Use a legally obtained PS2 copy, connect a controller that your operating system exposes normally, select SDL in Settings > Controllers, run Automatic Mapping, and verify every input in the game. For graphics, leave Graphics API on Automatic first, then make any experiments in the game’s per-title Properties rather than changing global settings. The PCSX2 Wiki records one successful historical Windows test, but it used development build 1.5.0 DEV 2445 and should not be treated as a guarantee for current releases or every computer.
What this PC setup actually is
WWE All Stars is being configured here as a PlayStation 2 game inside PCSX2, not as a confirmed native Windows game. The PCSX2 Wiki lists the NTSC-U release as playable on Windows, while its detailed result came from a PCSX2 1.5.0 development build (2445). That is useful evidence that the game can work, but it is a historical test rather than a current benchmark.

For identifying the game image or disc, the PSX Data Center lists the North American PS2 serial as SLUS-21940 and the PAL identifier as SLES-55648. It also identifies a standard controller with analog input. Region, game image and controller behavior can therefore differ from one setup to another; use the identifier that matches your own legitimate copy. - Install a current PCSX2 release from its official distribution channel and complete its first-run configuration.
- Use your own PS2 game media or an image made from media you are entitled to use; this guide does not provide game files.
- Have a controller connected before mapping it, and make sure the operating system recognizes it without errors.
- Keep the first graphics test conservative. Upscaling and blending accuracy can increase GPU work substantially.
Before opening PCSX2: identify the variables that affect the result
Game region and serial
The NTSC-U and PAL releases have different identifiers. PCSX2 normally detects the title from the game you launch, but knowing whether you have SLUS-21940 or SLES-55648 helps you select the correct game entry when assigning a profile or checking compatibility notes. Do not assume that a result for one region proves identical behavior for the other.

Current build versus the historical test
The Wiki’s documented test used an Intel Core i5-6400 at 2.70 GHz, an AMD Radeon R7 200 Series graphics card with 2 GB of memory, PCSX2 1.5.0 DEV 2445 and GSdx Direct3D 11 Hardware. It reported full speed, no issues and multiplayer working on that configuration. The entry was last edited July 25, 2024. Because both the emulator build and hardware are old, treat the result as a reference point, not a promise that a current build will behave exactly the same on your PC. Why PCSX2’s requirement categories matter
PCSX2 publishes minimum, moderate and heavy requirement categories rather than a WWE All Stars-specific modern specification. It also explains that a slower computer may run a game without guaranteed playability, and that GPU demand changes markedly with internal resolution and blending accuracy. Start at defaults, measure actual gameplay, and increase visual quality one setting at a time. The current requirements guidance is at PCSX2’s system-requirements page.
Configure a controller in PCSX2
1. Connect and check the controller at the operating-system level
Connect a compatible USB or wireless controller before launching PCSX2. Confirm that the operating system lists it as an input device and that its sticks and buttons produce normal events. The evidence does not test a particular brand or model, so compatibility depends on whether the operating system exposes the device and whether PCSX2 can read it through a supported input source.

- Launch PCSX2.
- Open Settings > Controllers.
- For the input source, begin with SDL. PCSX2 describes SDL as its preferred, cross-platform source and says it suits most controllers and operating systems.
- Use Automatic Mapping when it is offered.
- Press each mapped face button, shoulder button, stick and directional control while watching the assignment. Correct anything that is reversed, duplicated or missing.

3. Verify the layout in an actual match
Automatic Mapping is a starting point, not proof that every action is correct. Launch WWE All Stars and test movement, camera or stick functions, grapples, strikes, blocking, menus and any multiplayer controls you intend to use. A button can appear mapped in the configuration screen yet feel wrong in a game if an axis is inverted or a trigger is reported differently by the driver.
4. Understand shared and per-game profiles
PCSX2 keeps a Shared input profile by default. That is the simplest choice when the controller layout works for your library. If WWE All Stars needs a different arrangement, create a custom profile and then assign it to the game’s entry in Properties. Merely creating or saving a profile does not make the game use it. The assignment step is essential and is documented in the same PCSX2 controller guide.
5. Test inputs when the interface gives you no tester
PCSX2’s current Qt and Big Picture interfaces do not include an input tester. The project’s documented method is the PS2 Pad Test homebrew: use it to confirm that the emulator receives the signals you expect. This is a general emulator diagnostic, not a WWE All Stars-specific preset. If the pad test fails, fix the device, source or mapping before trying to diagnose the game.

SDL sees no device
- Disconnect and reconnect the controller, then restart PCSX2 so the device is enumerated again.
- Check that the operating system recognizes the controller and that no other utility has exclusive control.
- Return to Settings > Controllers, select SDL again and repeat Automatic Mapping.
- If one device fails while another works, the difference is likely the device’s operating-system exposure or driver rather than a game-specific control setting.
Steam Input sends keyboard commands
PCSX2 documents cases in which Steam Input injects unrelated keyboard commands. Its documented workarounds include exiting Steam or changing Steam’s controller-support and desktop-layout settings. Apply one change at a time, then retest the controller in PCSX2. The relevant instructions are in the official controller documentation.

PCSX2 crashes as soon as a controller is used
PCSX2 also documents crashes associated with some controllers using the EZFRD64.dll driver. Do not install random third-party driver packages to solve a mapping problem. Remove or update the problematic device software through the normal operating-system method, reconnect the controller, and retry with SDL. The driver warning and troubleshooting context are documented at PCSX2’s controller page.
The second player has no controls
Map the second pad separately and test it before entering a match. If you changed a profile, confirm that the profile is assigned to the game and that both devices are exposed to PCSX2. The historical Wiki test reported multiplayer working, but only on its specified 1.5.0 DEV 2445 setup; it does not establish that every current combination will work without configuration.
Choose a graphics API without guessing
Start with Automatic
Open the graphics settings and leave Graphics API on Automatic if you are unsure. PCSX2 says Automatic selects an API according to your GPU and operating system, prioritizing stability and then accuracy. The project’s wording is: “When the Graphics API is set to Automatic, PCSX2 will choose which graphics API to use depending on your GPU and operating system. Use per-game Properties for experiments
Open the WWE All Stars entry’s Properties and make a graphics change there. A per-game setting isolates the experiment from every other title in your library. If the game becomes slower, shows visual errors or fails to start, undo that title-specific change instead of trying to remember which global option was altered.
How the historical Direct3D 11 result should be read
The Wiki’s test used GSdx Direct3D 11 Hardware and reported full speed with no issues on the i5-6400/Radeon R7 200 configuration described above. That makes Direct3D 11 Hardware a documented historical data point, not a prescription for current PCs. Driver versions, PCSX2 revisions, operating systems and rendering settings have changed; test Automatic first and only compare APIs when you have a reproducible problem.
A safe graphics-tuning sequence
- Launch the game with Graphics API: Automatic and the emulator’s default internal resolution and accuracy settings.
- Play long enough to observe menus, entrances, a full match and any local multiplayer you plan to use.
- If performance is stable, raise internal resolution one step in the game’s Properties, then retest the same scenario.
- If speed falls, audio breaks up or frames become uneven, return to the previous resolution before changing several other options.
- Only after reproducing a specific issue should you compare another hardware API or try software mode for diagnosis.
- Record which per-game setting produced the result so you can revert it quickly.
PCSX2’s requirements guidance specifically warns that GPU load depends heavily on upscaling level and blending accuracy. A sharper image is therefore not free: it can turn a stable configuration into one with slowdowns even when the base game itself is undemanding.
Diagnose slow or incorrect graphics
The game runs below full speed
- Return the API to Automatic.
- Reduce internal resolution to the default or the last stable value.
- Reduce blending accuracy if you increased it; it can add GPU work.
- Close other GPU-intensive applications and retest before changing the controller configuration.
- If hardware rendering remains problematic, test software mode only as a diagnostic and remember that it requires a strong CPU.
The picture is wrong but speed is acceptable
- Undo the latest per-game graphics change.
- Try Automatic again, since PCSX2 gives stability priority when choosing an API.
- Compare another hardware API only after recording the original setting and the exact visual symptom.
- Do not treat the old Direct3D 11 result as evidence that Direct3D 11 is correct for every modern driver.
The game will not boot after an experiment
Open the title’s Properties and revert the last graphics change. Keeping experiments per game is valuable precisely because it limits recovery to one entry. If you cannot identify the change, restore that title’s defaults and retest before touching global settings.

What “compatible” means in this case
Compatibility is not a single yes-or-no guarantee. It includes the game region, current PCSX2 build, graphics driver, internal resolution, controller driver and whether Steam or another program intercepts input. The historical entry demonstrates one successful combination; PCSX2’s current requirements page explains why a different computer may need lower settings. A setup that reaches full speed at native internal resolution may not remain full speed after aggressive upscaling.
For controllers, the practical test is equally specific: does the operating system expose the device, does SDL detect it, does Automatic Mapping assign sensible controls, and does the game respond correctly? No cited source tests a particular controller model, so avoid treating any untested model as guaranteed.
Quick checklist before you play
- Confirm that your game is the PS2 release and note whether it is NTSC-U (
SLUS-21940) or PAL (SLES-55648). - Connect the controller before opening PCSX2.
- Choose SDL in Settings > Controllers.
- Run Automatic Mapping and manually check every action that matters.
- Keep Shared unless you need a different layout; assign any custom profile through the game’s Properties.
- Use PS2 Pad Test when the PCSX2 interface does not provide an input tester.
- Set Graphics API to Automatic when uncertain.
- Keep graphics experiments per game and raise internal resolution gradually.
- If Steam sends keyboard commands, exit Steam or adjust its controller-support and desktop-layout settings.
- If a controller causes crashes, investigate the documented
EZFRD64.dlldriver issue instead of installing random drivers. - Keep the age and build number attached to any comparison with the historical 1.5.0 DEV 2445 result.
Bottom line for a reliable PC setup
Use PCSX2’s PS2 route, SDL and Automatic Mapping for input, and Automatic graphics selection with conservative defaults. Assign custom controller layouts and graphics changes in the WWE All Stars Properties page so troubleshooting stays contained to this game. The old Direct3D 11 Hardware test proves that one specified Windows configuration reached full speed, but it cannot replace testing your own current PCSX2 build, drivers, game region and display settings.
