Compare what each service stores before comparing its storage number. A 24/7 YouTube workflow may involve uploaded source videos measured in gigabytes, saved recordings measured in hours, and YouTube’s separate rewind and archive behavior. Those limits describe different things and cannot be treated as interchangeable.
What does “storage” mean in a 24/7 streaming service?
Start by identifying the object being stored. A provider’s capacity figure may describe your uploaded source-video library, recordings of completed broadcasts, or YouTube’s own replay and archive functions.
- Source-media storage: Files held by a streaming service and played in a loop or playlist. Providers commonly express this in GB.
- Recording retention: Completed recordings saved in a studio account. This may be expressed in hours and is not necessarily a library of source files for continuous playback.
- YouTube DVR and archives: Viewer rewind during a live broadcast and the post-stream recording YouTube may make. These are platform behaviors, not additional storage in the streaming service.
A larger GB allowance does not automatically mean longer recordings, longer individual streams, or more rewind availability.
How do the published limits compare?
The following are specifications surfaced on official service or help pages, not results of independent performance testing. The figures are not a complete survey of all providers.

Which limits should you check before choosing?
Capacity unit and per-file ceiling
For a loop library, add the sizes of all source files you plan to keep available, then compare that total with the service’s total storage. Also check the maximum size of one upload: a provider can have a large overall allowance but reject a single file that exceeds its individual ceiling. LiveReacting’s surfaced Enterprise details illustrate the distinction: 150 GB total file storage and a 20 GB maximum individual video are separate limits.

Stream duration and continuity
Ask whether the plan limits the length of one broadcast, supports a continuous loop, or restarts a stream when a duration cap is reached. A duration ceiling is not a storage allowance. For a 24/7 channel, establish how the service handles a scheduled end, restart, playlist continuation, and any interruption before treating a plan as continuous.
Concurrent streams, quality, and library workflow
Confirm how many streams can run at once, which resolutions and frame rates are supported, and whether the service plays your file as uploaded or converts it. Check that playlists, scheduling, and changes to the library fit your workflow. A large capacity figure cannot compensate for too few simultaneous streams or a quality ceiling that does not suit your source.

Retention, deletion, and backup
Find out whether a provider stores source files, completed recordings, or both; how long recordings remain available; whether you can download them; and what happens when an account reaches its limit. Keep an independent local copy if preserving a broadcast matters. YouTube recommends, “We recommend recording a local archive as a backup” (YouTube Help: Archive live streams). A portable external SSD is one possible place for a local copy; the cited guidance does not specify a required capacity or model.
Why YouTube’s 12-hour guidance matters
YouTube’s help guidance treats DVR rewind and archive capture as separate concerns. DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Its archive guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a genuinely continuous broadcast, do not promise viewers they can rewind the whole stream or rely on one uninterrupted broadcast becoming a complete archive. These are YouTube platform limits, independent of how much source media a streaming service stores.

A practical comparison checklist
- List your files. Record each source file’s size and calculate the combined size of the intended rotation.
- Match the unit. Compare that total with source-media storage in GB; do not compare it directly with recording-retention hours.
- Check the largest upload. Verify the maximum individual file size as well as the total allowance.
- Verify operating limits. Check stream duration, simultaneous-stream count, resolution and frame-rate support, and whether playlists or continuous loops are supported.
- Check what happens at the limit. Establish whether uploads are blocked, older assets are removed, recording stops, or the stream itself is affected.
- Plan for YouTube separately. Treat DVR and post-stream archiving as separate from provider capacity; keep a local recording if you need a dependable independent copy.
Provider plan pages can change. Confirm the selected plan’s storage, individual upload ceiling, stream-duration limit, concurrency, quality, and playlist or continuous-loop support before paying.
