Remove loose dust before wiping, then use a clean optical microfiber cloth with light pressure to lift fingerprints. For detachable lenses and filters, follow that accessory maker’s instructions: cleaning methods that are suitable for one surface may damage another.
What you need
A clean optical microfiber cloth and a plain bulb blower or soft brush cover the usual needs. A compact lens pen or cleaning kit is optional, not essential. Moment’s mobile kit, for example, includes a dual-sided pen, a microfiber cloth and a carry pouch; its brush and pad are designed for that kit, and the pad fits the small rear opening on Moment M-Series lenses. Do not assume a particular pen or tool fits every phone attachment.

Use tools made for optics. A cloth should be clean and free of grit; a soiled cloth can drag particles across the glass. Avoid tissues, rough fabric and anything that could scratch the surface.
How to clean a phone camera lens or attachment
- Prepare the phone and accessory. Work in a clean area. Turn off the phone if it makes handling easier. If cleaning a detachable lens or filter, remove it only as its maker directs; mounts and release mechanisms differ.
- Remove loose particles first. Inspect the glass before touching it. Use a gentle plain bulb blower or a soft brush to lift dust. Sony recommends a blower and cautions against pressing a brush hard against delicate surfaces in its camera-lens cleaning guidance. Canon likewise recommends a blower for lens dust in its camera-care guidance. These are camera-lens recommendations, but the dust-first principle helps reduce the chance of dragging grit over an optical surface.
- Wipe smudges lightly. Use a clean optical microfiber cloth and gentle strokes. Do not scrub or press hard. If debris remains, repeat the dust-removal step before wiping again.
- Check the exact maker’s cleaning instructions before using liquid. Instructions differ by accessory. Sony says a soft cloth may be dampened with lens-cleaning solution for a particularly dirty camera lens, but says not to apply solution directly to the lens. By contrast, Moment’s QuickLock filter instructions specify dry microfiber and warn against harsh chemicals and water. Follow the guidance for your specific phone surface, lens or filter; never spray cleaner directly onto glass.
- Stop if the mark will not lift gently. Do not scrape, use force or escalate to stronger solvents. Canon advises contacting customer support for hard-to-remove dirt. Tamron also warns against benzene, thinner and other organic solvents in its interchangeable-lens maintenance guidance. For a smartphone camera module or attachment, contact that device or accessory maker for help.
How to store detachable lenses and filters
Put the cap, case or padded pouch made for the attachment back on after use. Keep glass covered and separated from keys, grit and other loose items that could scratch it. Moment says its QuickLock filters come with a protective clamshell case with a microfiber insert; use the supplied case for those filters rather than leaving them loose in a pocket or bag.

Store optics clean and dry, away from excessive heat and humidity. Tamron recommends a ventilated storage place for interchangeable camera lenses and discusses moisture-proof containers and desiccants for that equipment. Those are camera-lens recommendations, not a universal care plan for phone accessories: do not assume a smartphone attachment needs a particular humidity target, airtight container or desiccant routine. Follow its manufacturer’s storage instructions.
Check compatibility before buying an attachment
Phone lenses, filters, cases and mounts are not universally interchangeable. Moment’s mobile lens guide, updated August 16, 2026, describes different case and mount requirements by iPhone generation and says iPhone 16, 17 and newer models use T-Series lenses. Its QuickLock filter guidance also specifies compatible Pro and Pro Max models and a compatible Moment case. These are Moment-system examples, not rules for other brands.

Before ordering, verify the exact phone model, case, mount, lens or filter as a complete combination. A lens that fits the phone’s camera opening may still require a particular case or mount to attach correctly.
