What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Scroll through the content you need to test so the page triggers its lazy-loading behavior, wait for the relevant images to load successfully, and only then capture and compare screenshots. A full-page screenshot captures the page’s scrollable area, but it does not by itself ensure that offscreen images were requested or rendered.
Why lazy-loaded images go missing from screenshots
With loading="lazy", a browser can postpone requesting an offscreen image until it estimates the image is near the viewport. A page’s load event does not prove those images are ready. Sites can also load images through application code, for example with Intersection Observer, so the right trigger depends on how the page works.

A screenshot tool can capture the current page while some of its images are still placeholders or have not been requested. The fix is to prepare the page first: trigger the relevant loading behavior, check image readiness, then capture.
Prepare the page before capturing
- Set the test conditions. Navigate to the exact route and establish the intended application state, viewport, browser project, and test data.
- Trigger loading in the content under test. Scroll through the document in increments, or scroll the relevant nested container. Allow scroll-triggered code and requests to run. For Intersection Observer, an element must intersect its observer’s root; a positive
rootMarginmay trigger loading before it is visible. - Wait for image outcomes. Check the images in scope after scrolling. An image’s
completeproperty can be true even when it failed, so also check thatnaturalWidthis greater than zero, or explicitly account for expected failures. - Return to the intended capture position. For a viewport comparison, scroll back to the target position after preparing offscreen content.
- Capture and compare. Use the same capture scope and conditions for the current page and approved baseline, then inspect differences before changing the baseline.
There is no universal scroll increment or fixed delay that guarantees readiness: observer roots and margins, request latency, and application behavior vary by site. CSS background images and content inserted after scrolling may need application-specific checks. A short sleep can give code time to run, but prefer condition-based waits for actual readiness.

Illustrative Playwright pattern
This example scrolls the page in increments, returns to the top, checks document images, and captures a full-page screenshot. Adapt it for your application; it is not a universal or independently tested recipe. In particular, scope the image check to the region under test, handle deliberate placeholders or known failures, and scroll nested containers when necessary.
// Trigger viewport-based loading, allowing application observers to run.
for (let y = 0; y < await page.locator('body').evaluate(el => el.scrollHeight); y += 600) {
await page.evaluate(y => window.scrollTo(0, y), y);
await page.waitForTimeout(100);
}
await page.evaluate(() => window.scrollTo(0, 0));
// Wait for in-scope <img> elements to resolve successfully or fail explicitly.
await page.waitForFunction(() =>
[...document.images].every(img => img.complete && img.naturalWidth > 0)
);
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot({ fullPage: true });
The image predicate above treats every document image as required. If your page intentionally includes empty placeholders or images expected to fail, narrow the predicate or assert those outcomes separately. For dynamically added images, make sure the wait covers the content that appears after scrolling.

Choose the screenshot scope that answers the test question
| Scope | Use it for | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Full page | Document-wide layout and content regression | Captures the scrollable page; prepare lazy-loaded content first. |
| Viewport | The initial view or a specific scroll position | Keep the position and viewport identical between baseline and current capture. |
| Element or locator | A specific component | Prepare any lazy content inside that component before capturing it. |
Playwright documents full-page screenshots and screenshot assertions in its screenshots guide. Its toHaveScreenshot() assertion waits until two consecutive screenshots match before comparing, which can stabilize capture. That stabilization does not trigger every lazy-loaded asset or replace an explicit readiness check. See the visual comparisons documentation for screenshot comparison behavior and options.

Rendering can vary even when the page has not changed. Playwright notes: “Browser rendering can vary based on the host OS, version, settings, hardware, power source (battery or power adapter), headless mode, and other factors.” Keep the browser version, operating system, viewport, device scale, fonts, application state, and test data consistent where possible. When a difference appears, determine whether it is a missing image request, intended content change, genuine visual regression, or environment drift before approving a new baseline.

Screenshot assertions offer tolerance options, such as a maximum number of differing pixels. Set a threshold based on the expected rendering noise and the risk of overlooking a real change; do not use it to conceal an unexplained diff. Validate options against the Playwright version installed in your project.
Troubleshoot missing or unstable images
- An image is still a placeholder: Scroll the relevant document area or nested container to trigger the site’s observer, then wait for the image request and rendering to settle.
- The readiness wait passes for a broken image: Do not rely on
completealone. RequirenaturalWidth > 0for successful images or explicitly assert the expected error state. - The wait never finishes: Check whether the page contains intentionally empty images, known broken assets, or images outside the test scope. Narrow the predicate or handle those cases explicitly.
- Images load only after a particular interaction: Reproduce that interaction or invoke the application’s supported loading path; scrolling alone may not trigger it.
- A full-page capture still omits content: Treat full-page capture as scope, not preparation. Trigger loading before capture and verify the assets in scope.
- Diffs vary between runs: Stabilize browser, OS, viewport, fonts, test data, and page state. Distinguish environmental rendering noise from unexplained changes before adjusting tolerance.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its API can capture a prepared URL as an image or PDF; for page-specific lazy loading, make sure the page’s relevant content is triggered and ready before requesting the capture.
