PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchYou can connect an Xbox One controller to a Windows PC with a USB cable, Bluetooth if that controller supports it, or an Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows. For Bluetooth, put the controller in pairing mode and add it from Windows Settings; if it does not appear, check that the controller supports Bluetooth or use USB or the adapter.
Choose a connection method
| Method | What you need | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| USB cable | A data-capable cable that fits the controller’s port | You want a wired connection or Bluetooth is unavailable |
| Bluetooth | A PC with Bluetooth and a controller revision that supports Bluetooth | You want a wireless connection without a separate adapter |
| Xbox Wireless Adapter | An Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows | You want the Xbox Wireless route or Bluetooth pairing is not an option |
Microsoft lists USB, Bluetooth, and the Xbox Wireless Adapter as connection options. The available setup guidance does not establish a numerical latency, range, or reliability advantage for one method over another, so choose based on the hardware you have and whether you want a cable.

Connect with a USB cable
- Check the controller’s port and choose a data-capable USB cable with a matching connector.
- Connect the cable to the controller and a USB port on the PC.
A Microsoft product sheet for a legacy Xbox One controller documents Micro-USB, but that should not be treated as a universal connector specification for every controller revision. Inspect your controller before buying a cable.
Pair over Bluetooth
Bluetooth pairing only works if the particular controller revision supports Bluetooth. Windows 11 and Windows 10 use different Settings paths.

Use the Xbox Wireless Adapter
If you want to connect wirelessly without Bluetooth, connect an Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows to the PC, then follow the current pairing instructions from Xbox Support. The detailed adapter flow can change, so use the instructions for your adapter rather than relying on generic button-by-button steps.

The controller does not appear in Windows
- Check whether your specific controller supports Bluetooth; not every Xbox One controller revision does.
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the PC and that the controller’s Xbox button is flashing after you hold the Pair button.
- Retry from the correct Windows 10 or Windows 11 Add device menu.
- If it still does not appear, connect by USB or use an Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.
You are unsure which cable fits
Inspect the controller port before purchasing. The documented Micro-USB cable specification applies to a legacy product, not necessarily to every controller. Choose a data-capable cable, not one intended only for charging.
