To use a Wii Remote in Dolphin Emulator, connect it from Dolphin’s controller settings—not from Windows’ Bluetooth pairing screen. Choose Real Wii Remote for the intended controller slot, select Refresh, then press 1 + 2 on the Remote together. For a -TR model, press its Sync button instead.
What you need before connecting
- A Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus.
- Bluetooth available on the PC. Dolphin notes that most desktop PCs need a USB or PCIe Bluetooth adapter if Bluetooth is not built in. No particular adapter model is verified here.
- Dolphin Emulator, with the intended Wii Remote slot available.
These steps describe Dolphin’s Real Wii Remote workflow. Pairing a Remote as a generic Windows input device for other software is a different task; the available instructions do not establish one universal Windows 10 or Windows 11 pairing procedure.

Connect the Wii Remote in Dolphin
- Open Dolphin and go to Controller Settings.
- For the Wii Remote slot you want to use, select Real Wii Remote. Check that another Remote has not already claimed that slot.
- Select Refresh in the Wii Remote controls to start scanning.
- While Dolphin is scanning, press 1 + 2 on the Remote at the same time. On a -TR Remote, press its Sync button instead.
- Keep a game running or the configuration window open during the connection attempt. Dolphin’s Continuous Scanning option can allow later connections without reopening the Wii Remote window.
If the Remote disconnects after sitting idle, reconnect by pressing a button on it or choosing Tools → Connect Wii Remotes in Dolphin. Dolphin’s controller guide describes this Real Wii Remote workflow.

If Dolphin does not find the Remote
- Check Bluetooth availability. A desktop without built-in Bluetooth may need a USB or PCIe adapter.
- Check the Dolphin slot. It must be set to Real Wii Remote, and no other Remote should be using it.
- Start scanning before pressing the buttons. Select Refresh, then repeat the 1 + 2 combination—or press Sync on a -TR model—while Dolphin scans.
- Switch off nearby Wii or Wii U consoles temporarily. Dolphin advises turning them off during an unsuccessful connection attempt.
- Do not complete generic pairing in the operating system. If Windows prompts for a PIN or its Bluetooth setup behaves oddly, cancel that route and initiate the connection from Dolphin’s Controller Settings instead.
Real Wii Remote mode and Bluetooth Passthrough compared
Dolphin’s standard Real Wii Remote workflow is the appropriate first try. Passthrough is an advanced alternative that gives Dolphin direct control of a compatible adapter through a LibUSB driver; it is not required for an ordinary connection.

Consider passthrough only if the standard route is not meeting a specific need, such as MotionPlus detection. PC connection is not Wii console synchronization
Nintendo’s console instructions describe syncing a Remote to a Wii: press the Remote’s Sync button under the battery cover until the player LEDs blink, then press the red Sync button on the console; a steady player LED indicates synchronization is complete. Those steps are for a Wii console, not Dolphin. For Dolphin, use the Real Wii Remote slot, select Refresh, and press 1 + 2—or the -TR Remote’s Sync button—while Dolphin scans.
