Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchCompare the exact laptop configurations—not just their GPU names—and judge price only after checking performance in comparable tests and matching the features you need. The same GPU label does not guarantee the same performance in every laptop: NVIDIA says performance varies by model and recommends checking the manufacturer’s specifications.
Do two laptops with the same GPU perform the same?
Not necessarily. A GPU name identifies a graphics processor family, but a laptop’s implementation and its test conditions affect the performance you experience. Check the specific model’s GPU power limit, often listed as total graphics power (TGP), and use model-specific reviews when the manufacturer does not disclose it. Do not infer the power limit from the GPU name.

NVIDIA’s published RTX 40-series performance note specifies a 150W GPU TGP and results at 1440p with highest game settings, using DLSS Super Resolution Quality Mode and DLSS Frame Generation when available. NVIDIA also cautions that performance varies by laptop model. Those are vendor-stated test conditions, not a guarantee that every laptop with the same GPU will match those results. See NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 Series Gaming Laptops page.

NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series comparison likewise specifies a 150W TGP, 1440p resolution and maximum settings, while its DLSS settings differ by GPU generation. A result with upscaling or frame generation enabled is not directly interchangeable with a native-rendering result. Review NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 Series Gaming Laptops page for its stated conditions.

Build a shortlist of exact configurations
Make one row for each exact SKU or retailer configuration, not one row for a laptop family. Two listings with the same family name may have different memory, storage, screens or other specifications. Record the seller and date because prices, availability and configurations can change.
| What to record | Details to capture | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Price and purchase terms | Exact configuration; price and date checked; currency; tax and shipping; seller; warranty region | A headline sale price may not include the full cost or apply to the same configuration and warranty. |
| GPU | Full GPU designation; documented TGP or power limit; VRAM; manufacturer specification link | The GPU label alone does not establish how a particular laptop performs. |
| Benchmarks | Game or application; result; resolution; graphics settings; power profile; upscaling and frame-generation settings | Results are comparable only when the test conditions and metric are alike. |
| Processor and memory | CPU model and power class; RAM capacity and configuration; whether RAM is upgradeable | These can affect performance, multitasking and future upgrade options. |
| Storage | SSD capacity and available upgrade options | Capacity and expansion can change the value of otherwise similar listings. |
| Display | Size; resolution; refresh rate; panel type; verified brightness or color claims | The screen should suit the intended work, and its resolution affects how demanding games are to run. |
| Portability and connections | Weight; battery capacity or measured battery life with test conditions; charger size; ports | A performance-per-dollar bargain may be a poor fit if you need portability, battery life or specific connections. |
| Support | Warranty length and region; support terms | Warranty coverage can differ by seller and market. |
Compare prices in six steps
- Set the workload and target resolution. Decide whether the laptop is mainly for gaming, creative applications or another demanding task. A creator’s rendering workload and high-refresh gaming do not necessarily reward the same compromises.
- Set a performance floor. Shortlist GPUs with the features you need, then check model-specific results to confirm adequate performance. Do not assume a higher GPU number is worth a higher price without a relevant test.
- Verify the laptop’s GPU configuration. Look up the exact model on the manufacturer’s page. Record its documented TGP or power limit and VRAM. If the maker does not state the power limit, mark it unknown and look for reliable reviews of that specific laptop.
- Match benchmark conditions. Compare the same game or application, resolution, graphics settings and power profile. Keep native rendering separate from tests using upscaling or frame generation; those settings change both the result and the experience.
- Match the rest of the configuration and purchase terms. Compare CPU, RAM, storage, display, portability, ports and warranty. Check exact listings in the same market and on the same date, including tax, shipping and seller status where relevant.
- Choose a winner for a stated reason. For example, decide which costs less for comparable tested gaming performance, or which is more portable while meeting a defined performance floor. If one wins only because it has a better screen or longer battery life for your needs, say so rather than calling it universally better value.
Compare like-for-like results, not a single score
Prefer a direct comparison from the same reviewer or tests using consistent methods. When reading benchmark tables, check the test resolution, quality preset, laptop power profile and whether frame generation or upscaling was enabled. Do not combine results from different games, applications or test settings into a single performance ranking unless the method makes them genuinely comparable.

For gaming, a result with frame generation enabled answers a different question from native rendering: it can affect reported frame rates and the way motion feels. Keep those results in separate columns or comparisons. The same discipline applies to application benchmarks: compare the same application and workload rather than treating a score from one task as a universal measure of laptop speed.
What else should you compare besides the GPU?
- CPU: Check the exact processor and its power class. Similar GPU performance does not make two complete systems equivalent.
- RAM and storage: Compare capacity, configuration and upgrade options alongside the price of the exact listing.
- Screen: Match resolution and refresh rate to the work or games you care about, and verify panel claims rather than relying on broad marketing language.
- Portability: Weigh the laptop, battery evidence and charger size against how often you will carry it or use it away from an outlet.
- Ports and support: Check required connections, warranty region and seller terms before deciding that a lower price is the better deal.
What a real comparison can—and cannot—show
Windows Central’s 2025 comparison of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2025) and Razer Blade 14 (2025) illustrates why these details belong beside price. It lists GPU, CPU, RAM, SSD, ports, battery and weight; reports GPU power handling of up to 110W for its G14 comparison configuration and 115W for its Blade 14 configuration; and describes four-game testing with frame generation disabled before discussing how enabling it changes the comparison. The article also reports different starting prices and upgrade prices, but those figures are historical snapshots, not current offers. Its results illustrate one comparison, not a universal ranking.
