To find a better flight, search a realistic range of travel dates and include nearby airports you can actually reach. Then compare complete itineraries—not just the lowest fare—by total price, journey time, stops, airport changes, baggage, and ticket conditions. Confirm the final details with the airline or booking site before paying.
Set up a useful search
Start with the details that should stay fixed: destination, number of passengers, cabin, and the reason for the trip. Choose a realistic date window around your preferred departure and return dates. If the trip length can vary, decide what range is acceptable; otherwise, keep the length fixed so you are comparing like with like.

Use a date grid or calendar, or a price graph, to see how fares vary across the dates you could travel. Google describes these tools in its flight-deal guidance. A lower fare on a different day only helps if that schedule still works for your trip.

Broaden the search to more than one departure or arrival airport if the alternatives are practical for you. In Google Flights, you can enter multiple airports or select nearby airports from an airport search; see Google’s instructions for finding flights.

Judge the airport as part of the journey, not just as a fare option. A cheaper flight from a more distant airport may require extra transport, time, or an overnight stay. Compare the airports used on every leg, including the return, and check whether a connection requires changing airports.
Shortlist itineraries by value, not headline fare
Once you have candidate dates and airports, compare a small set of itineraries that genuinely fit your plans. Google says its “Best” results weigh price alongside convenience and ease of booking, including trip duration, stops, and airport changes. Its “Cheapest” results can include tradeoffs such as self-transferring baggage or using different airports on outbound and return legs. The labels are useful filters, but you still need to inspect the itinerary.

| Compare | What to check |
|---|---|
| Fare | Displayed fare, then the seller’s final price with baggage and other applicable charges. |
| Dates | Whether moving departure or return by a day or more changes the fare without disrupting the purpose or length of your trip. |
| Airports | Departure and arrival airport for each leg, ground access, and any airport change during a connection. |
| Convenience | Total duration, stops, departure and arrival times, and time spent in transit. |
| Ticket structure | Whether the itinerary is on one ticket or uses separate tickets or self-transfer, and what that means for baggage and connections. |
| Seller terms | Live availability, baggage rules, and change or cancellation conditions shown by the airline or online travel agency. |
Check baggage and the true trip cost
Compare the itinerary using the bags you will actually take. Google Flights’ bag filter can adjust displayed prices for selected checked-bag or carry-on fees, but airline baggage rules and charges differ, and an estimated fee may be subject to additional taxes. Confirm the allowance, size limits, and price for your specific fare with the seller before booking.
Google says its displayed airfare includes standard taxes and airport taxes, but baggage, credit-card, and other fees may apply. Its booking help describes the price as covering the passenger air transport service and including VAT/GST and airport taxes. Treat the search result as a starting price, not necessarily your final out-of-pocket total.

Understand separate tickets and self-transfer
Some low-priced itineraries combine separate tickets or require you to transfer yourself between flights. That can mean collecting and rechecking baggage, and a delay on one ticket can leave you at risk of missing a flight on another. Read the itinerary and connection conditions carefully; do not assume the airlines will treat separate bookings as a protected connection.
Check whether you must change terminals or airports, pass through immigration, or allow time to reclaim and recheck bags. If the ticket structure or connection arrangements are unclear, verify them with the airline or booking site before paying.

Verify the offer before you book
Open the booking option and confirm the exact airports, dates, flight times, stops, ticket structure, baggage allowance, and total price. Check the change and cancellation terms at the same time. Google notes that some airlines or offers may not appear in its results, including when a carrier is not a Google partner, so search results are not a guarantee of every available fare.

Google advises contacting the airline or agency for booking changes or issues; the seller shown for your itinerary is the relevant starting point.

Track prices if you are not ready to book
If your plans are not settled, Google Flights lets you track prices for fixed dates or “Any dates” and can email you when a tracked price changes significantly. Tracking is a way to monitor fares, not a promise that the price will drop. When an alert arrives, reopen the itinerary and verify the live price and terms before deciding.
