To clear clipboard data in Windows 11, open Start > Settings > System > Clipboard and select Clear under “Clear clipboard data.” To remove just one saved item, press Windows key + V, open that item’s See more (…) menu, and choose Delete. Microsoft says the Settings option clears unpinned data from the device and the cloud, while the Windows+V option clears device history.
Clear clipboard data in Settings
- Open Start > Settings > System > Clipboard.
- Under Clear clipboard data, select Clear.
Microsoft describes this control as clearing everything except pinned items on the device and in the cloud. Clipboard sync can connect participating devices using the same Microsoft account or work account; Microsoft does not specify an exact time for clearing to propagate between devices. Clear clipboard history with Windows+V
- Press Windows key + V to open clipboard history.
- Select Clear all at the top of the panel. Follow the label shown in your Windows interface if its presentation differs.
This is the quick option for clearing the device’s clipboard history. If clipboard history is turned off, Windows may prompt you to turn it on; Microsoft says it is off by default. You can enable it from the prompt or at Settings > System > Clipboard. Microsoft documents Windows+V as the clipboard-history shortcut; its clipboard instructions describe the clear option.

- Press Windows key + V.
- Beside the item you want to remove, select See more (…).
- Choose Delete.
This removes the selected history entry without using a bulk-clear command. Microsoft’s instructions for deleting an individual item.

What clearing affects—and what it leaves
- Pinned items: Microsoft says clear-all preserves pinned items. The Settings control likewise excludes pinned items.
- Cloud-synced data: The Settings clear control covers unpinned data on the device and in the cloud. The support guidance does not promise an exact synchronization time or specify every condition on each participating device.
- Other copies: Clearing clipboard history does not establish that text or images already pasted into another app are removed, or that data is securely overwritten in storage.
- Restarting: Microsoft says history is cleared each time the PC restarts, except for pinned items. Use the explicit clear control when you want to clear it before restarting.
Clipboard history limits
Microsoft’s support page says clipboard history holds up to 25 copied entries, with older unpinned entries removed as new items make room. Each item has a 4 MB limit.
