To play iPhone audio through a soundbar, use Bluetooth if the bar supports Bluetooth audio, or AirPlay if it supports AirPlay. For Bluetooth, put the soundbar in pairing mode, then choose it under Settings > Bluetooth on your iPhone. For AirPlay, connect both devices to the same network, start audio, open Control Center, tap the AirPlay control in the playback panel, and select the soundbar. A wired connection may work with a compatible HDMI setup, but the iPhone connector and every device’s inputs must match.
Which connection should you use?
Start by checking the soundbar’s manual or specifications for the exact model. Bluetooth and AirPlay are not universal soundbar features, and a wired route depends on the inputs in your particular setup.

How do you connect an iPhone to a Bluetooth soundbar?
- Set the soundbar to Bluetooth. Select its Bluetooth input, then activate pairing or discovery mode using the control specified in its manual. Button names and sequences differ by model.
- Pair from the iPhone. Open Settings > Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth on if needed, and tap the soundbar when it appears in the device list. Apple’s Bluetooth accessory instructions explain this pairing flow. If the soundbar asks for a PIN or passcode, use the instructions for that model rather than guessing.
- Route audio to the soundbar. Start playback on the iPhone. If sound still comes from the phone, open the playback destination control in Control Center or on the Lock Screen and select the soundbar. Apple describes these Bluetooth audio playback controls.
If the iPhone moves out of Bluetooth range, Apple says playback returns to the iPhone. Wireless performance can also be affected by accessory placement or interference; Apple suggests repositioning the iPhone and accessory if the connection is unreliable. See its Bluetooth connection guidance.

How do you use AirPlay with a soundbar?
- Confirm that the exact soundbar model supports AirPlay. Do not assume that a brand’s other models have the same feature.
- Connect the iPhone and soundbar to the same network.
- Start audio on the iPhone, open Control Center, tap AirPlay in the media playback controls, and choose the soundbar. A supported app may also offer an AirPlay control.
Apple’s AirPlay audio instructions describe this route and the same-network requirement. If the soundbar does not appear, first check network membership and the model’s AirPlay support. As one model-specific example—not a general rule—Samsung’s HW-Q910C specification sheet lists AirPlay 2 support and an iOS 11.4-or-later requirement.

Can you connect an iPhone to a soundbar with a cable?
Sometimes, but there is no universal direct iPhone-to-soundbar cable arrangement. A compatible Digital AV adapter can send audio over HDMI, but the iPhone connector, adapter, and soundbar or other devices in the chain must support a workable route. Check the manuals for the iPhone, soundbar, and any TV or receiver before buying an adapter.
Apple’s Digital AV adapter guidance says the adapter must match the device connector, such as USB-C, Lightning, or 30-pin on supported devices. Apple identifies HDMI Digital AV adapters as the relevant adapter type for audio; VGA does not carry audio. Its guidance also notes a USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter for FaceTime and other telephony applications over HDMI audio output. These details do not establish that every adapter will work with every soundbar or system.

Why is the soundbar not showing up or playing sound?
- It does not appear in Bluetooth: Check that the soundbar is powered on, set to its Bluetooth input, and in discovery mode. Then check the iPhone’s Bluetooth device list. If the soundbar was paired before, select it as the playback destination.
- It does not appear in AirPlay: Verify the exact model supports AirPlay and both devices are on the same network for the Control Center route.
- The iPhone is connected but sound comes from the phone: Choose the soundbar in the Lock Screen or Control Center playback destination control.
- A PIN is requested or the controls differ: Follow the soundbar’s model-specific manual; pairing steps and passcodes are not the same for every bar.
- The wireless connection is unstable: Try repositioning the phone and soundbar to reduce interference, then consult Apple’s Bluetooth connection guidance.
- A cable setup produces no audio: Check that the adapter matches the iPhone connector, that it is an HDMI Digital AV adapter rather than VGA, and that the soundbar/TV/receiver inputs and routing support the chosen connection.
