To connect OBS to Facebook Live, prepare and test your OBS scene, get the stream details through Facebook’s current live-video workflow, enter them in OBS, then follow Facebook’s on-screen steps to preview and publish. Facebook’s exact labels and eligibility rules can vary, so use the live workflow available to your account rather than relying on a fixed set of clicks.
Before you connect OBS to Facebook Live
You need OBS Studio installed, a scene ready to broadcast, and access to Facebook’s live-video creation flow. A webcam is optional: OBS can send a screen, game, window, capture card, or other scene without a camera.

- Check that the microphone and any other audio devices you intend to use are selected.
- Confirm the OBS audio meters respond when you speak or play sound.
- Decide what your scene should show and remove any private information from desktop or window captures.
Set up and test your OBS scene
- In OBS, open Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard and follow the prompts. The wizard considers your intended use, computer resources, and network conditions; start with its recommendations rather than assuming one output setting works for every computer and connection. See the OBS Quick Start Guide.
- In the Sources panel, add the inputs you need. Common options include display or window capture, game capture on Windows, a webcam, or a capture card. Arrange and resize them in the preview.
- Check the audio mixer and selected devices. Make a brief recording or test stream if you need to confirm that picture and sound are both correct.
Get the Facebook stream details
Open Facebook’s live-video creation workflow and choose its streaming-software option if it is offered for your account. Facebook has described streaming software and external hardware as ways to broadcast from a computer, and directs users to Live Producer for current instructions. Its public announcement dates to 2017, so it is not a reliable guide to today’s button names or eligibility rules: Meta’s March 22, 2017 announcement.
Use the stream information Facebook presents in the current workflow. The exact current interface labels, availability, and stream-key behavior are not established here; follow the instructions shown to your account rather than assuming every account sees the same options.

Enter the destination in OBS
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream.
- Choose a listed service if the current OBS build offers a working preset for your Facebook destination. Otherwise, choose the custom streaming-server option if Facebook provides the required server address and key fields.
- Enter the server information and Stream Key exactly as Facebook supplies them. Treat the key as a password: do not show it in a screen capture, share it, or include it in a public post.
- Apply the settings. If the connection fails, check the service selection and re-enter the key and server details from Facebook’s live workflow.
OBS documents the general service/custom-server and Stream Key setup, but the Facebook preset and labels may differ by OBS build. See the OBS overview.
Choose output settings and test the signal
There is no single Facebook-specific resolution, frame rate, bitrate, keyframe interval, or codec established by the sources cited here. Use the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard, then make choices appropriate to your computer and upload connection. Higher frame rates can demand more system resources; OBS notes that 60 fps can be more taxing than 30 fps. Do not copy a universal bitrate or quality preset without confirming it suits both your connection and Facebook’s current requirements.

- Review Settings → Output and confirm OBS is using settings you can sustain.
- Start a short test signal from OBS and check the Facebook preview or equivalent controls in the current live workflow.
- Verify the scene, audio, and any overlays in the preview. OBS strongly recommends a short test before a first stream; see its Quick Start Guide.
- When the preview is right, follow Facebook’s current on-screen publishing steps. The order and exact control labels are not universal enough to promise a specific “Go Live” button.
Service preset or custom server?
These are the two general destination paths in OBS. Which one to use depends on the options in your current OBS build and the details Facebook supplies.

| Listed service | Your OBS build offers a Facebook destination that works with the account’s current live workflow. | That the service selection and key supplied by Facebook connect successfully in a test. |
| Custom streaming server | Facebook supplies a server address and Stream Key, and a suitable preset is unavailable or does not fit the workflow. | Both fields are entered exactly as supplied and the test signal appears in Facebook’s preview. |
Troubleshoot common connection problems
Facebook does not show a preview
- Confirm OBS is sending a signal and that the Stream Key and server information match the current Facebook workflow.
- Check whether you selected a service preset or custom server path that matches the information Facebook provided.
- Refresh or restart the connection using the current account workflow; do not reuse a key if Facebook has issued a replacement.
The stream drops frames or disconnects
OBS says rising dropped frames can indicate an unstable computer-to-service connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Check network stability and reduce the output bitrate if necessary, then test again. OBS sends the stream directly from your computer to the destination service; OBS is not an intermediary streaming server. See OBS connection troubleshooting.

There is no sound or the wrong audio is heard
- Check OBS’s selected microphone and desktop or application audio devices.
- Watch the mixer meters while speaking or playing sound; a silent meter points to device selection or capture configuration rather than a Facebook publishing control.
- Check the Facebook preview before publishing so you can catch muted or unintended audio.
The picture is wrong, cropped, or missing
- Confirm the intended source is visible and enabled in the active scene.
- Check the source’s position and scale in the OBS preview.
- For camera input, confirm the device is available to OBS and selected as a Video Capture Source. A webcam is an optional scene input, not a requirement for connecting OBS to Facebook Live. See the OBS webcam guide.
