For most Android phones, the best way to clear an app’s cache is in Settings—not with a dedicated cleaner. Open the app’s storage controls and choose Clear cache. Use it for a specific app that is misbehaving or taking up unusual space; clearing every cache on a schedule is not a proven speed-up and can make apps load more slowly the next time they open.
Do you need an Android cache-cleaner app?
Usually, no. Android provides a built-in way to clear an individual app’s temporary cache. The official guidance does not establish a need for a separate cleaner or promise that repeatedly clearing caches improves overall performance.

Broad claims to “clean every app” also deserve scrutiny. Android limits access to apps’ private storage areas; from Android 11, apps using scoped storage can access only their own app-specific cache files. Android offers a system request to clear all caches, but warns that doing so can substantially affect battery life and remove many files.

That does not establish that every cleaner app is harmful or ineffective. If you are considering a particular app, check its current Play Store listing, developer, requested permissions, Data safety disclosure, price, and Android-version support. Google says the Play Store’s Data safety section provides information about data an app can access and use.

How to clear the cache for an individual app
- Open Settings. Go to Apps or Applications. Names and layouts vary by phone; use Settings search for the app or its storage controls if you cannot find the menu.
- Select the app. Open its App info or equivalent screen, then tap Storage or Storage & cache.
- Choose Clear cache. Read the button and any confirmation carefully before proceeding.
Google’s general route is Settings → Apps/Applications → choose the app → Storage → Clear cache. Manufacturer menus and Android versions can differ, so consult your phone maker’s help if the labels do not match.
Clear cache is not Clear storage
Clear cache removes temporary data. The app may take longer to load the next time it starts. Clear storage (sometimes called Clear data) permanently deletes all app data. Do not choose it as a substitute for clearing cache unless you understand what will be removed and are prepared for the consequences.

How to clear Chrome’s cache and cookies
Chrome’s browsing data is managed separately from an app’s general cache. For website problems, open Chrome and go to More → History → Clear browsing data. Choose a time range—Chrome’s Android guidance offers options from the last hour through all time—and review the categories selected before confirming.
Clearing cookies or all browsing data has broader effects than clearing only temporary app cache. Select only the data you intend to remove.

Low storage may be caused by downloads, photos, videos, or installed apps rather than cached data. Review your phone’s storage categories and target the items you no longer need.

- Downloads and files: Remove files only if you no longer need them. If a file came from an app, manage or delete it from that app when appropriate.
- Photos: If you rely on Google Photos backup, confirm the photos are backed up before deleting local copies from the phone.
- Unused apps: Uninstall apps you no longer use. On supported devices, Google also describes automatic app archiving for infrequently used apps.
- Files you want to keep: Google’s Android help explains how to copy files and folders to a computer over USB. Moving personal files can address storage pressure, but it does not clear app cache.
