This guide is for apps hosted on GoDaddy Node.js Hosting—not every Node.js app whose domain happens to be registered with GoDaddy. The basic sequence is: prepare and deploy the app, attach a GoDaddy web hosting subscription, publish it, connect a domain you own, and let DNS verification and TLS provisioning complete. GoDaddy says certificates are provisioned automatically for Node.js Hosting; other hosting products and providers may require different steps.
Before you begin: confirm the hosting provider
GoDaddy’s automatic TLS statement applies specifically to its Node.js Hosting product. If your app runs on another provider, GoDaddy may only be the domain registrar or DNS provider: follow the app host’s instructions for connecting a custom domain and issuing HTTPS certificates. The sources here do not establish a universal DNS-record recipe for other hosts.
- A GoDaddy Node.js Hosting app that you can deploy and publish.
- A GoDaddy web hosting subscription to attach to the app.
- A domain you own. If its DNS is hosted outside GoDaddy, access to that DNS provider’s settings.
Prepare the Node.js app for GoDaddy Hosting
GoDaddy’s Node.js Hosting help guide specifies these app requirements; they are not universal requirements for every Node.js platform. Put a package.json file at the project root, define a working production start script, and have the app listen on the PORT environment variable. Declare runtime dependencies in the package file and keep secrets in environment variables rather than hard-coding them. GoDaddy says the platform runs npm install and then npm start.
For a ZIP upload, GoDaddy specifies a maximum archive size of 100 MB and says not to include node_modules. See GoDaddy’s Node.js Hosting upload requirements for the current product instructions.

Deploy, attach a hosting subscription, and publish
- Upload the app and deploy it. Follow GoDaddy’s Node.js app deployment workflow. The workflow has preview and publish environments; a preview URL is not proof that the production app is live.
- Check deployment status. Confirm the app and relevant environment report a successful, running status. GoDaddy’s API operations for creating an app, uploading code, and publishing are asynchronous; API users should poll the returned operation until it succeeds or fails.
- Attach a GoDaddy web hosting subscription. GoDaddy’s deployment guide identifies this as a required step before a Node.js app can go live. Check your account for an eligible subscription rather than relying on a price or plan assumption.
- Publish the app. Confirm the publish environment is up and use its production URL for checks. GoDaddy documents app status and publish URLs separately, so do not treat a working preview as a published deployment.
Connect your custom domain
Attach the domain only after deployment, and use a domain you own. GoDaddy’s domain workflow initiates DNS verification when the domain is attached. The DNS work depends on where the domain’s DNS is hosted:

Wait for domain verification, then check HTTPS
Domain attachment and DNS verification are asynchronous. GoDaddy’s API reference says an attachment request returns 202 Accepted; its documentation says DNS propagation may take a few minutes, but does not give a fixed maximum. Wait for DNS to resolve and check the domain’s verification state. API users can poll the domain record until the status is ACTIVE or FAILED, as described in the Attach a domain API reference.
GoDaddy says TLS certificates are provisioned automatically for Node.js Hosting. After the domain is connected and provisioning has completed, open the site with https:// and confirm the browser reports a valid secure connection. The documentation does not specify an exact certificate-provisioning time. This automatic-certificate guidance is product-specific; it should not be assumed for other GoDaddy hosting products or external hosts. See GoDaddy’s Node.js Hosting help guide.

Troubleshoot a domain or HTTPS issue
The app is not live
- Check that publishing completed successfully, the publish environment is up, and a web hosting subscription is attached.
- Test the production publish URL, not just the preview URL.
The custom domain does not resolve
- Confirm that you own the domain and attached it to the intended app.
- Check which provider hosts its authoritative DNS. If DNS is external, make the routing change there.
- Use the target shown by GoDaddy for this app rather than guessing an A or CNAME record.
Verification remains pending
Allow DNS time to resolve, then check the domain record or status again. GoDaddy says propagation can take a few minutes, but its reviewed Node.js Hosting instructions do not promise a fixed maximum.
HTTPS is not available
First confirm that the app is on GoDaddy Node.js Hosting and that the domain is connected and verified. GoDaddy’s automatic TLS statement is scoped to that product. If HTTPS remains unavailable, consult current support guidance for your account and product; buying a certificate is not the default remedy established by these instructions.

Optional: API attachment errors
This applies only if you attach the domain through GoDaddy’s API rather than its dashboard. The request requires a token with the hosting.domain:write scope, a deployed app, and a domain you own. GoDaddy documents these responses:
