For routine care, clean only the user-accessible filter: check the exact unit manual, switch off main power, remove and clean the filter as instructed, let it dry completely if washed, then reinstall it securely. Filter designs and cleaning rules vary by model, and internal components are not ordinary DIY filter maintenance.
Before you clean the filter
Find the manual for your exact cassette air conditioner and confirm how its grille opens, whether the filter is washable, and how it should be reinstalled. LG’s guide is for a circular cassette system and warns that its illustrations or instructions may differ by model: LG cassette filter guidance.

- Turn off the unit’s main power before opening or cleaning the filter, as LG instructs.
- Open the grille only as the manual describes. Do not force a latch or reach into the unit.
- If the access point requires an unsafe ladder, or the grille is heavy or unstable, get appropriate help rather than improvising.
How to clean an accessible filter
- Isolate power. Switch off the main power before cleaning.
- Open the grille and remove the filter. Follow the model manual’s access and removal directions.
- Remove loose dust gently. Use a vacuum or soft brush. LG and Daikin both describe vacuuming as a filter-cleaning option; Daikin’s guidance is for split/multi-split systems, so the cassette manual remains controlling: Daikin filter maintenance guidance.
- Wash only if the manual permits it. LG’s circular-cassette guidance allows neutral detergent and water for a severely contaminated filter, with water no hotter than 40°C. That is an example for the cited guidance, not a rule for every filter.
- Dry a washed filter fully. LG says to dry it in the shade, away from direct sunlight and fire. Do not reinstall a damp filter.
- Reinstall and secure the filter and grille. Use the manual’s instructions, and restore power only after components are properly fitted.
How often should you clean it?
Use the interval in the exact model manual, taking account of dust levels, operating conditions, and any filter indicator. Two weeks is a manufacturer example, not a universal cassette schedule: LG recommends cleaning the filter of its cited circular cassette once every other week, while Daikin recommends once every two weeks for split/multi-split units.
Keeping a filter clear matters because an obstructed filter reduces air intake and can increase the electricity needed to cool a room, according to Daikin. LG says dust-covered filters can impair cooling or heating performance and may contribute to higher electricity bills. Neither cited guide gives a general measured percentage of energy or cost savings from cleaning.

When to call a qualified technician
Filter care does not include cleaning the heat exchanger, electrical work, or servicing drainage and other internal parts. Daikin advises contacting a local distributor when heat-exchanger dirt is noticeable and notes that commercial-use, large-sized, and specialty equipment requires expert knowledge.
- Get qualified service for persistent drainage problems or leaks, unusual noise or odor, suspected electrical faults, damaged components, or internal cleaning beyond the user-removable filter.
- Do not assume chemical coil cleaners or pressure washing are safe; the cited manufacturer guidance does not establish a general DIY method for cleaning cassette coils.
Maintenance instructions can be specific to equipment families. For example, a Daikin operation manual for named FBA ducted models assigns maintenance to an authorized installer or service agent, recommends at least annual maintenance subject to local legislation, and warns against rinsing or wetting the indoor unit. It is not a cassette-specific manual or a universal service schedule: Daikin FBA operation manual.
