How to Connect Beats to Bluetooth (iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows)

Pairing Beats is the same idea everywhere, but discovery mode differs by model. Here are the buttons, the steps for each device, and what to try when it fails.

To connect Beats over Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth on at the host device, put the Beats into discovery mode, then pick the Beats from the host’s Bluetooth device list. The one step that changes is discovery mode, because each Beats model uses a different button. Find your model below, then follow the steps for your phone or computer.

Step 1: Put your Beats into discovery mode

Apple lists different controls by model, so don’t assume every Beats product uses the same button. Flashing lights or a repeating tone show the Beats are ready to pair. Apple’s guide covers more models than the ones below, so check your exact model in Apple’s Pair Beats guide if it isn’t listed.

Beats model How to enter discovery mode
Beats Fit Pro, Beats Studio Buds +, Powerbeats Fit, Powerbeats Pro 2 Put the earbuds in the case, leave the case open, and hold the system button.
Beats Flex Hold the power button on the right control module.
Beats Solo 4 Hold the power button on the right earcup.
Beats Solo Buds With the earbuds in the open case, hold the button above the “b” logo on either earbud until a tone repeats.
Beats Studio Pro Hold the system button on the right earcup.
Beats Pill Hold the power button until a tone repeats.

Step 2: Pair with your device

iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
  2. For earbuds, open the case with the earbuds inside. For Beats Flex, turn them on. For headphones or a speaker, turn the product on.
  3. Hold the Beats near the iPhone or iPad and follow the setup animation.
  4. If no animation appears, put the Beats into discovery mode (table above) and select them in Bluetooth settings.

Apple recommends the latest iOS or iPadOS. A Wi-Fi or mobile data connection during pairing may be needed for Find My features (Apple).

Android

  1. Turn Bluetooth on in Settings > Connections (the label can vary by manufacturer).
  2. Put your Beats into discovery mode and hold them near the phone. Supported Beats may use Fast Pair.
  3. Follow the setup animation. If it doesn’t appear, pair manually in Android’s Bluetooth settings, or use the Connect Your Beats flow in the Beats app.

The Beats app for Android can also help you manage your Beats afterward.

  3. Select the Beats in the device list and click Connect.

Windows PC or another Bluetooth device

Apple names a Windows PC as an example of another Bluetooth-enabled device. Turn on the Beats and enter discovery mode, then open the host’s own Bluetooth pairing screen and select the Beats from its list. Menu names differ by device and system version, so use the host’s Bluetooth settings.

If your Beats won’t connect

Work through these in order, per Apple’s troubleshooting article (published February 27, 2024).

  1. Check range and interference. Keep the Beats and host within 30 feet of each other, away from other Bluetooth devices, microwaves, wireless routers and other electronics.
  2. Check power. Make sure both devices are charged and turned on.
  3. Check sound settings. Select the Beats as the output, and where needed the input or recording device. On a PC, use its sound settings; on Apple devices, use Bluetooth or Sound settings.
  4. Forget and re-pair. Disconnect or forget the Beats on the host, then pair again. Apple gives forget steps for iOS and Mac.
  5. Reset the Beats. Only if the above fails. Reset steps differ by model, so use Apple’s directions for your exact product, then pair again.

Using Beats with more than one device

After setup, Beats may pair automatically with other Apple devices signed into the same Apple Account, or Android devices signed into the same Google Account. Behavior isn’t identical across platforms, so a device on a different account, or a Windows PC, still needs its own manual pairing.
