To connect a Samsung refrigerator to household water, first check the installation instructions for your exact model and water-line kit. The common US setup uses 1/4-inch tubing, but the fittings and connection layout vary. Shut off the supply before working, make the connections without overtightening, restore water and check for leaks, then install the filter and flush the dispenser as your model’s manual directs.
What to check before connecting the water line
- Find your model’s instructions. Use the model number to open its user or installation manual. Samsung says the procedure can vary by equipment and directs users to the water-line kit instructions as well. Samsung’s US water-line guide explains its general setup.
- Locate a cold, drinkable-water supply and shutoff valve. If the refrigerator location has no suitable valve, household plumbing work may be needed. Samsung’s general US guidance describes using a pipe clamp and shutoff valve, but that arrangement is not suitable for every plumbing system. Follow the model instructions and local plumbing requirements; consult a qualified plumber or appliance installer if you are unsure.
- Choose compatible tubing and fittings. Samsung’s common US guidance describes 1/4-inch copper tubing with a compression nut and ferrules, or 1/4-inch plastic tubing with a molded end (bulb) and compression nut. Confirm the kit matches your model and household connection. Some kits include only one compression nut, so check that fittings are available for both ends.
- Plan the route. Keep the connection accessible for inspection and leave enough tubing to position the refrigerator without pulling or kinking the line.
Choose the tubing that fits your setup

Samsung does not establish one tubing material as the best choice for every refrigerator or home. Use the option allowed by your model’s instructions and compatible with the connection you have.

Connect the water line step by step
- Shut off the water supply. Do this before making or changing any connection.
- Prepare the household connection. Use an existing compatible cold-water shutoff valve, or have a suitable valve installed according to the refrigerator instructions and local requirements. Do not assume a pipe-clamp arrangement will fit your plumbing.
- Connect the kit to the shutoff valve. Follow the kit directions and check that the fittings are aligned and seated correctly.
- Attach the line to the refrigerator. For copper tubing, place the compression nut and ferrules as specified by the instructions. For plastic tubing, insert the molded end into the compression fitting. Samsung cautions against plastic tubing without that formed end.
- Tighten the compression nut until seated. Do not overtighten: Samsung warns that overtightening can cause a leak.
- Restore water and inspect every connection. Look for drips or dampness at the valve, fittings and refrigerator inlet. If you find a leak, shut off the supply, inspect the connection and tighten as needed; then restore water and check again.
- Position the refrigerator carefully. Keep the joined tubing straight and unkinked as you move the appliance into place. Samsung’s DRF36C700 installation guide gives this precaution for that model; it is also a useful way to avoid stressing a joined line on other installations.
- Check for leaks again after positioning. Moving the refrigerator can disturb the line, so inspect the connections once it is in its final position.
Install the filter and prepare the dispenser and ice maker
On models with a dispenser, install the water filter if it is not already in place, then flush the system before drinking the water. Samsung’s US instructions say to dispense one gallon; a Samsung Gulf article gives 2–3 gallons instead. Because the published quantities differ, follow the exact amount in your refrigerator’s manual rather than combining the figures. For ice production, Samsung’s US guidance says to allow one to two days and discard the first two buckets of ice. Use your model’s manual for the ice-maker startup procedure and any model-specific timing.

When to get installation help
- Your home needs new plumbing or a shutoff valve. Have the work done by someone qualified to meet local requirements.
- The fittings do not match, or a leak persists. Shut off the supply and check the model and kit instructions before trying another fitting or tightening further. If the connection remains uncertain, contact a qualified installer.
- Water flow is low. Samsung Africa guidance calls for a booster pump below 20 psi, but this is regional advice, not a universal requirement for every model or market. Check your model manual or ask a qualified installer to assess the supply.
- You are considering reusing an old hose. Samsung Caribbean guidance advises using new hoses supplied with the appliance and recommends qualified technician installation.
