Clean clip-on earbuds with gentle tools and keep their charging contacts dry. Wipe exposed surfaces with a soft cloth, and use a clean, soft brush or pointed cotton swab only on areas your model’s instructions say you may clean. Alcohol and damp-cleaning rules differ by product, so check the manual before using liquid.
What you need—and what to avoid
A soft, clean cloth and a small, soft-bristled brush are useful for routine dry cleaning. A pointed cotton swab can reach accessible contacts on models whose instructions permit it. These are optional tools; a special cleaning kit is not required by the cited manufacturer guidance. Huawei recommends a dry brush for grime around the case charging port, and Soundcore recommends gently brushing the AeroClip mesh. Huawei’s cleaning instructions and Soundcore’s AeroClip care guidance describe those model-specific methods.

- Use gentle pressure and clean tools; do not scrape with metal or push debris farther into an opening.
- Do not immerse earbuds or force a brush or swab into a sound opening or port. TCL expressly warns against immersing its clip-on earbuds. TCL’s clip-on cleaning guidance names the areas it addresses.
- Keep liquid away from ports and openings unless the instructions for your exact model explicitly allow a particular cleaning method there.
How to clean the earbuds
- Remove them from the case. Work on the earbuds separately so you can see the surfaces and contacts you are cleaning.
- Wipe the exterior. Use a clean, soft, dry cloth for dust and marks. TCL specifically recommends a dry microfiber cloth for surface dust and stains.
- Clean accessible mesh only as the manual allows. If the instructions permit it, gently brush away loose debris with a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush. Soundcore recommends gentle brushing of AeroClip’s sound mesh; TCL’s directions for its clip-on model specify a different method for certain areas.
- Check the charging contacts. If they look dirty, use only the method your model’s instructions specify. Do not press hard or let moisture pool around the contacts.
- Let the earbuds dry fully before charging. After exercise or exposure to sweat or liquid, wipe and dry the earbuds and contacts before putting them back in the case. Huawei specifically directs users to dry the earbuds and contacts after exposure to sweat or liquids. Huawei Support
How to clean the charging case
- Wipe the outside with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid letting liquid run into the lid seam, charging port, or contact area.
- Remove loose port debris gently. If the model’s instructions permit it, use a clean, dry, soft brush on accessible grime. Huawei recommends a clean, dry brush for the charging-port area of FreeClip and FreeArc cases.
- Clean contacts according to the model’s instructions. Contact-cleaning methods are not interchangeable: Huawei describes a pointed swab dipped in rubbing alcohol for dirty case contacts, while HONOR recommends a clean, dry pointed swab and cautions against damp cloths and excessive force. - Make sure the case is dry before returning the earbuds. Huawei says its case should be dry before the earbuds go back inside.
Can you use alcohol on clip-on earbuds?
There is no universal yes-or-no rule. The permitted cleaner depends on the manufacturer, model, and component. TCL specifies 75% medical alcohol on certain areas of its clip-on earbuds; Huawei allows a 70% alcohol wipe on the exterior of specified cases and rubbing alcohol on specified case contacts, while recommending dry methods for other parts. These are instructions for the named products, not general permission to use alcohol on any earbud, mesh, contact, or port. TCL · Huawei

Other manufacturers give different directions. Sennheiser’s manual for a different earbud product says to keep liquids away and not to use solvents or cleansing agents; Samsung recommends dry methods for mesh and contacts and drying sweat or liquid from contacts. Sennheiser · Samsung. If your manual does not clearly permit alcohol on a particular part, use a dry method instead or ask the manufacturer.

How often should you clean them?
Inspect the earbuds and case when you see debris, after heavy sweating, or when charging or sound performance changes. There is no single interval established for every clip-on model. Brand recommendations differ: HONOR suggests weekly cleaning in its general guidance, while Soundcore recommends cleaning AeroClip’s sound-outlet mesh every three months or when the volume drops noticeably. Dirty or sweaty contacts can interfere with charging. Soundcore says dirt or excessive sweat on AeroClip’s charging contacts can cause poor contact, prevent charging, or stop the earbuds from powering off properly after being placed in the case. - Remove the earbuds and inspect their contacts and the corresponding case contacts for visible debris or moisture.
- Dry any sweat or liquid, then clean accessible contacts using the method permitted by your model’s manual.
- Wait until the earbuds and case are fully dry, then place the earbuds back in and check whether they charge and disconnect as expected.
- If the problem continues, or a contact appears damaged, consult the manufacturer’s support. Cleaning cannot be assumed to fix a damaged contact or battery.
