To connect an app to Gemini, open Connected Apps in Gemini settings, choose an app available to your account, and turn it on. To direct a prompt to that app, type @, select the app, and ask your question. The list and exact settings path can differ by account, device, location, language, and Gemini surface.
Where to find Gemini Connected Apps settings
In Gemini on the web, open the settings and help area and select Connected Apps. In the mobile app, open the menu or profile area and look for Connected Apps; depending on the version, it may appear under Personal Intelligence. Google’s labels and navigation can change, so use the settings navigation in the app you are using.

Connected Apps lists what is available to the signed-in account on that Gemini surface. Open an app’s details or Learn more before relying on a particular task: Google describes supported and unsupported actions there and may provide example prompts. See Google’s How to use Connected Apps in Gemini.
Connect an app and use it in a prompt
- In Gemini settings, open Connected Apps.
- Select an app that appears in the list and switch it on. Complete any authorization or permission prompts shown on screen.
- Start a new conversation and ask Gemini to use the app. To target it explicitly, type
@, select the app from the suggestions, and then write your request. - Check the app’s details for supported actions and examples. Some connections can work automatically for relevant requests; for others, naming the app or using
@AppNamehelps direct Gemini. Google says a connection or permission prompt may appear when you select an eligible app that is not connected.
For follow-up prompts in the same conversation, you may not need to repeat the instruction to use the app. Exact behavior depends on the connection and task. Google’s guidance is in How to use Connected Apps in Gemini.

Disconnect an app or change its access
Return to Connected Apps and switch the app off. Google states: “You can disconnect or connect apps in your Connected Apps settings anytime.” This controls access through that connection; it does not necessarily prevent Gemini from using public information about a related Google service. Google distinguishes public information Gemini may use from Search or YouTube from personal information and content in connected services, which it says is not accessed without permission. For more, see Google’s Connected Apps guidance and its data-handling explanation.
What Gemini’s Google Workspace connection can do
The Google Workspace app can help Gemini find and summarize information in Gmail, Docs, and Drive, interact with Tasks and Keep, and create or manage Calendar events. It has important limits: Google says it cannot access comments or images in Gmail or Docs, pictures and videos in Drive, or manage Drive folders and move content. For work and school accounts, consult Google’s Workspace app requirements and limitations.

Requirements for work or school accounts
A Workspace connection may depend on a qualifying Workspace edition, Keep Activity being on, and the administrator enabling app connections. Sign in to Gemini with the same account you use for Workspace. Gmail Smart features settings may also be a prerequisite for the Workspace connection. If an option is missing, ask your administrator whether the edition and connection settings are supported.

Why an app may be missing or unavailable
Gemini app availability is account- and surface-specific. Google’s current app availability information accounts for factors including location, language, device, account type, age requirements, subscriptions where relevant, and supported Gemini modes such as chat, Live, or Spark. A connection visible to another person—or on another device—may not be available to you. Check your own list and the app’s details in Connected Apps and Google’s app availability information.
- The app is not listed: It may not be eligible for your account, country, language, device, or Gemini mode.
- The switch is unavailable or connection fails: Check for an authorization prompt, account restrictions, or—in a work or school account—administrator controls and edition requirements.
- Gemini does not perform the action you expect: Review the app’s details for supported actions. An integration does not imply access to every feature or item in that service.
Connect a custom app with MCP
For a personal or custom app not covered by the built-in list, Google documents an advanced route using a server that implements the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It requires an MCP server URL and is subject to eligibility limits, including account, age, location, and Keep Activity conditions. It is not a universal way to connect any app.
