Clear saved memories in ChatGPT

Open ChatGPT and select Settings.

Choose Personalization, then Memory.

Review the controls displayed for your account. Depending on your experience, you may see labels such as Memory, Reference saved memories, Reference chat history, Memory summary, Manage, or Saved memories.

Use Manage or Saved memories to review and delete individual items, or select the available clear/delete control to remove saved memories. If your summary offers Delete and turn off memory, OpenAI says this removes the remembered information shown there and turns Memory off; it does not delete past chats. Settings can vary by plan, region, platform, and workspace. If a control is missing, it may not be available to your account or may be managed by your workspace administrator. OpenAI’s availability guidance

What to delete for a more complete cleanup
A saved memory and the conversation or file it came from are separate. Deleting one does not automatically delete the other, so choose the actions that match what you want removed.

Delete the original chat or file
Delete a chat
Find the conversation in your chat list, open its options, and choose delete. A deleted chat disappears from your account view immediately. OpenAI says it is scheduled for permanent deletion within 30 days, except where it has already been de-identified or must be retained for security or legal obligations. Check archived chats too if you are looking for a conversation that is not in the main list: archiving is not the same as deleting. If you delete a chat but previously saved a memory from it, remove that memory separately. Memory in ChatGPT
Delete a Library file
If a file was saved to Library, delete that copy in Library as well as deleting any conversation that contains it. The Library file is managed separately from its chat. Using Library to manage files in ChatGPT

Choose the right setting for future conversations
Stop using context from past chats
If your account has Reference chat history, turn it off under Settings > Personalization > Memory. OpenAI says information derived from past chats is scheduled for deletion within 30 days after you turn the setting off, but the original conversations are not deleted by that action. Use Temporary Chat
Temporary Chats do not create or update memories while they remain temporary. A personalized Temporary Chat may still use existing memories and custom instructions, so choose the unpersonalized option at the start if you do not want that context used. Temporary Chat FAQ
Do not confuse model improvement with Memory
The Improve the model for everyone setting concerns whether new conversations are used to improve models. It is not the control for saved memories, and changing it does not delete or hide chats. Data controls in ChatGPT
