For ordinary fingerprints on an iPhone, Apple’s general guidance is to turn the phone off, unplug it, and gently wipe it with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. But Apple’s announcement of the foldable iPhone Duo does not give a cleaning procedure for its inner display. Treat that screen cautiously: don’t apply liquid, cleaners, or a screen film to it unless the current Duo user guide or Apple Support specifically says to.
How to clean the foldable screen conservatively
- Disconnect and power off. Unplug cables and turn off the iPhone before cleaning, following Apple’s general iPhone cleaning instructions: Cleaning your iPhone.
- Use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. Apple describes the cloth for routine cleaning as slightly damp. Use only restrained moisture, and keep it away from seams and openings. A microfiber cloth can be a practical choice if it is soft and lint-free; Apple does not specifically validate a third-party cloth for the Duo’s inner display.
- Wipe gently. Use light strokes rather than scrubbing or repeatedly wiping the same spot. Apple’s general product guidance cautions against excessive wiping: How to clean your Apple products.
- Stop if the mark does not come off. Do not escalate to a spray, solvent, or stronger pressure on the inner display. Check the current Duo user guide or contact Apple Support for model-specific instructions.
What not to put on the inner display
Apple warns that abrasive materials can scratch glass and diminish its fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating. Its routine iPhone cleaning instructions say not to use cleaning products except when following the separate disinfection directions. Avoid paper towels, abrasive cloths, window or household cleaners, solvents, ammonia, aerosol sprays, compressed air, bleach, and hydrogen peroxide for ordinary cleaning.

The distinction matters because the available disinfection allowance is not a general recommendation for the Duo’s folding screen. Apple permits specified wipes on exterior surfaces under restrictions: 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes, 75% ethyl alcohol wipes, or disinfectant wipes. Its guidance says to avoid openings, not to use bleach or hydrogen peroxide, and to follow with a slightly damp lint-free cloth. Do not assume those directions authorize wiping the Duo’s inner display; confirm the current Duo-specific instructions first.

Why generic foldable-phone advice may not apply
Apple announced the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, describing a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display with a special nano-texture finish intended to minimize glare. Apple also says high-strength glass sits above and below the folding display panel, joined with custom adhesives. These construction details explain why it is prudent to avoid assumptions, but they do not establish a cleaning liquid, pressure limit, or cleaning protocol.

The announcement does not specify how to clean the hinge-side inner screen, whether a particular cloth is approved for it, or how any protective film should be added, removed, or replaced. Do not peel off an existing layer or add a screen protector based on generic foldable-phone recommendations. Check the current Duo user guide or Apple Support before changing a film or applying anything beyond the conservative routine above. Apple’s announcement listed preorders for October 16, 2026, and availability beginning October 23, 2026; those are product-release dates, not care instructions.

When to get help instead of cleaning
- If liquid enters the phone, Apple advises seeking help from an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store as soon as possible.
- If the display appears damaged, or a stain remains after a gentle wipe, stop rather than trying a stronger cleaner or abrasive method.
- If you are considering adding or removing a protective film, consult the current Duo guide or Apple Support first; the announcement does not settle a Duo-specific film rule.
