How to Clear Your Discord Cache on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone

A platform-by-platform guide to clearing Discord’s temporary files, including the exact Windows and Mac folders, Android’s Clear cache setting, and the reinstall required on iPhone and iPad.

To clear Discord’s cache, fully close the app first, then remove its temporary files using the instructions for your device. Windows and macOS let you delete the cache folder directly; Android has a Clear cache control; iPhone and iPad generally require deleting and reinstalling Discord. Clearing temporary files can fix stale images, loading errors and corrupted local data, but it will not repair an outage, a blocked account or a failing internet connection.

Before you clear Discord’s cache

  • Close Discord completely. A desktop process that is still running can recreate files or keep them locked.
  • Expect the cache to rebuild. Discord may download temporary images, thumbnails and web data again after it starts.
  • Use the least destructive option. Android’s Clear cache removes temporary files; Clear data resets local app data and can require you to sign in again. Deleting Discord on iPhone or iPad removes the app’s local data.

Clear Discord cache on Windows

  1. Quit Discord from the notification-area (system-tray) icon.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. Select any remaining Discord process and choose End task.
  3. Press Windows + R, enter %appdata%/discord/Cache, and press Enter.
  4. Delete the files and folders inside Cache. Leave the folder itself in place if Windows allows.
  5. Empty the Recycle Bin if you want the disk space released immediately, then start Discord again. It will recreate temporary files.

If Discord still behaves as though its installation is damaged, do not guess at broader AppData deletions. Discord’s troubleshooting guidance describes deeper cleanup separately; use that procedure only after the cache-only step fails.

Clear Discord cache on macOS

  1. Quit Discord with Discord > Quit Discord, or press Command + Q.
  2. In Finder, select Go > Go to Folder.
  3. Enter ~/Library/Application Support/discord/Cache and press Return.
  4. Move the contents of the Cache folder to the Trash.
  5. Reopen Discord. The application will regenerate temporary files as needed.

Clear Discord cache on Android

  1. Open Settings > Apps > Discord. On some phones you may need See all apps first.
  2. Tap Storage or Storage & cache; wording differs by manufacturer and Android version.
  3. Tap Clear cache, then reopen Discord.

Do not tap Clear data (sometimes labeled Clear storage) unless you want a deeper reset. That option removes Discord’s local app data and may require you to sign in again.

Clear Discord cache on iPhone or iPad

iOS and iPadOS do not normally expose an Android-style, Discord-specific Clear cache button. Reinstalling is the standard way to remove the app’s local files.

  1. Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage), select Discord, and tap Delete App. You can also long-press Discord on the Home Screen, choose Remove App, then Delete App.
  2. Confirm the deletion.
  3. Install Discord again from the Apple App Store and sign in.

Deleting the app removes its local data, so plan to authenticate again. Offloaded apps are not the same as fully deleting Discord when your goal is to remove all local app data.

What each platform actually removes

Platform Direct cache control? What you do Does it normally sign you out? Scope
Windows No system button Close Discord and delete contents of %appdata%/discord/Cache No; cache-only deletion normally leaves account data intact Temporary cache files
macOS No system button Quit Discord and delete contents of ~/Library/Application Support/discord/Cache No; cache-only deletion normally leaves account data intact Temporary cache files
Android Yes: Clear cache Settings > Apps > Discord > Storage (or Storage & cache) No for Clear cache; Clear data may require sign-in Cache only, unless you choose Clear data
iPhone/iPad Not normally Delete Discord, then reinstall it from the App Store Yes, because local app data is removed App and local data

If clearing the cache does not fix Discord

  1. Check Discord’s official status page to determine whether the service is experiencing an outage.
  2. Test your connection in another app or website, and restart your router or switch networks if appropriate.
  3. Restart Discord and install the latest version available for your operating system.
  4. On desktop, repeat the quit-and-reopen check to ensure no Discord process remains.
  5. Reinstall Discord from the official Discord download page or your device’s official app store if the installation itself appears corrupted.
  6. When contacting Discord support, include the exact error message and the steps that consistently reproduce it.

Cache clearing is useful for stale or corrupted local web and media files. It cannot make an unavailable Discord service respond, unlock a blocked account or repair defective network hardware.
