Choose a Mech for its ability and Energy Capacity, then equip up to two Weapons whose combined Energy Cost fits that capacity. There is no universally best beginner build established by the official guides: the right choice depends on how you want to fight and what your account has unlocked.
Start with the Mechs you actually have
Compare each available Mech’s ability, base stats, and Energy Capacity before spending resources. Every Mech has a unique ability, and its Rank affects base stats, including Energy Capacity, according to the official beginner guide.

Think about what you want the Mech to do in a match: get into position quickly, survive pressure, or support a particular objective. For example, the guide describes Paragon’s Boost as a temporary speed increase that can help with chasing, reaching cover, or getting to a Control Point. That illustrates how to evaluate an ability; it does not make Paragon the best first choice for every player.

Check weapon compatibility before comparing damage
A Mech can equip up to two Weapons, but their combined Energy Cost must not exceed that Mech’s Energy Capacity. Check the values shown in your inventory; an attractive weapon combination is not an option if it does not fit.

Compare weapons by how they behave in a fight
Once you have filtered out weapons that do not fit, use the game’s Inventory descriptions to compare the attributes that matter for your preferred engagement distance and tactics. Plarium’s Weapons guide, updated August 28, 2025, identifies these comparison points:

- Firing downtime: magazine size and reload speed.
- Practical accuracy: how reliably the weapon can deliver its damage.
- Area effect: damage radius, where applicable.
- Perk: the weapon’s listed special effect or advantage.
Do not judge a weapon from one damage number alone. A high-damage shot, sustained firing, a larger magazine, or a useful perk can matter differently depending on your range and how you use the Mech. The official guide also notes that Pilots can improve weapon characteristics through Innate Skills, often in ways tied to Weapon type; take that interaction into account if you have a relevant Pilot.
Use a consistent comparison when two builds are available
Compare candidate builds in this order so that a weapon’s headline stat does not distract from compatibility or progression:

| Check | What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Mech fit | Ability, Rank, base stats, and Energy Capacity | These shape the Mech’s role and what it can equip. |
| Weapon compatibility | One or two Weapons and their combined Energy Cost versus capacity | An over-capacity pairing cannot be equipped. |
| Engagement behavior | Optimal and maximum range, damage per shot or magazine, fire rate, reload, accuracy, damage radius, and perk | These attributes help show whether the weapon suits your preferred distance and tactics. |
| Pilot interaction | Pilot Innate Skill and Weapon type | A matching skill may improve weapon characteristics. |
| Progression and Hangar fit | Gear Hub tier and the Rank, Level, and Rarity of your other equipped items | A build should make sense alongside the rest of your Hangar, not just as an isolated upgrade. |
| Mode | The job the Mech and weapons need to do in the selected mode | Different modes reward different squad roles and tactics. |
Keep your Hangar and progression in balance
Current official guidance recommends keeping equipped Mechs, Weapons, and Pilots relatively close in Rank, Level, and Rarity. Its Hangar loadout article, updated July 16, 2026, cautions that placing exceptionally high-rarity Epic or Legendary equipment alongside beginner Common, Uncommon, or Rare gear can distort the Hangar’s overall power profile. This is publisher guidance, not a guarantee about any individual matchmaking result.
The same article says matchmaking can consider overall account progression and highest achievements, so making a weaker preset does not necessarily produce weaker opponents. It recommends tailoring presets to modes: high-damage and self-sustaining Mechs for Free-For-All, speed, stealth, or toughness for Control Point Clash, and a balanced squad for 5v5 Deathmatch.
Rank #4
- Robot Quest Arena is an exciting deck-building board game.
- 2-4 Players will battle it out to become the best Robot Tech in the world!
- Craft your deck to control, protect and upgrade your bot as you fight to knock out competitors in the arena.
- This game contains 4 adorable robot minis that you will use in the arena.
- Navigate and survive the hazards of the arena, whilst also battling your opponents. If your bot gets destroyed, don't worry, as each destroyed bot gets respawned at the end of every round. Ensuring you never miss the action.
For early progression, the official beginner guide recommends opening all five Hangar slots early, completing daily and core objectives, learning Mech abilities, upgrading Mechs, and advancing through Gear Hub tiers. Higher tiers offer rarer and more powerful gear. Build deliberately rather than pushing one item far ahead of the rest of your Hangar.

Use current Inventory descriptions as the final check on Energy Cost and weapon stats. The official Weapons guide directs players to Inventory for detailed attributes, and gear availability or balance can change with updates. An official-hosted community guide by player killerelite_ gives example new-player combinations, but it is older community advice rather than a current universal ranking; use examples like that as candidates to evaluate against your own inventory, not as a definitive tier list.
