Configure the Conan Exiles purge from the server’s ServerSettings.ini file or the in-game Server Settings panel. The essential controls are EnablePurge (the master on/off switch), RestrictPurgeTime (whether purges are limited to scheduled windows), and the minimum-online-players setting (whether an unoccupied clan base may be selected). Save a backup before changing anything, because key names and trigger behavior differ between game builds.

What the purge settings control
A purge is a server event in which hostile waves attack eligible clan locations. The server reads purge-related values from ServerSettings.ini. Many hosting dashboards expose a subset of those values through a graphical settings page; the dashboard normally writes the same configuration file for you. If a panel and the file show different values, treat the file that the server actually loads as authoritative and verify after the next restart or configuration reload.

EnablePurge |
Master switch for purge events | True enables purges; False, or clearing the corresponding panel checkbox, disables them entirely. |
RestrictPurgeTime |
Whether purges may run only during configured windows | When enabled, the weekday and weekend start/end entries determine the allowed periods. |
PurgeTimeWeekday and PurgeTimeWeekend start/end entries |
Beginning and ending times for the restricted windows | The exact start/end key spelling can vary by build or panel. A value of 0000 means midnight in the hosting guide that documents these entries. |
MinimumNumberOfOnlinePlayers or MinPurgeOnlinePlayers |
Minimum number of clan members who must be online for that clan to be exposed to a purge | 0 allows an offline purge. A value of 1 or more blocks a purge against a clan with no online member. The two names reflect different guides and game generations; use the name already present in your file. |
| Purge preparation-window setting | How much warning players receive before the attack wave | This is separate from the attack duration. The exact key name was not consistent in the available documentation, so do not add an unverified key; use the panel label or an existing entry in your file. |
Do not assume that every purge option shown in an old tutorial still works. Current builds may calculate eligibility from the treasure value in a clan’s coffer, while older references describe a meter and difficulty keys. Confirm behavior in the running server before basing a community schedule on legacy values.
Prepare safely before changing the configuration
- Identify the configuration owner. If you rent a server, determine whether the provider’s control panel regenerates
ServerSettings.ini. Editing the file while the panel is set to overwrite it can make your changes disappear. - Stop or suspend writes using your host’s normal procedure. Do not edit a file while another save operation is actively rewriting it. The exact control is host-specific.
- Make a dated backup. Copy the current
ServerSettings.inibefore touching a value. Keep the original outside any automated “restore defaults” workflow so you can compare the effective settings later. - Record your build and platform. The names of online-player and legacy trigger settings are not consistent across all versions. Write down the game build, platform, and whether the server is dedicated or panel-managed.
- Change one group at a time. Start with the master switch, then timing, then online-player eligibility. This makes it possible to identify which change caused an unexpected result.
Configure the purge in the in-game Server Settings panel
The panel is the simplest option when you have administrator access and your server exposes the relevant fields. Labels and grouping vary, so use the search box or filter for “purge” if the panel provides one.

- Open the server’s Server Settings screen while logged in with the permissions required to alter server rules.
- Find the purge section and enable the purge option. This is the panel equivalent of
EnablePurge=True. Clear the option if you want to stop all purge events. - Decide whether attacks should be allowed at any time or only in a schedule. Enable the setting corresponding to
RestrictPurgeTimewhen you want a window. - When time restriction is enabled, enter weekday and weekend start and end values. Keep the four values internally consistent: a start later than the end may create an empty or unintended window, depending on the build. Treat
0000as midnight. - Locate the minimum-online-players field. Set it to
0only if you accept attacks on completely unoccupied clan bases. Set it to at least1if at least one clan member must be online before that clan can be selected. - If the panel exposes a preparation or warning-time control, increase it when your players need more time to organize a defense. Do not create a similarly named field manually if the panel does not expose it.
- Save the settings using the panel’s apply control. If the panel reports that a restart or reload is required, follow that prompt; otherwise, verify the values in the file after the server next loads its configuration.
A panel may show friendly labels instead of raw keys. Record the resulting file values after saving, because that gives you the exact spelling your build accepts and prevents confusion between MinimumNumberOfOnlinePlayers and MinPurgeOnlinePlayers.
Edit ServerSettings.ini directly
Direct editing is useful when a panel hides a setting or writes an incomplete configuration. Work on the copy that the server actually loads, and preserve the file’s existing formatting.
- Open the backed-up
ServerSettings.iniin a plain-text editor. - Search for
EnablePurge. Change only its value toTrueorFalse. If the key is absent, use the in-game panel or your host’s documented method rather than guessing which configuration section a new key belongs in. - Search for
RestrictPurgeTime. Set it toTruefor scheduled windows orFalsefor unrestricted timing. - With restriction enabled, find the existing weekday and weekend start/end entries associated with
PurgeTimeWeekdayandPurgeTimeWeekend. Edit the values already present in your file. Because the complete suffixes differ between builds, copying a key from an unrelated tutorial can silently do nothing. - Search for either
MinimumNumberOfOnlinePlayersorMinPurgeOnlinePlayers. Edit the key that your file uses; do not set both unless your build’s own documentation explicitly says that both are read. Use0for offline purges or1(or a higher number) to require an online clan member. - Save the file without changing its extension or encoding. Use the host’s normal reload or restart control, then reopen the file to confirm that your values were not overwritten.
Two minimal examples illustrate the stable controls:
EnablePurge=True
RestrictPurgeTime=True
The minimum-online line must use the key already recognized by your server:

MinimumNumberOfOnlinePlayers=0
or, on a build that uses the alternate spelling:
MinPurgeOnlinePlayers=0
These snippets are not a complete file. Do not delete unrelated settings, and do not paste both alternative names merely to “cover” different versions.
Allowing or preventing offline purges
The minimum-online-player value is the practical switch for unattended bases. With a value of 0, the server may select a clan even when no member is connected. With 1 or more, a clan with zero online members is excluded. This setting concerns the clan’s online presence, not the total number of players on the server.

An always-available survival server may choose 0 so the purge system continues to operate while players are away. Tell players clearly that logging out does not protect a base. A longer preparation warning can make this policy less punishing, provided your build exposes such a control.
Use 1 or higher to protect unattended bases
Set the value to at least 1 when your community wants purges to be defendable only by an online clan member. This does not disable purges globally; it changes which clans can be selected at the moment the server evaluates eligibility.

Verify the key name before testing
One older player forum post uses MinPurgeOnlinePlayers, while other guides use MinimumNumberOfOnlinePlayers. The forum entry may describe an older build. If changing one name has no effect, restore your backup, inspect the file generated by the current panel, and test the spelling that appears there rather than adding multiple competing keys.
Restricting purge times to predictable windows
RestrictPurgeTime is the master switch for time windows. When it is off, the server is not limited to the weekday/weekend schedule. When it is on, the associated weekday and weekend start/end values define when a purge may begin.
Build a schedule players can understand
- Choose a weekday window and a weekend window that match your community’s actual active hours.
- Use the same time basis throughout. Hosting panels may display a server-local time even when players live elsewhere; publish the server’s time zone with the schedule.
- Enter midnight as
0000when the field accepts the four-digit format documented by the hosting guide. - Keep the end time after the start time unless your build explicitly documents overnight windows. Do not assume that a window crossing midnight is interpreted consistently.
Check the effective values
After saving, reopen the panel or file and confirm that the four schedule values remain present. If the panel changes the formatting, use the panel’s representation as the reference for subsequent edits. A schedule that looks correct in the interface but is missing from the file may be a panel-only draft that was never applied.
Give clans time to prepare
The preparation period before the attack wave is distinct from both the allowed time window and the wave itself. Community guidance commonly recommends increasing the warning so clan members can organize, repair defenses, and move resources. However, the exact configuration key was not consistently identified in the available material.

Use a preparation-time control only when it is visible in your current Server Settings panel or already present in your server’s configuration. If neither exposes it, do not invent a key based on a similarly named article. A setting that the executable does not recognize will not create a warning period and may leave you believing players have more notice than they actually do.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Understand current and legacy purge triggers
Older guides describe a purge meter and several related entries, including ClanPurgeTrigger, ClanScoreUpateFrequnency, and PurgeLevel. Their documentation is inconsistent:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Legacy item | How older material describes it | Why caution is required |
|---|---|---|
ClanPurgeTrigger |
A threshold that raises or lowers when a clan becomes eligible. | Community-wiki documentation is low confidence, and newer build guidance says the meter settings may no longer be read. |
ClanScoreUpateFrequnency |
A frequency associated with updating the clan score or meter. | The spelling itself is unusual, and current-build guidance reports that the legacy meter group has no effect. |
PurgeLevel |
A difficulty value in older descriptions. | Reported scales conflict: some material describes 1–6, another says 0 disables and 1 is easiest through 6 hardest, while a newer hosting guide describes 1–10. |
Another current-build description says purge eligibility is triggered by the treasure value in a clan’s coffer and that the three legacy meter settings above do not affect that behavior. Because these accounts conflict, do not promise players that raising a particular meter or choosing a particular difficulty number will change a current server. First inspect the live configuration and run a controlled observation on the exact game build you operate.
Do not add unverified keys
The names PurgeTime and PurgeAfterDays were not found in the checked material. They should not appear in a production configuration merely because a forum post or search result mentions them elsewhere. Unknown keys are especially risky when a hosting panel regenerates the file and removes entries it does not understand.
Best Value
Keep purge rules separate from building decay
Decay determines whether unattended buildings eventually deteriorate or become abandoned; it is not the purge event itself. Changing decay can therefore alter the risk profile of a server even when purge settings are unchanged.
Disable abandonment entirely
AbandonmentDisabled=True turns decay off so buildings never abandon. This can be appropriate for a private world where preservation is more important than clearing inactive claims, but it removes the normal cleanup mechanism.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Lengthen timers without disabling decay
DecayTimeMultiplier scales decay timers. A PvE preset documented by a hosting guide uses 2.0, doubling those timers while leaving decay enabled. Treat that as a preset example, not a universal recommendation; the right value depends on how often your players return.
Recognize alternate decay names
Other guides use BuildingDecayEnabled and DisableBuildingAbandonment for related controls. As with the online-player setting, rely on the names present in your current file or panel. For a public server, leaving decay enabled is generally advised so inactive structures do not permanently occupy the map, but that policy is independent of whether purges are enabled.
Test the configuration without guessing
- Confirm persistence. Apply the change, allow the server to reload its settings, and reopen the file or panel. A value that reverts indicates panel overwrite, a wrong file, or an unsupported key.
- Test the master switch first. With
EnablePurge=False, no purge events should run. RestoreTruebefore testing other behavior. - Test eligibility separately from timing. Decide whether the test clan has an online member and whether the current time falls inside the configured window. Changing both conditions at once makes the result impossible to interpret.
- Record the build and result. Note the exact key spelling, value, date, and observed behavior. This record is more useful than copying a legacy preset whose version is unknown.
- Warn players before production changes. An offline-purge test can destroy unattended structures. Announce the test window and keep a rollback copy of the previous file.
No universal purge frequency or difficulty statistic can be stated from the available documentation. Treat the first observed event on your own server as a validation of that build, not as a promise that every server behaves identically.
Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No purges occur at all. | The master switch is off, or a panel change was never applied. | Confirm EnablePurge=True in the file the server loads, then verify persistence after reload. |
| Purges occur outside the advertised hours. | RestrictPurgeTime is false, or the wrong weekday/weekend entries were edited. |
Check the restriction switch, all four schedule values, the server time zone, and whether the panel rewrote the file. |
| An empty base is attacked despite an online-player rule. | The alternate key name is being used, the value is 0, or the current build does not honor that legacy entry. |
Inspect which spelling the panel writes; test 1 or higher; document the result for your build. |
Changing PurgeLevel has no visible effect. |
The server uses a newer treasure-based trigger and ignores legacy meter settings. | Do not keep raising the value blindly. Verify current-build behavior and remove unsupported legacy edits. |
| Schedule fields vanish after restart. | The hosting panel regenerated the file or the wrong configuration copy was edited. | Change the values through the panel, identify its generated file, and retain a backup of the effective configuration. |
| Players receive less warning than expected. | The preparation-window setting is absent, unsupported, or different from the label used by an old guide. | Use only a control exposed by the current panel or an existing recognized key; do not add an unverified name. |
| Inactive buildings remain forever. | Abandonment has been disabled. | Check AbandonmentDisabled and any build-specific decay controls before changing purge rules. |
Practical configuration patterns
The following patterns describe policy choices rather than guaranteed presets. Apply only the keys your build recognizes.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Quick Recap
| Server policy | Core choices | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Purges off | EnablePurge=False |
Removes purge attacks entirely, so clans never need to defend against this event. |
| Always-on, including offline bases | EnablePurge=True; RestrictPurgeTime=False; minimum-online value 0 |
Most persistent pressure, including while every clan member is logged out. |
| Scheduled, including offline bases | EnablePurge=True; RestrictPurgeTime=True; configured weekday/weekend windows; minimum-online value 0 |
Players know when attacks may begin, but absence does not protect a base. |
| Scheduled and defendable | EnablePurge=True; RestrictPurgeTime=True; configured windows; minimum-online value 1 or higher |
Reduces surprise attacks on empty bases, while still requiring clans to be present during the window. |
| PvE with slower cleanup | Keep the purge policy appropriate to the community; use a decay multiplier such as 2.0 only if you want longer decay timers without disabling decay. |
Structures last longer, so map cleanup also takes longer. |
Final pre-launch checklist
- Back up the working
ServerSettings.ini. - Confirm that
EnablePurgereflects your intended policy. - Decide whether
RestrictPurgeTimeshould be on. - Verify the weekday and weekend start/end entries and the server’s time zone.
- Choose
0for offline eligibility or at least1to require an online clan member. - Use the exact online-player key already recognized by your build.
- Do not rely on legacy meter or difficulty keys until you have confirmed that the current build reads them.
- Do not add undocumented names such as
PurgeTimeorPurgeAfterDays. - Keep decay decisions separate from purge decisions, and verify any abandonment setting.
- Apply the file or panel change, confirm it persists, and communicate the policy before the first live event.
