Turn the combo off and let the cavity, door, and accessories cool before cleaning. Then follow the manual for your exact model and each removable part: dishwasher approval and cleaning methods vary. A soft damp cloth and, where the manual permits, mild soap and water are a cautious starting point. Keep liquid and spray away from controls and openings, and do not assume microwave steam-cleaning advice applies to an air-fryer combo.
What to do before cleaning
- Switch off and let everything cool. The air-fry basket, glass tray, cavity, and inner door can remain hot during or after cooking, according to Whirlpool’s basket-cleaning guidance.
- Check the manual for your exact model. Confirm which parts can be removed, which cleaners are allowed, and whether any accessory is dishwasher-safe. For example, an Igenix IGMC02890S manual says not to remove the waveguide cover. Do not dismantle internal components or force a cover or part loose.
- Gather a soft cloth or nonabrasive sponge. Use mild soap and water only where the appliance manual allows them. Avoid abrasive pads, steel wool, sharp tools, and harsh or solvent-based cleaners on parts that could be scratched or damaged.
How to clean the cavity, door, and exterior
Interior cavity
Wipe the cavity with a soft, damp cloth. If the manual permits, use warm water with mild soap, then wipe away residue with a clean damp cloth. LG recommends warm sudsy water and a nonabrasive sponge or soft cloth for the interior; its microwave guidance also says not to use chemical cleaners inside. Samsung likewise cautions against abrasive cleaners and solvents. Because instructions differ by manufacturer and model, use your combo’s manual if it gives a different method.

Door and seals
Wipe the door surfaces and seals gently with a damp soft cloth, taking care not to scrub or pull at the seals. Samsung advises keeping seals free of grime. Do not pour water over the door or let excess moisture collect around the seal.

Use a soft, damp cloth on exterior surfaces. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the appliance; LG specifically warns against direct spray when cleaning exterior glass. Keep spray and excess water away from the control panel, buttons, display, and openings. Apply any cleaner to the cloth rather than spraying the appliance.

How to clean baskets, trays, racks, and turntables
Remove accessories only as the manual directs, and clean each part according to its material and care instructions. A soft cloth, mild soap, and water are supported for the cited Whirlpool air-fry accessory, but that advice is specific to that accessory—not a universal rule for every combo.
- Air-fry basket: Avoid steel wool and sharp tools where the manual warns they can damage the basket. Do not assume its coating or construction is dishwasher-safe.
- Racks and other air-fry accessories: Whirlpool cautions against abrasive cleansers and scrubbers on its cited convection and grill racks. Check your own manual before using a dishwasher or a scouring tool.
- Glass tray, turntable, and support ring: Wash only as the manual allows. Let washed parts dry fully before reinstalling; LG’s instructions say to return the turntable and support once clean and dry.
Dishwasher approval applies to specific parts, not automatically to every accessory or model. Whirlpool says its cited air-fry basket and air-fry accessory are dishwasher-safe, but that permission should not be applied to other combos or components.

What to do about stuck-on food or odors
Start with a damp cloth and the cleaner permitted by your manual. For stubborn microwave-cavity soil, LG suggests heating a cup of water for two to three minutes to loosen residue. That is microwave-specific advice, not a universal instruction for microwave air-fryer combos. Use the method only if your combo’s manual permits it, and follow the manual’s directions for handling the hot water and cavity afterward.
Do not improvise with steam, chemical sprays, or abrasive scrubbing to remove a lingering smell. Clean food residue from the cavity and removable parts using their approved methods, then allow parts to dry before reassembly.

Before using the combo again
- Check that the cavity and cleaned parts are dry.
- Reinstall removable parts as the manual directs; do not operate the appliance with a part removed if the manual requires it.
- Make sure no cleaner or loose debris remains around the seals, controls, or openings.
