Compare the corresponding Hindi and English pages at the same viewport and in the same browser environment, then review visual differences alongside the actual text. The screenshots should help you find layout or content changes—not force translated pages to look pixel-identical. Hindi and English text can wrap differently, changing element heights and page flow without indicating a defect.
Set up a fair comparison
Start with equivalent URLs and states. A page with an open menu, consent banner, carousel, or chat widget is not directly comparable with one where that element is closed. Decide what state you want to inspect, then reproduce it for both languages.
Build a small comparison matrix
Choose important page templates—such as a landing page, product page, and checkout—and compare each in both languages at matching desktop and mobile viewports. Add more pages or sizes if they matter to your audience or past defects. A language-by-viewport matrix makes gaps in coverage visible.

Use the same browser, operating environment, viewport dimensions, test data, and capture settings for each pair. Playwright cautions that rendering can vary with the host OS, browser version, settings, hardware, power state, and headless mode; keep baseline and current captures in the same environment (Playwright visual comparisons).
Capture and compare the pages
Manual review
- Open the matching English and Hindi URLs in the same browser setup.
- Set the same viewport size and reproduce the same page state, including menu, consent, and carousel state.
- Capture both pages at the same scale. Use full-page captures if you need to compare content below the fold.
- Display the screenshots side by side at equal scale. Keep filenames or folders labeled by page, language, viewport, and date so the pair remains identifiable.
For a one-off check, this approach is quick and keeps image organization under your control. Its repeatability depends on the reviewer consistently applying the same capture conditions.

Repeatable checks with Playwright Test
For recurring developer-owned checks, Playwright Test can create a reference screenshot on the first run and compare later captures with toHaveScreenshot(). Its documentation says the initial capture waits until two consecutive screenshots match. A minimal test can check each language URL independently:
import { test, expect } from '@playwright/test';
test('English page visual baseline', async ({ page }) => {
await page.setViewportSize({ width: 1440, height: 900 });
await page.goto('https://example.com/en');
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot('home-en.png', { fullPage: true });
});
test('Hindi page visual baseline', async ({ page }) => {
await page.setViewportSize({ width: 1440, height: 900 });
await page.goto('https://example.com/hi');
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot('home-hi.png', { fullPage: true });
});
Replace the example URLs with your corresponding pages and apply the same setup and test data to both. Snapshot naming includes browser and platform context, so run comparisons in the same environment as the baseline. Playwright uses PNG by default and also supports lossless WebP. Its --update-snapshots option changes the references future runs treat as expected; use it only after reviewing the difference.

Read differences without treating translation as a defect
Review each pair for missing or untranslated content, clipping, overflow, line wrapping and line-height, navigation shifts, broken controls, image or crop changes, and changes in page length. Hindi text may take more or less space than English, so assess whether the layout remains usable rather than expecting matching pixels.
- Likely localization issue: a missing translation, untranslated string, clipped text, or control that becomes inaccessible in one language.
- Potentially intended variation: a translated label wraps onto another line or changes the height of a section while remaining readable and functional.
- Potential capture noise: small differences in dynamic content, rendering, or transient UI that are not consistently reproducible.
A screenshot diff shows visual change; it cannot determine whether the Hindi wording is semantically correct. Pair image review with a content check. Playwright supports text snapshots with toMatchSnapshot(), which can help flag unexpected string changes alongside visual checks.
Rank #3
Control visual noise and maintain baselines
Playwright provides pixel-difference controls such as maxDiffPixels and a stylePath stylesheet for hiding volatile elements. Set thresholds based on noise you actually observe; the documentation’s numeric example is not a universal recommended threshold. Keep masks narrow so genuine layout defects remain visible.
- Investigate a changed screenshot before changing its reference.
- Decide whether the difference is an intended translation or design change, a defect, or capture noise.
- Fix defects first. Update a reference only after a person has reviewed and accepted the intended change.
Choose a method for your review
| Method | Best fit | Setup and repeatability | Privacy and sharing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual paired screenshots | Occasional checks or a small page set | Capture and organize images yourself; consistency relies on reviewer discipline. | Store files wherever your team chooses. |
| Playwright Test | Repeatable visual regression checks owned by developers | Requires test code, a browser environment, and stored references; assertions and comparison settings support repeat runs. | Images can remain in project or CI storage, depending on team setup. |
| VisualRunner | Local capture or team monitoring across languages and viewports | The vendor describes a browser extension, hosted collaboration, and scheduled monitoring. Its site says local mode supports Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, up to five languages, and up to two viewports and two variables; verify current plan details with the vendor. | The vendor says local screenshots stay on-device; hosted collaboration syncs results. |
VisualRunner’s feature and privacy descriptions are vendor statements, not independent comparative test results (VisualRunner). Choose based on whether you need occasional human review, code-based regression checks, or a vendor-described monitoring workflow.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request returns an image or PDF; the API accepts the parameter names used by other screenshot APIs, which can make switching easier. For example, capture the Hindi page as WebP:
Quick Recap
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com/hi -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Cookie banners are accepted before capture and 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, including Claude and Cursor. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
