If you use ChatGPT in a browser, clear that browser’s cache and, for loading or display problems, the ChatGPT site’s data or cookies. If you use the ChatGPT Windows app, use its documented Reset option instead. The desktop app’s built-in browser has separate controls for its cookies, login status, and history.
Choose the ChatGPT surface you want to clear

Clear data when using ChatGPT in a browser
Open the settings for the browser you use on Windows and clear its cache and cookies. Browser menus vary, so use the browser’s own instructions if you need exact clicks. For a blank or frozen ChatGPT page, or one that keeps loading, OpenAI recommends clearing the site data or cookies for ChatGPT rather than indiscriminately removing Windows files. Reset the ChatGPT Windows app
For the Windows app, OpenAI documents an app reset—not a narrowly defined cache-clearing control. Follow this path:
- Open the Windows Settings app.
- Go to Apps > Installed Apps.
- Locate ChatGPT.
- Select the three-dot menu next to it.
- Choose Advanced Options.
- Select Reset.
Because OpenAI describes this as a reset, do not assume it affects only cached files or that it preserves every other piece of app state. The steps are in OpenAI’s Windows app FAQ.

Clear the desktop app’s built-in browser data
If you mean the browser built into the ChatGPT desktop app, open the app’s Settings and use its browser-data controls to clear cookies and logged-in status or delete browsing history. This browser has its own state; clearing it is separate from resetting the Windows app and does not clear your Chrome profile. OpenAI explains the distinction in its article about the ChatGPT desktop app’s built-in browser.
If clearing data does not fix the problem
Cache or site-data clearing is one troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix. Match the next step to the symptom:

- Refresh the page or restart the app.
- Check the OpenAI service status for an incident.
- Try a private window or a different browser to see whether the issue is browser-specific.
- Temporarily disable extensions, VPNs, proxies, or security filters that could interfere with the connection.
