This setup lets a community owner give moderators selected powers without handing out every administrative command. The most important safeguards are exact permission names, correct AGIDs, and a hierarchy arrangement that prevents lower-level staff from acting on higher-level staff.

What a Path of Titans role controls
A role is a named bundle of server permissions. A player receives the commands listed in that role, plus any access and presentation settings attached to it. Roles are separate from the person who owns the community server: the owner can assign administrator access to other players and establish the server’s own rules. Alderon’s FAQ states: “Yes, Community Server Owners can assign the administrator role to anyone in the server, and set their own rules for their server as well.”
Use roles to divide responsibilities. A moderator might be able to remove disruptive players and move players for an event, while a senior administrator receives ban or promotion authority. Giving every staff member every command makes mistakes and abuse harder to contain.

Role permissions are not necessarily named exactly like the chat command. Most permission tokens match the command name, but exceptions exist. The /bring command, for example, uses the teleport permission. Always check the current command reference before copying a token into the file.
Before editing the server
- Make sure you can stop and start the community server and access its configuration files.
- Record each staff member’s exact Alderon Games ID. A display name is not a substitute for an AGID.
- Decide which commands each role genuinely needs. Start with the smallest useful set and add permissions only after testing.
- Choose a hierarchy plan. Ban, kick, promote, and demote are hierarchy-sensitive, so lower-level staff must not be able to act on higher-level staff.
- Make a backup copy of
Commands.inibefore changing it. Keep the original filename and extension when you save the working copy.
Stop the server before opening or changing the file. Editing while the process is running can cause the server to overwrite your changes or load only part of the configuration. The documented procedure is to stop the server, edit and save the file, then restart it.
Find Commands.ini
The exact location depends on how the server is hosted and which operating system it uses. In a Linux hosting layout, the relevant directory is:

PathOfTitans/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/Open Commands.ini in a plain-text or code editor. Do not use a word processor that may add formatting characters. If your provider exposes a web file manager, stop the server from that panel first, download a backup, edit the file, upload the saved version, and only then start the server.
Create a role section
1. Add the role header
Each role starts with a section header in this form:

The name in a player assignment must match the role header exactly, including capitalization and spaces if you use them. Use short, unambiguous names such as Moderator, EventStaff, or SeniorAdmin.
2. Add one permission per line
Prefix every permission with +Permission= and put one token on each line:
+Permission=kick
+Permission=teleportThese entries grant the commands represented by those permission tokens. Do not add a broad, undocumented permission because it appears convenient; use the exact names supported by the current command reference. A command that appears to have a different name can use another token, as /bring does with teleport.
3. Add optional role settings
Role settings control chat appearance, spectator access, reserved slots, creator mode, and hierarchy. The documented options are:

Leave an option out when you want its default behavior. For colors, include all four components and keep A=255; changing alpha is not supported.

4. Plan hierarchy deliberately
Hierarchy matters when a command targets another administrator. The documented hierarchy-sensitive commands are ban, kick, promote, and demote. Give a senior role a higher hierarchy value than the staff roles it should outrank, and test the arrangement with non-owner accounts. The goal is that a lower role cannot ban, kick, promote, or demote a higher role.
Assign a player to a role
Use the PlayerRoles section
Add a separate section named [PlayerRoles]. Each assignment maps an AGID to a role name:

123-456-789=ModeratorReplace 123-456-789 with the player’s actual AGID and Moderator with the exact role name from a [Role:...] header. Put every assignment on its own line:

456-789-123=SeniorAdminVerify the AGID character by character. A correct role definition will not apply if one digit or hyphen is wrong. A display name can change, while the AGID is the identifier the configuration uses.
Assign or remove roles in-game
An administrator can assign a role without manually adding the mapping by running:

/demote playernameUse the exact in-game player name and role name expected by the command. If you need a repeatable, visible configuration for several staff members, keep the assignments in [PlayerRoles] and make a backup after confirming the server has saved the change.

Complete example configuration
The following example gives a moderator three selected permissions, a green chat color, no spectator, reserved-slot, or creator-mode access, and hierarchy value 1:

123-456-789=ModeratorIn this example, /bring is available because the role has teleport, not because a separate bring permission was added. Replace the sample AGID and adjust the permission list to your own policy. Do not copy a command token unless it appears in the current command reference.
Apply and test the change
- Stop the Path of Titans server completely.
- Open the correct
Commands.iniunder the operating system’s server configuration directory. - Save a backup of the original file.
- Add or edit the
[Role:RoleName]section and its permissions and settings. - Add or update the player mapping under
[PlayerRoles], checking the AGID and role spelling. - Save the file as plain text with the filename
Commands.ini. - Start or restart the server and wait for it to finish loading.
- Join with a non-owner test account assigned to the role.
- Run one command that should work, then run a command that was deliberately not granted. Confirm the first succeeds and the second is denied.
- Test hierarchy-sensitive behavior against accounts representing higher and lower roles before giving the role to real moderators.
The allow-and-deny test is practical safety guidance, not a published vendor test checklist. It catches accidental over-permissioning before staff use the role during a live event.

There is no requirement to create many roles. A small server can start with one moderation role and add a senior role only when responsibilities diverge. The following pattern illustrates how to keep scopes separate; the exact command list must still be checked against the current command reference.

Keep role names stable. Renaming a section without changing every corresponding [PlayerRoles] assignment leaves players mapped to a role name that no longer exists.
Troubleshoot roles that do not work
The change has no effect
- Confirm the server was stopped before editing.
- Check that the edited file is the active server’s
Commands.ini, not a backup or a different instance. - Save the file, verify the filename still ends in
.ini, and restart the server after saving. - If a hosting panel uses separate configuration profiles, make sure the restart uses the profile containing your edited file.
The player receives no role
- Check that the assignment is under the exact
[PlayerRoles]header. - Compare the AGID with the account’s actual Alderon Games ID, including every hyphen and digit.
- Compare the assigned role name with the text after
[Role:. Spelling and capitalization must match. - Make sure the role section appears in the same
Commands.inithat the server loads.
A command is denied
- Confirm the role contains a separate
+Permission=...line for that command. - Check the command reference for exceptions. For example,
/bringrequiresteleport. - Restart after changing the permission; edits are not applied to a running process.
- Test with an account that is actually mapped to the role rather than relying on a display-name assumption.
A moderator can affect an owner or senior administrator
Review the Hierarchy values. Increase the higher role’s value or lower the moderator’s value so the intended seniority is represented. Then retest ban, kick, promote, and demote with separate accounts. Do not infer that a role is safe merely because ordinary commands are restricted; hierarchy-sensitive commands need their own test.
The chat color is wrong
Check the RGB components in the exact format {R=number,G=number,B=number,A=255}. Each RGB number must be between 0 and 255, and alpha must remain 255. If ChatColor is absent, white is the documented default. If another administrator color takes precedence, review OverrideAdminChatColor.
Self-hosted and rented servers
Path of Titans community servers may be self-hosted or rented from supported game-server providers. The role file procedure is the same in principle: stop the instance, edit the active Commands.ini, save, and restart. A rented host may put the LinuxServer or WindowsServer directory behind a control-panel file manager rather than exposing the full filesystem, so use the panel’s configuration-file path and confirm which instance is being restarted.

For a rented option, Godlike.Host’s Path of Titans servers provide a Pterodactyl-based game panel for managing the instance. Not on Alderon Games’ list of Path of Titans server providers (alderongames.com, 11 Oct 2026).
A visual Commands.ini generator is optional and is not required to configure roles. Manual editing gives you a reviewable backup and makes it easier to audit exactly which permissions each role has. If you use any third-party editor, compare its output with the documented section names, permission syntax, and current command reference before deploying it.
