Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor an H.264 YouTube stream at 1080p30, start with 14 Mbps video; at 1080p60, start with 17 Mbps. YouTube lists lower minimums—5 Mbps and 6 Mbps, respectively—but those are not the recommended targets. Configure a 2-second keyframe interval, use constant bitrate (CBR), set audio separately, and ensure your connection can sustain the combined output with headroom. These settings improve the odds of a stable stream; they cannot guarantee it.
Choose the bitrate for your frame rate and codec
YouTube’s live encoder table, accessed October 3, 2026, lists the following video-ingest figures for 1080p. They are platform recommendations, not measurements of stream reliability or guarantees of the quality viewers will receive after YouTube processes the stream.

| Codec | Frame rate | Minimum video bitrate | Recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| H.264 | 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 | 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 | 60 fps | 4 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
Source: YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions, accessed October 3, 2026. The figures apply to video ingestion; configure audio separately. If you choose AV1 or H.265, first confirm that your FFmpeg encoder and YouTube ingest path support that codec. H.264 is a practical default for a broadly compatible FFmpeg workflow.

Video rate control
YouTube recommends CBR for RTMP/RTMPS. A command containing -b:v, -maxrate and -bufsize expresses bitrate and buffering targets, but those flags alone do not prove that an encoder is operating in strict CBR mode. FFmpeg’s available controls vary by encoder, so check the documentation for the encoder you actually use and enable its CBR mode where required.
#1 Best Overall

Get the desired level via monitoring volume control when gaming recording. Smooth mic gain knob on the PC microphone gaming has some resistance to the point, easily for audio attenuation or boost presence to less post-production audio. (Only available for USB connection)
Keyframe interval
YouTube recommends a keyframe every 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. At a constant 30 fps, a 2-second GOP is 60 frames (-g 60); at 60 fps it is 120 frames (-g 120). Keep the selected frame rate and GOP calculation aligned.
Audio
YouTube’s published stereo recommendation is AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. RTMP/RTMPS audio may use AAC or MP3. Audio bitrate is additional to video bitrate, so include it when estimating the upload capacity needed.

ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -re -i input.mp4
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0?
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -b:v 14M -maxrate 14M -bufsize 28M -g 60
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv 'rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_ENDPOINT/YOUR_STREAM_KEY'
- Replace the input. Change
input.mp4to the path of your recording.-stream_loop -1requests indefinite looping of that input. Check that the file’s frame rate and audio are appropriate for the output you intend to send. - Choose the matching video settings. The example targets 1080p30 H.264 at YouTube’s recommended 14 Mbps. For 1080p60, use
-r 60,-b:v 17M,-maxrate 17M,-bufsize 34Mand-g 120. The doubled buffer here is an illustrative pairing with the bitrate; verify rate-control behavior with your chosen encoder. - Use your live ingest details. Replace the placeholder RTMPS endpoint and key with the current values shown in YouTube Live Control Room. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Run and observe the stream. Check FFmpeg output for errors and YouTube’s live stream health for ingest warnings. The stream is not confirmed stable merely because the command starts.
-re paces file input at real-time speed; do not add it blindly to a live capture device or input that is already live. FFmpeg applies options to the next specified file, so option order matters: input options belong before the relevant -i, while output encoding options belong after it. Consult FFmpeg’s command-line documentation.
Make sure the upload connection can sustain the stream
A speed-test peak is not proof that a connection can sustain a long broadcast. Test upload capacity and choose a quality it can reliably support, leaving room for audio and normal network variation. The precise headroom needed depends on your connection; no universal numeric margin is established here. If the recommended bitrate is unstable, lower the video bitrate or frame rate and test again rather than assuming the minimum will always be sufficient.

Before going live, YouTube recommends testing with audio and video movement similar to the planned stream, then monitoring stream health and messages during the event. A static or short test may not expose issues that appear with sustained load.
Prepare the loop for YouTube’s rules
A technically valid live feed does not grant rights to the music, footage or other material in it. Use content you own or have permission to stream, and review YouTube’s Community Guidelines and YouTube channel monetization policies if monetization is relevant. Repeating a video is not, by itself, proof that it complies with copyright rules or qualifies for monetization; decisions depend on the content and applicable policies.

Troubleshoot common stability problems
- YouTube reports insufficient or unstable bitrate: Confirm the stream’s actual bitrate and test sustained upload performance. Reduce bitrate or frame rate until the connection can carry the video and audio consistently.
- Keyframe or stream-configuration warning: Match the GOP to the chosen frame rate—60 frames at 30 fps or 120 at 60 fps for a 2-second interval—and check YouTube’s current ingest settings.
- FFmpeg rejects an option or encoder setting: Encoder-specific options vary. Check the installed build and its documentation; do not assume a generic bitrate flag enables strict CBR.
- The file plays once and stops: Confirm that
-stream_loop -1is placed before the input it applies to and that FFmpeg is reading the intended file. - The feed runs too quickly or behaves incorrectly with a live source:
-reis intended to pace file input. Remove it for a live capture or already-live input unless the source workflow specifically calls for it. - The stream disconnects briefly: Verify the connection and ingest endpoint first. FFmpeg documents an RTMP FIFO muxer recovery pattern using
-f fifo -fifo_format flv -drop_pkts_on_overflow 1 -attempt_recovery 1 -recovery_wait_time 1. This attempts recovery from some transient output interruptions; it cannot solve inadequate sustained upload, encoder overload, power loss or a platform outage. Check that your build supports the required components and validate the syntax against its documentation.
Or let it run in the cloud
