On your Android phone, open Settings > Apps (or See all apps) > Android Auto > Storage or Storage & cache, then tap Clear cache. Stop there: Clear storage, Clear data, and Forget all cars are separate actions, not part of clearing the cache.

Tap Storage or Storage & cache.

Tap Clear cache. Do not choose Clear storage or Clear data if your goal is only to clear cached files.

Google describes Android Auto as technology built into the phone for connecting to a car display, so it may not appear as a conventional app with a launcher icon. You can still look for it in the phone’s app settings. See Google’s Android Auto help.
What the three reset options do

Google’s Android Auto troubleshooting guidance lists clearing cache and clearing storage as separate actions, but does not guarantee that every phone build retains every car-related setting after a cache clear. The steps above avoid the broader reset controls; they do not promise identical results on every manufacturer’s software. If Android Auto still will not connect
Retry the connection after clearing the cache. If the issue remains, troubleshoot the car or connection rather than jumping to Clear storage or Forget all cars:

Check that Android Auto is enabled in the car’s infotainment settings.

For a wired connection, check the USB cable and connection. A cable check is relevant only to wired setups; it is not required for clearing cache.

Check vehicle compatibility and consult the car or receiver manufacturer’s guidance if needed.
These are connection checks recommended in Google’s Android Auto help. Android Auto on a phone is not the same as apps running directly on a car’s Google built-in operating system; instructions for clearing Google Play components on a car display are for that different setup.
