Use a documented native connector if available; otherwise check for a documented integration partner, then consider a custom API or controlled export only where the vendors support that route. There is no universal setup sequence or guarantee that a construction accounting system connects directly to every forecasting tool.
Start with the exact product pair
Write down the accounting or ERP product and edition, the forecasting tool, each system’s deployment type, and your operating region. Ask both vendors whether that exact combination is supported, which versions and data objects it covers, and who owns support for the connection.

For example, Procore’s supported ERP integrations FAQ lists connections for products including Trimble Spectrum and Vista, QuickBooks Desktop and Online, Sage 300 CRE, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Acumatica, MRI Platform X, Sage 100 Contractor, CMiC, Workday, Xero, and Yardi Voyager. Those are Procore ERP integrations; the list does not establish that each accounting product connects directly to every independent forecasting tool. Confirm the full path from accounting data to the tool that will produce the forecast.

Native connector
Prefer a native connector when both vendors document support for your exact products and the data you need. Confirm supported records, direction of transfer, refresh schedule, prerequisites, limitations, and how product upgrades affect compatibility.
#1 Best Overall
Documented integration partner
If there is no suitable native connector, ask whether either vendor names an integration partner for this product pair. Establish who handles implementation, sync failures, updates, and customer support. Procore describes both accounting integrations and partner-built integrations, but this does not verify a particular forecasting product’s compatibility. See Procore’s integrations information and confirm details with the vendors.
Custom API or controlled export
Consider a custom API connection only after the vendors confirm that the required endpoints, data access, and permitted use are supported for your configuration. Procore describes an open API commitment, but that alone does not guarantee a particular endpoint, integration, or data object. A controlled export and import may be an option if both tools document compatible formats and the process can be governed. In either case, agree who maintains the connection and how errors are detected and corrected.

Decide what the forecast needs
Do not assume that transferring general-ledger totals is enough for a useful construction cash forecast. Specify the records and fields the forecasting tool needs, then have the vendors confirm which are available and in what direction they flow. The following is a planning checklist, not a claim that every connector transfers every item:
- Project identifiers and status.
- Budgets, commitments, and actual costs.
- Receivables, payables, expected payment dates, and relevant counterparties.
- Cost codes, accounts, and the dates needed to time-phase forecast activity.
Construction forecasts may also need work-in-hand, expected cash lags, nonproject income and expenses, and assumptions that change as project conditions shift. Viewpoint’s 2021 guide, Cash Flow Forecasting in the Construction Industry, discusses these planning elements. It is a guide to forecasting concepts, not a compatibility list for current software products.

Assign ownership and map fields
For each field, decide which system is authoritative and whether the forecast tool may edit or only consume it. Map project codes, cost codes, accounts, counterparties, and dates using the vendors’ documentation. Resolve code differences deliberately rather than allowing the connector or an import process to silently group unrelated activity.
Also document refresh cadence and the people responsible for reviewing failed syncs and exceptions. Procore says its accounting integrations can make accounting information available to project teams for budgeting and forecasting; that does not prescribe a universal reconciliation procedure. Set one that fits your close and forecasting cycles.

Test before relying on the connection
- Confirm the data path. Verify each link from the accounting system through any integration layer to the forecasting tool, including which vendor or partner supports each part.
- Map the records. Configure project, cost-code, account, counterparty, and date mappings as documented for your products.
- Test a representative project. Use an active project with known accounting actuals and expected cash timing. Check that its identifiers, amounts, and dates arrive in the intended places.
- Test a changed assumption. Change an expected cash date or another forecast assumption and confirm how the update appears, where it is made, and whether it affects accounting records.
- Reconcile results. Compare imported values and forecast outputs with accounting records and agreed timing assumptions. Resolve discrepancies before treating the forecast as dependable.
- Set the operating routine. Record refresh timing, exception ownership, reconciliation steps, and how mappings and forecast assumptions will be revisited when project conditions change.
This is a prudent verification workflow, not a vendor-prescribed click-by-click procedure. The exact screens and tests depend on the products and configuration.

Compare viable options
If more than one route is available, compare the things that determine whether it will support a reliable project cash forecast:
Best Value
- Whether it is native, partner-built, or custom, and who owns ongoing support.
- Which data objects transfer and in which direction.
- Refresh timing and whether it fits the forecasting cycle.
- Support for project, cost-code, account, and date mappings.
- How users see sync exceptions, reconcile totals, and retain an audit trail.
- Whether the forecasting workflow can represent expected cash dates, cash lags, time-phased project costs, and nonproject cash activity.
Verify capabilities against the current documentation for your exact products, deployment, and region. Connector lists and functions can change, and a connection advertised between a construction platform and an accounting system does not by itself establish a connection to a separate cash-flow forecasting tool.
