In Chrome, clearing history is done through More > Delete browsing data. Choose a time range, select Browsing history, review any other selected data types, then confirm. The exact controls vary by device, and if history sync is on, deleting it can also remove it from other synced devices.
Clear Chrome history on a computer
- Open Chrome and select More (the three-dot menu) in the top-right corner.
- Select Delete browsing data.
- Choose a time range, such as All time.
- Select Browsing history. Review the other checkboxes and clear any categories you want to keep.
- Select Delete data.
To remove only particular visits, open More > History > History, find the entries, select them, and remove them. This avoids deleting history for an entire time range.

Clear Chrome history on Android
- Open Chrome and tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Delete browsing data.
- Choose a time range. Google’s Android instructions say the default is 15 minutes; check the range displayed on your device before proceeding.
- Select Browsing history. Untick other data types you want to preserve.
- Tap Delete data and confirm if prompted.
Clear Chrome history on iPhone or iPad
- Open Chrome and tap More.
- Tap Delete browsing data.
- Choose a duration and select the data types to remove.
- Review the selections, then tap Delete browsing data and confirm.
Google’s iPhone and iPad guidance directs users to manage passwords and passkeys separately if they want those removed.
What clearing Chrome history does—and doesn’t—delete
Browsing history
Deleting Browsing history removes visited addresses from Chrome’s History page, shortcuts to those sites from the New Tab page, and address-bar predictions based on them. Chrome’s History page lists pages visited in Chrome in the last 90 days, according to Google Chrome Help. It excludes Chrome internal pages and visits made in Incognito mode. With sync enabled, the page can also show visits from other synced devices; the 90-day scope of this list is not a statement about every copy of activity held elsewhere.

Other data types are separate
The deletion screen has separate options for items such as cookies and site data, cached images and files, autofill data, site settings, and download history. Read the labels before selecting them. Removing download history deletes the list of downloaded files, not the files themselves. On computer, passwords and passkeys, extensions, and searches or other Google-service activity are managed separately. Removing locally stored autofill data does not delete autofill entries saved in a Google Account. Mobile options differ: Android may offer saved passwords as a selectable data type, while iPhone and iPad guidance points to separate password management.
Cookies and site data
Cookies are not the same as browsing history. If you select cookies and site data, websites may sign you out or lose saved preferences. Google’s computer instructions say Chrome refreshes Google cookies when cookies are deleted while you are signed in to Chrome; to delete Google cookies, Google says to sign out of Chrome first. These effects apply to deleting cookies, not to clearing browsing history alone. See Google’s cookie instructions.

What happens when Chrome history sync is on?
If Chrome history is synced to a Google Account, deleting it in Chrome also deletes it from devices signed in to Chrome with that history synced. Google Chrome Help states: “When you delete your browsing history in Chrome, it’s also deleted on your devices where you’re signed in to Chrome and have your history synced to your Google Account.” Check whether sync is enabled before deleting if you intend to affect only one device.
