In Chrome, open More > Delete browsing data, choose a time range, select Cookies and other site data, and delete. This is different from clearing the YouTube app’s cache: browser cookies are managed in browser settings, while app cache is managed through your device’s app settings.
Cookies and cache are different
Cookies are files sites create to save browsing data. Cache stores parts of pages, such as images, so they can load faster on a later visit. Deleting cookies can remove site data and settings; deleting cached files targets locally stored page content. YouTube says clearing browser cache and cookies can resolve website loading or formatting issues, but it is one possible troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix. Google’s instructions for clearing cache and cookies describe the browser-data process.

Clear YouTube-related browser data in Chrome
These Chrome steps are for deleting selected browsing data. Other browsers have their own menus; follow the current instructions from the browser publisher rather than assuming the Chrome path applies.

- Open Chrome and select More (the three-dot menu).
- Select Delete browsing data.
- Choose the time range you want.
- Select Cookies and other site data. Select any other data types only if you intend to delete them too.
- Select Delete data.
Google’s cookie and sign-in behavior depends on account and sync settings. Chrome may refresh Google cookies if you are signed in. If sync is on, your synced Google Account may remain signed in while data is deleted across devices. Do not assume deleting cookies will always sign you out—or that it will sign you out everywhere. Google explains these caveats in its clearing-data instructions.

On Android
- Open Chrome and tap More.
- Tap Delete browsing data.
- Choose a duration. Open More options if you need to select specific data types.
- Select Cookies and site data and any other data types you intend to remove.
- Tap the control to delete the selected data.
YouTube says deleting cookies while signed in to Chrome on Android does not sign you out of your Google Account; people signed in to Chrome stay signed in to Google websites. See Google’s current instructions for details.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open Chrome and tap More.
- Tap Delete Browsing Data.
- Choose a time range and select the data types to remove.
- Confirm the deletion.
YouTube warns that clearing data in Chrome on iPhone or iPad may sign you out of your Google Account. Before you proceed, make sure your account recovery phone number and email address are current. If you use Safari or another browser, consult that browser’s current support instructions; the Chrome menu path does not apply.

If you watch in the YouTube app, clear its cache separately
For YouTube app playback trouble on Android, YouTube gives this device-settings path. Menu labels can vary by Android version and device:

- Tap Apps & notifications, then See all apps.
- Select YouTube.
- Tap Storage & cache, then Clear cache.
- Reopen YouTube and retry playback.
This clears the app’s cache; it does not delete cookies from Chrome or another browser. YouTube’s cited route is for Android and should not be applied to iOS or television devices. YouTube’s streaming troubleshooting guide covers app playback steps.

What to expect after clearing data
- You may need to sign in again, depending on your device, browser, and account sync settings.
- Sites may load more slowly at first while images and other content are downloaded again.
- Some site settings may be removed along with the data you selected.
If clearing data does not fix playback
For errors such as “Something went wrong,” YouTube lists other steps to try depending on the problem: check your internet connection, restart or update software, adjust playback quality, or try another supported device. Use the step that fits the symptom; clearing browser data is only one option. YouTube’s streaming troubleshooting guide provides the broader checklist.
