To clean under a blender’s blades safely, first check the exact model’s manual: some blade assemblies can be removed or washed in particular ways, while others must stay attached and must not be soaked or put in a dishwasher. Unplug the blender before hand-cleaning, keep fingers away from the sharp edges, and use a soft, narrow brush only if the manufacturer permits it.
Check your model before cleaning the blade area
Blender jars, blade assemblies, and seals do not all clean the same way. The manual for your make and model determines whether parts can be removed, soaked, or put in a dishwasher. Do not dismantle an assembly just because another blender’s instructions allow it.

- Tefal’s PerfectMix+ BL871D40 instructions identify selected dishwasher-safe components and warn that the blades are extremely sharp.
- A Bosch-group blender manual directs users to rinse the blade/base assembly under flowing water, not put it in the dishwasher or leave it standing in water. It explains that soap and detergent can wash out bearing lubricant.
- Xiaomi’s Blender Pro FAQ recommends a cleaning brush for thorough cleaning, advises caution around the blades, and says hard residue can be softened by soaking the jar. Those directions apply to that model, not every blender.
If the manual is unavailable, look up the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact model before removing the blade unit, seals, or other parts.
Clean the jar and blade area safely
- Unplug the blender. Remove the jar from the motor base if the manual directs you to do so. Never reach into a plugged-in blender.
- Wash routine residue using the approved method. Follow the manual’s self-clean cycle or hand-washing directions. For example, Blendtec’s jar-cleaning instructions specify one cup (240 ml) of hot water and a drop of liquid dish soap, with the lid secured, followed by a five-second pulse or the Clean cycle if available. Rinse the jar thoroughly afterward. This is Blendtec-specific guidance, not a universal recipe.
- Check around the blade hub. If residue remains, use a soft, narrow brush only if the manual permits brushing. Keep your fingers away from the cutting edges; do not force a brush or other tool into seals or bearings.
- Rinse and dry as directed. Do not leave the blade assembly soaking unless the manufacturer says soaking is safe. A rinse under running water may be required for some assemblies.
- Wipe the motor base, not soak it. Follow the maker’s directions for the base. Blendtec says to unplug the motor and wipe it with a damp cloth; it also warns never to submerge the motor.
When a cleaning cycle is not enough
A jar-cleaning cycle can loosen ordinary residue, but it does not establish that the area under every blade assembly is clean. Inspect the blade hub and nearby surfaces after rinsing. If residue remains and your manual permits it, carefully brush the accessible area with a soft, narrow cleaning brush. Do not pry at seals or bearings, or remove a blade assembly the manual treats as non-user-serviceable.

Blendtec also warns that prolonged submersion of its jar may let water penetrate lower seals and says not to expose that jar to temperatures above 176°F (80°C). These cautions are specific to Blendtec jars; follow your own manufacturer’s limits.
Know when to stop and seek service
If the blade assembly is damaged or unusually worn, consult the manufacturer about service or replacement rather than dismantling a unit that is not designed for user disassembly.
