Remove detachable eartips before cleaning, and wash them only if the manufacturer says they are washable. Clean the earbud nozzle or mesh, charging contacts and case using the exact instructions for your model; those methods differ. Let every cleaned part dry completely before reassembly or charging.
Before you start: check the exact model
Sleep earbuds are not all cleaned the same way. Find the make and model, then follow its official care instructions. In particular, do not assume rubbing alcohol or peroxide is safe just because one manufacturer specifies it for a particular model.

- Use a soft cotton swab only where the instructions call for one, and never push it into a nozzle.
- Keep liquid away from openings, charging contacts and the case unless your model’s instructions explicitly describe a method for those parts.
- Do not use soaking, sprays, sharp picks or ultrasonic cleaners based on the instructions cited here; they are not recommended in these model-specific care guides.
How to clean sleep earbuds step by step
- Identify your model. Check its manufacturer’s care guidance before removing or cleaning parts.
- Remove detachable eartips. Clean the tips separately from the earbud body.
- Wash the tips only if permitted. Use the model-approved method, then rinse thoroughly and let them dry completely before putting them back on.
- Clean the nozzle or mesh as directed. Use the specified tool and product for your model. Do not insert a swab or other tool into an opening.
- Clean contacts and case separately. Follow the model’s directions and avoid introducing moisture to charging parts unless specifically allowed.
- Wait until everything is fully dry. Reattach the tips or charge the earbuds only after the cleaned parts are dry.

Removing stubborn earwax from mesh
Bose describes an additional procedure for Sleepbuds II only, for earwax built up on the earbuds that cannot be wiped off. Do not apply this procedure to other models.

- Remove the tips and put on protective gloves.
- Apply a small amount of 3% hydrogen peroxide to a soft cloth or tissue at the mesh opening.
- Let it sit for five minutes, then use a soft-bristled toothbrush moistened with 3% hydrogen peroxide to gently loosen the wax.
- Avoid letting excess liquid enter the opening. Shake off debris, dry the earbud, and leave it open until excess moisture has dried before replacing the tips.
These steps and measurements come from Bose’s Sleepbuds II instructions; they are not a general mesh-cleaning method.

How often should you clean them?
Follow the interval given for your model. Ozlo recommends weekly cleaning. The reviewed Bose Sleepbuds II support instructions say to clean periodically but do not give a fixed schedule, so a weekly interval should not be assumed for that model or for sleep earbuds generally.
Can you use rubbing alcohol?
Only if the exact model’s manufacturer instructions specify it for the part you are cleaning. The soundcore Sleep A20 FAQ gives rubbing-alcohol directions for its mesh filter and, for contact issues, its charging pins. Ozlo and Bose Sleepbuds II instead specify dry-swab methods for their nozzles and caution about moisture around charging parts. Do not transfer one model’s advice to another.

When to replace eartips
If a tip is damaged or no longer fits securely, check the manufacturer’s supported route for replacement parts and confirm compatibility with your exact model. Ozlo says replacement parts and accessories can be ordered through customer service; Bose manuals direct users to customer service.
