There is no universal cable for connecting a micro hi-fi system. Check the audio-output port on your TV, phone, or computer and match it to an audio-input port on the stereo. Then select that input on the hi-fi and, when needed, adjust the source device’s audio-output settings.

Check the ports before choosing a connection

Look for an audio output on the source device and an audio input on the hi-fi. Do not connect one output to another output. Common options include a 3.5 mm headphone or stereo output, RCA stereo, optical digital audio, HDMI ARC, and Bluetooth, but the available connections vary by model.

Match the connection at both ends. A 3.5 mm-to-RCA cable works only when the source has an analog stereo output and the hi-fi has an RCA stereo input. Optical and HDMI ARC likewise require compatible ports on both devices.

Connect a TV to the micro hi-fi

Analog audio: headphone or stereo output to RCA AUX

If the TV has a 3.5 mm headphone or stereo output and the hi-fi has RCA AUX inputs, connect them with a 3.5 mm stereo-to-RCA cable. If both devices have matching stereo RCA connections, use an RCA stereo cable instead. Teufel describes analog TV sound connections for several KOMBO models, while Philips and Sony also cover analog audio-system connections in their support guidance: Teufel KOMBO TV connection, Philips TV audio-system connection, and Sony TV audio-system connection.

Select AUX or the corresponding analog input on the hi-fi. Some TVs require you to enable or select the headphone output; check the TV manual if sound does not come through.

Optical digital audio

If the TV has an optical digital audio output and the stereo has an optical input, connect them with a TOSLINK cable and select the optical input on the hi-fi. This path is possible only when both devices have the matching ports. If the stereo does not decode the TV’s chosen format, set the TV’s digital audio output to PCM or stereo if that option is available. Fluance specifies PCM/stereo for the Fi70 optical connection in its guidance: Fluance Fi70 TV connection.

HDMI ARC

Use HDMI ARC only if both the TV and the hi-fi explicitly support ARC. Connect the ARC-labeled ports with a high-speed HDMI cable, then check each device’s audio settings and manual for any required configuration. ARC is model-specific: Teufel lists it for the KOMBO 62 Mk2, not as a feature shared by every KOMBO system. See Teufel’s KOMBO connection guidance.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth can connect a TV to the hi-fi only when both devices support Bluetooth audio in the required roles. Put the stereo into its Bluetooth receiving or pairing mode and follow the model instructions for pairing the TV. Bluetooth availability on the TV alone does not establish that the stereo can receive its audio.

Connect a phone or computer

Bluetooth audio

If the hi-fi supports Bluetooth audio reception, select its Bluetooth input and pair the phone or computer according to the stereo’s instructions. Fluance lists phones, tablets, and PCs or laptops as Bluetooth sources for the Fi70: Fluance Fi70 connection guidance.

Wired analog audio

If the phone or computer has a headphone output and the stereo has a compatible AUX input, use a cable with the right connector at each end—for example, 3.5 mm stereo-to-RCA for a headphone output feeding RCA AUX. Many current phones and computers do not have an analog headphone jack. In that case, an audio adapter may be needed, and it must provide a compatible analog output. Check the device and adapter specifications rather than assuming any USB adapter carries audio.

Choose the right connection for your setup

  • Use the ports you already have: compare the source’s audio outputs with the hi-fi’s audio inputs before buying a cable.
  • Check for adapters: a source without the required analog jack may need an adapter that provides the right audio output.
  • Account for settings: optical may require PCM/stereo, and a TV’s headphone output may need to be enabled.
  • Choose wired or wireless for convenience: the cited manufacturer guidance does not establish a universal sound-quality ranking across different devices and connections.

Troubleshoot missing sound

  1. Confirm the direction: the source must provide audio out and the hi-fi must accept audio in.
  2. Check the match: use analog with a compatible analog input, optical output with optical input, and ARC only with ARC support at both ends.
  3. Select the stereo input: choose AUX, optical, ARC, or Bluetooth as appropriate.
  4. Check the output format: for optical, try PCM or stereo on the TV if the hi-fi does not decode the selected format.
  5. Check source output settings and level: enable the TV’s headphone output if required, and check the output volume on an analog source.
  6. Verify USB capability: consult the exact model’s manual; do not assume the port carries audio.
