GrabzIt’s Web Monitor describes version review and comparison, but its documentation does not establish a built-in pixel-highlighted diff overlay. For highlighted changed pixels, export the images and use a separate image-diff tool.
Choose what to monitor
Decide whether you need to track an entire page or one component. Whole-page captures show broad layout and content changes; a selected region can keep unrelated movement, such as a changing recommendation panel, out of the review.

GrabzIt’s REST monitor interface accepts a CSS selector. Its documentation says :root can be used to target the whole page. Use a narrower selector when the question is specifically whether a component changed. See GrabzIt’s REST API documentation for the monitor and selector options.
Make each capture comparable
Keep the capture conditions stable between the baseline and later screenshots:
#1 Best Overall
- Use the same page URL.
- Keep browser width and height consistent.
- Capture the same whole page or selected CSS region.
- Use consistent timing, especially on pages with animation, delayed content, or changing data.
GrabzIt’s API documentation lists a default browser width of 1366 pixels and maximum width and height of 10000 pixels. Those are API parameter values, not universal recommendations; select dimensions that match the layout you need to inspect. Wait for relevant content to settle before capture so a timing difference is less likely to look like a site change.
Save and review versions in GrabzIt
- Set up a monitor for the page or CSS selector you chose.
- Save an initial capture as the reference state.
- Use scheduled or change-triggered captures to preserve later states. GrabzIt’s Website Change Monitor & Tracker describes monitoring, notifications, history, comparisons, and exports. Its Automated Website Screenshot Tool describes scheduled and on-demand capture and archiving.
- Review the saved versions, first side by side or by switching between them. The Web Monitor page says users can review the last ten detected changes; this stated history depth may change.
- Decide whether a visible change is intended. If it is, accept the new state as your reference; if not, investigate the relevant page or deployment.
A difference between screenshots tells you the rendered images are different; it does not, by itself, prove there is a defect.

When you need a pixel-highlighted diff
Version history and visual diff overlays are different features. The reviewed GrabzIt pages establish capture history and version review, but not a built-in overlay that marks changed pixels. Export the old and new captures and pass them to a separate image-comparison workflow if you need a highlighted diff. Choose pixel comparison when exact rendered pixels matter, or a perceptual comparison when small rendering variations should not dominate the review.

For a trustworthy comparison, confirm that both exported images have matching dimensions and represent the same URL, region, and capture timing. A diff can reveal changes caused by content, layout, fonts, animation, or rendering conditions; inspect the page context before treating every marked area as a regression.

Automate monitoring through the REST API
GrabzIt’s REST API can add a monitor with a repeat interval and selector, plus an optional email or callback notification. That is useful when changes should be noticed without manually checking the archive. Keep the application key on a trusted server: GrabzIt explicitly warns against exposing it in client-side REST calls. Consult the REST API documentation for request parameters and credential handling.
GrabzIt states that up to 50 webpage changes can be monitored per month free. This is a vendor-stated offer, so check the current service terms before relying on it. The GrabzIt service overview and API overview describe its broader capture services.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return an image or PDF; for website-change work, capture the same URL with the same viewport and other settings on each run, then compare the saved images with your chosen diff workflow. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response indicates the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server gives AI agents tools to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs.
Example cURL call (replace the URL with the page you want to capture):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for the API options, including viewport and full-page capture. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.

Troubleshooting comparison results
- The whole page looks different, but the component did not change: monitor a more specific CSS selector rather than
:root. - Captures differ unpredictably: align the viewport, URL, selected region, and timing; wait for dynamic content to settle.
- You cannot see which pixels changed: use exported captures with a separate diff workflow; GrabzIt’s reviewed documentation establishes history and review, not a highlighted pixel overlay.
- Notifications or API automation fail: check the monitor interval, selector, and configured email or callback settings. Keep the application key server-side and follow GrabzIt’s REST documentation.
