Windows 11 does not offer a documented button that deletes Typing insights statistics. Microsoft’s official support documentation describes no clear-history action for that page. What you can clear is the custom inking and typing word list, which is a separate data set, and you can stop Microsoft from using your typing and handwriting samples to improve its services. The sections below explain where each control lives and what it does, so you do not expect one switch to do all three jobs.
Where Typing insights is found
Typing insights is located at Settings > Time & language > Typing. This is the page that shows typing statistics for the signed-in Windows account. It is the only place this guide covers that is tied to the Typing insights feature itself.

Why there is no documented way to clear the statistics
Microsoft’s speech, voice activation, inking, typing, and privacy guidance explains how speech, inking, and typing data are used, but it does not describe a step that removes Typing insights statistics. Do not assume that switching Typing insights off erases numbers already collected. Microsoft’s documentation does not establish that either way, so treat the statistics as something you cannot confirm are gone until you see the page change.

The custom word list holds words that Windows has learned from your typing and handwriting. Clearing it is a separate action from clearing statistics.

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- Open Settings > Privacy & security > Inking & typing personalization.
- Turn off Custom inking and typing word list.
Microsoft says that turning this setting off clears the custom word list. The result applies to learned words only. It does not establish that Typing insights statistics are cleared at the same time.
Stop typing and handwriting samples being used to improve services
This control governs whether Microsoft uses typing and handwriting samples from your device to improve its typing and writing services. It is not a cleanup tool.

- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
- Open Settings > Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback.
- Set Improve inking and typing to Off.
The setting stops future use of those samples for service improvement. It does not clear the Typing insights page or the custom word list. Microsoft describes it in its diagnostics, feedback, and privacy in Windows guidance.
Delete diagnostic data is a different control
The Diagnostics & feedback page also contains a Delete diagnostic data action. Microsoft’s diagnostics guidance does not document that this action removes Typing insights statistics or custom dictionary entries. Use it for general diagnostic data, and do not rely on it to clear typing history.

Devices that use Microsoft account sync
Microsoft says the custom dictionary and some preferences may sync across devices when Windows backup and Microsoft account sync are enabled, as described in Microsoft’s guidance on your Microsoft account data and choices. The same guidance does not establish whether Typing insights statistics sync. If sync is on, check the word list on each signed-in device where you use it.

| Goal | Setting to change | Path | What Microsoft documents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear words Windows has learned | Custom inking and typing word list | Settings > Privacy & security > Inking & typing personalization | Turning it off clears the custom word list |
| Stop typing and handwriting samples being used for service improvement | Improve inking and typing | Settings > Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback | Stops that use; does not clear statistics or the word list |
| Turn off the Typing insights feature | Typing insights | Settings > Time & language > Typing | Whether existing statistics are erased: not stated by Microsoft’s documentation |
| Remove general diagnostic data | Delete diagnostic data | Settings > Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback | Does not document removal of Typing insights statistics or custom dictionary entries |
If your goal is to stop Windows from learning new words, turn off the custom word list. If your goal is to stop typing samples from being used to improve Microsoft’s services, turn off Improve inking and typing. Choose the Typing insights setting only if you want to turn the feature itself off, and keep in mind that Microsoft’s documentation does not say what happens to statistics it has already gathered.
