A component is a good buy only if it fits your system, suits your workload, and costs less overall than comparable alternatives. Start by confirming compatibility, compare like-for-like configurations, use price history to judge whether a discount is meaningful, and verify the exact offer and its terms before checkout.
1. Confirm compatibility and what you need
Before comparing prices, identify your computer or motherboard and the job the component must do. Check the manufacturer’s documentation or a compatibility configurator; a cheaper part that your system cannot use is not a genuine alternative. The general guidance in iTechGuides’ October 4, 2026 guide to checking RAM and SSD prices likewise recommends confirming support before comparing parts.

For a graphics card, include your intended games or applications and target resolution in the comparison. The same GPU can be a different value for different workloads, so price alone cannot establish which card is right for you.

Once you have a set of compatible options, match the characteristics that affect whether they serve the same purpose. A lower price is informative only when the alternatives are sufficiently alike.
#1 Best Overall
- PCIe 4.0 Performance: Delivers up to 7,100 MB/s read and 6,000 MB/s write speeds for quicker game load times, bootups, and smooth multitasking
- Spacious 1TB SSD: Provides space for AAA games, apps, and media with standard Gen4 NVMe performance for casual gamers and home users
- Broad Compatibility: Works seamlessly with laptops, desktops, and select gaming consoles including ROG Ally X, Lenovo Legion Go, and AYANEO Kun. Also backward compatible with PCIe Gen3 systems for flexible upgrades
- Better Productivity: Up to 2x faster than previous Gen3 generation. Improve performance for real world tasks like booting Windows, starting applications like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and working in applications like Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Trusted Micron Quality: Built with advanced G8 NAND and thermal control for reliable Gen4 performance trusted by gamers and home users
RAM
- Match the memory generation and total capacity.
- Compare supported speed and timings, and check that the kit is suitable for your system.
SSDs
- Match capacity, form factor, and interface. For example, do not treat every drive with the same capacity as interchangeable if one will not fit or connect to your system.
- Compare relevant performance and endurance claims, and check warranty and support terms.
Graphics cards
- Compare the exact card configuration, including memory and physical dimensions.
- Check power requirements and whether the card fits your intended workload.
- Use workload-specific benchmark results when comparing performance. The available sources do not establish a benchmark-based winner among particular GPU models, so do not infer one from price or model names alone.
3. Use price per gigabyte only as a first screen
Price per gigabyte can quickly surface capacity-price differences among otherwise suitable SSDs or memory kits. It is not a complete value measure: it does not tell you whether a part is compatible, fast enough, durable, low-latency, or supported to your needs. It also does not compare GPU performance. Treat it as a filter for finding candidates, not as the final decision rule.
4. Put the asking price in historical context
A tracker’s chart can help you assess whether a sale price is unusual or close to a product’s recent levels. Its coverage is limited to the particular products, retailers, and period it tracks; confirm the exact product identity rather than relying on a similar name or capacity.

For example, MemRadar’s index, last computed October 6, 2026, covers 235 tracked RAM and SSD products and reports median price changes for its tracked categories. Those numbers describe MemRadar’s covered products and methodology, not universal market averages:

| MemRadar category | 1 month | 3 months | 6 months | 1 year |

MemRadar says the index used 73,944 daily price points. The category figures can give context, but they do not predict what an individual product will cost next or establish a universally best time to buy. MemRadar’s homepage also identifies tracked products with recent price drops; any product or retailer price shown there is volatile and should be checked against the live offer.

The Comparator describes its service as comparing specifications and current prices, with dated offers for the United States and Canada. Its stated coverage is not a guarantee that it includes every retailer or a buyer’s local market. Outside those countries, use locally relevant sources and check prices in your currency. See The Comparator for its own description of its coverage.
5. Verify the live offer and the total cost
Price-history charts and comparison listings are starting points, not checkout prices. Open the retailer’s current listing and verify the exact model, configuration, stock status, seller, and price. A tracked example such as the WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB NVMe SSD is an example to check, not an endorsement; MemRadar lists it among products with a recent price drop and identifies Amazon as a retailer.

- This product has been replaced by our latest generation. Please search for the SANDISK Optimus GX 7100 NVMe SSD
- HIGH-OCTANE GAMING. Experience speeds up to 7,250MB/s read and 6,900MB/s write (1-2TB models), with up to 35% faster performance than previous generation.
- PURPOSE-BUILT. Designed for serious on-the-go gamers, with a PCIe Gen4 interface and SANDISK’s next generation TLC 3D NAND.
- MORE TIME TO CLEAR THAT CHECKPOINT. Built with laptops and handheld gaming devices in mind, with up to 100% more power efficiency over the previous generation.
- DO MORE WITH DASHBOARD. Ensure your drive is optimized for prime performance with the downloadable WD_BLACK Dashboard (Windows only).
Before deciding, compare the total cost and purchase conditions:
- Shipping and taxes, plus any discount you can actually apply.
- Whether the item is in stock and who is selling it.
- The return window and warranty terms.
- Whether the product listing matches the exact capacity, model, and configuration you compared.
These terms vary by offer, and the comparison services’ listings do not establish the conditions for a particular retailer checkout. Read the retailer’s own current page before placing the order.

6. Make the decision without collapsing it into one number
For each compatible candidate, weigh the factors that matter to your use: compatibility, useful capacity or workload performance, relevant specifications and benchmark evidence, total current cost, price-history context, and seller, warranty, and return terms. A single price-per-gigabyte figure or tracker score cannot account for all of them. If two options are close, prioritize the characteristic that matters most to your workload and system rather than assuming the lowest headline price is the best value.
