There are two separate steps: connect Streamlabs Chatbot to your Discord server, then link each person’s Discord account to their Twitch account if they need Discord commands that use Twitch identity, points, permissions, cooldowns, or costs. Connecting the bot to the server does not automatically link users or enable every Twitch command in Discord.
Before you start
- Set up the Twitch Bot connection in Streamlabs Chatbot first. Streamlabs lists this as a prerequisite for connecting the desktop Chatbot to Discord.
- You need access to a Discord account that can create an application and authorize a bot to join the intended server.
- Use the desktop Streamlabs Chatbot instructions for the version you have installed. Streamlabs’ FAQ says desktop Chatbot is Windows-only; it must remain open and connected to stay in chat.

Connect Streamlabs Chatbot to a Discord server
- Confirm Twitch Bot is connected. Open Streamlabs Chatbot and check its Twitch Bot connection before configuring Discord.
- Create a Discord application and bot. Sign in to Discord’s application/developer interface, create a new application, open its Bot area, and add a bot user.
- Copy the Client ID. Keep the application’s Client ID available for the Chatbot connection settings.
- Authorize the bot for your server. In Streamlabs Chatbot, open Connections → Discord Bot, enter the Client ID, and click Join Server. In the browser authorization flow, choose the intended server and authorize the application.
- Enter the bot token. Return to Connections → Discord Bot, reveal and copy the bot token, then paste it into the token field. Treat the token like a password: do not post it publicly or include it in screenshots shared in public channels.
- Choose the bot’s channel and connect. Enter the Discord channel name without the leading
#, then click Connect. Streamlabs says the connection should complete within seconds. - Link users when required. If Discord commands need a user’s Twitch identity, points, permissions, cooldowns, or costs, follow the separate account-linking steps below.
Streamlabs notes that the Twitch connection step for linked commands can be skipped when the bot will only provide timers and announcements. Interface labels can change between versions, so if a label differs, check the current Streamlabs guide for the installed desktop app.

Link an individual Discord account to Twitch
This is a per-user identity link, not the bot’s server invitation. Each viewer who needs commands tied to their Twitch account must link their own accounts.

- In Discord, message the bot with
!linkdiscord. - Copy the response text beginning with
/w. - Open Twitch and go to the Streamlabs Twitch account named in the bot’s response or Streamlabs’ instructions. Paste the response into Twitch chat without editing it, then send it as a whisper.
- Wait for the bot to confirm in Discord that linking completed.
- Try the Discord command again. If it still does not work, ask the bot owner to check whether that command is enabled and configured for Discord.
The procedure above follows Streamlabs’ linking instructions. A successful identity link does not itself configure every command for Discord.
What the connection lets the bot do
Streamlabs describes the Discord bot connection as a way to announce when a stream goes live. The bot can also answer commands, run mini-games, and post timers. Commands that depend on a viewer’s Twitch identity or settings require the separate account link, and the bot owner must configure commands for Discord where needed.

Streamlabs Chatbot compatibility and Cloudbot
Streamlabs’ desktop Chatbot FAQ identifies the desktop app as Windows-only and says it has to stay open and connected to remain in chat. For Linux or Mac, Streamlabs recommends Cloudbot, a different cloud-based Streamlabs chatbot. Do not assume Cloudbot has identical setup steps or feature support; consult its current quick guide for the functions and platforms it supports.

Troubleshooting
The Discord Bot option is missing
Confirm you are using the desktop Chatbot rather than another Streamlabs product, then compare the installed version’s interface with the current setup guide. Streamlabs’ FAQ notes that some Chatbot tabs may be hidden in certain platform contexts.

The bot joins the server but does not answer a user’s command
Check whether the command depends on Twitch identity and, if so, whether that user completed !linkdiscord and the Twitch whisper step. Also ask the bot owner to verify that the command is enabled or configured for Discord.
The bot disappears from chat after you close the app
The desktop Chatbot must remain open and connected to stay in chat. Reopen it and restore its connections.

You use Linux or Mac
Streamlabs says desktop Chatbot is Windows-only and points Linux and Mac users to Cloudbot. Because Cloudbot is a separate product, check its guide for the particular functions you need rather than assuming the desktop Discord workflow carries over.

- Check that you entered the correct application Client ID in Connections → Discord Bot.
- Confirm that the bot was authorized to join the intended Discord server.
- Verify that the bot token was copied into the token field and has not been exposed or replaced.
- Check the channel name, omit its leading
#, and click Connect.
