First identify the tumbler’s material
A tortoiseshell look can appear on glass, resin, or a decorated tumbler, and those materials do not necessarily share care instructions. Check the base, packaging, product listing, or care card for the exact item before washing it.

For example, Juliska identifies its Puro Large Tumbler – Tortoiseshell (SKU TO143/210) as a 15-ounce glass tumbler measuring 3.5 × 3.5 × 6 inches. Those details apply to that specific model, not to every tumbler with a tortoiseshell pattern.

How to hand-wash glass without scratching it
- Use warm, soapy water. Wash with a soft cloth or sponge rather than an abrasive pad or rough scourer. Dinosaur Designs’ glass care guidance warns that abrasive cloths or scourers may scuff or scratch glass.
- Rinse gently. Avoid knocking the tumbler against the sink, faucet, or other dishes.
- Dry with a soft microfiber cloth. Handle the glass carefully as you dry it; Dinosaur Designs notes that its glass can be damaged if dropped or knocked.
This is a scratch-conscious hand-washing option, not a claim that every glass tumbler must be hand-washed. Follow the maker’s instructions for your exact product.

Can you put a tortoiseshell tumbler in the dishwasher?
For Juliska’s Puro Large Tumbler – Tortoiseshell, yes: Juliska specifies a warm, gentle dishwasher cycle. The same listing says the tumbler is not suitable for hot contents, the freezer, or microwave use. Follow those limits for that model; do not assume another tortoiseshell tumbler has the same dishwasher permission.
Resin and decorated tumblers may have different rules. Dinosaur Designs says its resin homewares should be hand-washed in lukewarm water with detergent, without abrasive tools, and dried with a soft clean cloth; it says not to put them in the dishwasher. ArtResin likewise recommends warm, soapy hand washing with a soft cloth or sponge for its resin-tumbler guidance and advises against abrasive scouring pads and dishwashers. These instructions are specific to those makers and do not establish what material a third-party tumbler uses.

Care for resin or decorated tumblers
If the tumbler is resin, handmade epoxy, or has decals or other decorative parts, use its own maker’s care instructions rather than transferring glass-care rules. For its handmade decorated tumblers, The Sassy Tortie recommends hand washing with mild dish soap and a soft sponge, while avoiding rough scrubbers, abrasive cleaners, dishwashers, soaking, and extreme heat. That guidance applies to the maker’s own products.
