addresses and companion apps obtained from their current official project pages. A DNS redirect can affect Minecraft traffic on the console, and a phone bridge can see the server address you enter. Never share administrator credentials, console passwords, or payment details in a connection form. When finished, restore Automatic DNS if you do not need the redirect, and remove the companion app’s local-network permission if you no longer use it.

- Confirm the target is a Bedrock server and is online.
- Record the numeric IP and Bedrock port.
- Choose BedrockConnect for a remote connection, or Bedrock Together when phone and Xbox share Wi-Fi.
- Use UDP, normally port
19132for IPv4 or19133for IPv6. - For BedrockConnect, use a current DNS address, open a featured server, then choose Connect to a Server.
- For Bedrock Together, keep the phone app open and select the transferred game under Play > Worlds.
- If the join fails, test the address, port, firewall and version before changing unrelated Xbox settings.
- Reset DNS to Automatic when you finish using BedrockConnect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add a Bedrock server directly on Xbox?
Xbox does not consistently provide a dependable Add Server address field. Use BedrockConnect DNS to open a custom address screen, or use Bedrock Together to advertise the server as a LAN game.
Which port should I enter for a Bedrock server?
The usual IPv4 port is UDP 19132. The default IPv6 port is UDP 19133. Always use the administrator’s configured port if it differs.
Can I join a dedicated server from my Xbox friends list?
Not normally. Bedrock Dedicated Server does not expose the same invite path as Realms, and dedicated servers are not generally joined through the Xbox network friends list.
Does BedrockConnect work on any internet connection?

Why does a Java server address fail on Xbox?
