To clean a Nintendo Switch 2 controller safely, turn off the console and unplug accessories, then wipe the controller gently with a clean, soft cloth. Start with a dry cloth for light dirt; if needed, use a cloth dampened with water and wrung out thoroughly. For disinfection, Nintendo says to apply a small amount of consumer-grade disinfectant containing about 70% alcohol to the cloth—not directly to the controller.
What you need—and what to avoid
Use a clean, soft cloth. A soft microfiber cloth is suitable if you need one, but Nintendo does not require a special cleaning product; a soft cloth you already have is fine.

- Do not spray or pour liquid directly onto the controller, and do not submerge it.
- Avoid thinner and other solvents.
- Do not use a wet cloth that can drip, and do not use the controller until it is completely dry.
How to clean a Joy-Con 2 controller
- Power off and disconnect. Turn off the console and unplug accessories before cleaning.
- Wipe light dirt dry. Use a soft, dry cloth and wipe gently, following the Joy-Con 2 leaflet’s basic cleaning advice.
- Use a damp cloth for dirt that remains. Dampen a clean, soft cloth with water, then wring it out so excess water is removed. Gently wipe the controller; do not let water drip into openings.
- Let it dry fully. Wait until the controller is completely dry before using it.
Nintendo’s Switch 2 cleaning guidance covers Switch 2 products, including Joy-Con 2 controllers. Its instructions say to use a wrung-out, water-dampened cloth for routine cleaning; the Joy-Con 2 leaflet recommends a dry cloth for dirt. These are compatible approaches: begin dry, then use the damp-cloth method if needed. Nintendo warns: “Please do not pour liquids directly on the product. How to disinfect the controller
If you need to disinfect it, Nintendo’s guidance is to lightly apply a small amount of consumer-grade disinfectant containing about 70% alcohol to a soft, clean cloth, then gently wipe the product. Do not apply disinfectant directly to the controller. Let the controller dry completely before use, and do not pour liquid on it or submerge it.

If liquid gets inside or a control stops working
If liquid gets inside the controller, stop using it and contact Nintendo Customer Support, as the Joy-Con 2 leaflet directs. If dirt seems to have entered a button gap or a control is malfunctioning, do not open the controller or try to clean inside it; the cited Nintendo instructions do not provide an internal-cleaning procedure. Seek help through Nintendo Switch 2 support.
