Set rapid trigger on the keys that benefit from quick repeated presses, and choose actuation depth according to how deliberately you want each key to register. Start with a few game-critical keys, test them in-game, and adjust if you get missed inputs or accidental repeats. There is no single best setting for every keyboard, game, or player.
Rapid trigger and actuation do different jobs
Actuation is the point in a key’s travel where a press registers. A shallower actuation point registers with less downward movement; a deeper one requires more travel. Rapid trigger changes when a key resets and can register again as it moves, rather than waiting for a single fixed reset point. The two settings work together, but they are not interchangeable. Which keys to configure depends on the game’s input pattern: repeatedly released movement keys in an FPS, timed note keys in a rhythm game, or keys used for precise repeated presses in another genre. Wooting describes FPS movement as a use case, but its guide is vendor guidance rather than an independently measured performance finding.
Choose keys and settings by game type
FPS and movement-heavy games
Begin with movement keys you press and release repeatedly, such as WASD. Wooting discusses movement, stopping and counter-strafing in Valorant and Counter-Strike, as well as movement techniques in Apex Legends. Its advice supports targeting movement keys rather than automatically applying the most sensitive behavior to every key. Wooting says: “First Person Shooter (FPS) games benefit from the instant key response to make rapid or unique movements and faster shooting accuracy.” Treat that as the manufacturer’s description, not a measured guarantee.

Razer gives one manufacturer example for an FPS profile: 1.2 mm actuation and 0.3 mm sensitivity. Those are profile settings, not universal recommendations or research statistics. Your keyboard’s controls and your ability to avoid unintended inputs matter; consult Razer’s Rapid Trigger documentation for feature details.
Rhythm games
For rhythm games such as osu!, focus on the keys used for notes, where repeated presses and timing matter. Adjust them until presses register reliably without unwanted repeats. The cited Wooting guidance identifies rhythm games as a use case but does not establish a universal sensitivity value or demonstrate measured accuracy gains.

Fighting games
Wooting identifies parries, combos and timing-sensitive presses as possible fighting-game uses. Start with only the keys used for those actions, then test them in the game. The cited documentation does not provide a fighting-game-specific numeric preset.

Stealth, strategy, racing and other games
Use rapid trigger selectively when an unintended press could be costly. Wooting gives left control in a stealth game as an example of a key that may be better excluded. For racing, Razer describes analog input for feathering throttle and braking; that is an analog-input use case, not a general rapid-trigger preset.

Configure and tune the keyboard
- Confirm compatibility. Check your exact keyboard model and its documentation before looking for a setting. Wooting describes support for its Hall effect and certain optical analog keyboards; SteelSeries documents supported Apex Pro families; Razer documents feature controls for specified devices. Their setup paths and supported products differ. See SteelSeries’ activation instructions alongside the relevant manufacturer documentation.
- Open the supported controls. Wooting’s setup is in Wootility. SteelSeries documents activation through its software and on-device controls. Razer documents Synapse and onboard controls for specified keyboards. Follow the instructions for your model rather than assuming one vendor’s menus apply to another.
- Check actuation before sensitivity. Wooting says rapid trigger functions in relation to the configured actuation point. Set and verify actuation for the keys you are changing; adjusting sensitivity alone does not necessarily bypass actuation behavior.
- Limit the first change to useful keys. Configure a small group of game-critical keys, using per-key controls where available. Leave unrelated or accidental-prone keys with deliberate behavior.
- Test, then change one setting at a time. Use a practice environment in the target game. If inputs are missed, or keys reset and reactivate when you did not intend them to, adjust the relevant value and test again. Where supported, separate upstroke and downstroke sensitivity can help tune release and press behavior independently.
- Keep profiles distinct if your keyboard supports them. You may want different game and typing behavior, but confirm how profiles work on your specific device. Razer’s cited manual describes onboard profile examples; that should not be taken as evidence that every keyboard stores or switches profiles the same way.
Compare profiles by behavior, not promised performance
There is no standardized cross-game benchmark in the cited documentation. When comparing two profiles, record the input pattern, configured keys, actuation depth, rapid-trigger sensitivity (including separate upstroke and downstroke values if available), risk of accidental presses, and whether the keyboard supports per-key control. This makes the trade-offs visible without treating a vendor preset as a performance guarantee.
No independently published statistic in the cited sources quantifies rapid trigger’s performance gain across games. Razer’s 1.2 mm actuation and 0.3 mm sensitivity figures describe one vendor FPS profile only.
