To make a Puppeteer page ignore cached resources, use await page.setCacheEnabled(false) before navigating. For just one reload, use await page.reload({ ignoreCache: true }). If you need a separate session, create a new browser context; contexts do not share cookies or cache. These options change request behavior or provide isolation—they are not a general command to erase stored website data.
Choose the right cache operation

Make requests ignore cache
Call setCacheEnabled(false) before navigation or before the requests you want to affect:

Ignore cache for a single reload
When you want one page reload to bypass browser caches without changing the page’s setting for subsequent requests, pass ignoreCache: true:

Use a separate browser context for isolation
A new context gives your work a session whose cookies and cache are not shared with other contexts. Create a page inside it, then close the context when finished:

}Closing the context closes its pages. This is useful when a task needs separation from another session, but it does not clear the other context’s stored data. See Browser.createBrowserContext() and the browser management guide.

Do not confuse browser downloads with page cache
npx @puppeteer/browsers clear removes installed browsers managed by the Puppeteer browser-management CLI; it does not clear a site’s HTTP or resource cache. Likewise, Puppeteer’s cacheDirectory configuration and PUPPETEER_CACHE_DIR environment variable set the location used to cache downloaded browsers. Changing that location does not clear a page’s cache. See the browser-management CLI documentation and Configuration reference.
Check the Puppeteer version in your project
The official API references cited here identify Puppeteer 25.12.0. Since API signatures and behavior can change, confirm the relevant method against the version installed in your project before relying on it.

Troubleshooting
- The page still shows old content: Set
page.setCacheEnabled(false)before navigation, or usepage.reload({ ignoreCache: true })for the specific reload you need to bypass. - You expected prior data to be erased: These APIs describe cache bypass or session isolation, not a guarantee that every stored browser datum is deleted. A new context isolates the new session rather than clearing an existing one.
- The CLI command did not change the page:
npx @puppeteer/browsers clearclears downloaded browser installations, not site resources. - The browser download location changed but cache behavior did not:
cacheDirectoryandPUPPETEER_CACHE_DIRconcern downloaded browser binaries, not webpage resources.
