How to choose apps for a Brick mode
- Open the Brick app while your phone is unbricked. Create a mode or edit an existing one. Brick’s guide, How do I edit or create a Brick mode?, explains mode setup.
- Open Apps and select the installed apps you want blocked. On iPhone, Brick directs users to Apple’s App Picker; on Android, it directs users to Android’s App Picker. The available choices are apps installed on that phone.
- Add websites separately if needed. Use the mode’s Websites section for sites you also want restricted. Website entries are separate from the app selection.
- Review the mode before activating it. Keep essential apps—such as navigation, safety, or communication tools—out of the blocked selection when you need them available during that mode. This is a practical planning tip, not a special Brick exception setting.
How app blocking affects notifications
Brick LLC describes the product as “A physical device that temporarily removes distracting apps & their notifications from your phone.” In other words, notifications are described as an effect of blocking selected apps, rather than as a second per-app notification list that you configure in the mode editor. Plan selections around each mode
A mode is most useful when its blocked list matches the situation. Build separate modes when your needs differ rather than applying one broad list to every part of the day.

These are starting points, not Brick-prescribed app lists. Decide based on what you need to be able to do while the mode is active.

Platform differences and Android permissions
The selection task is similar on both platforms, but the picker is platform-specific: Brick’s iPhone guide names Apple’s App Picker, while its Android guide names Android’s App Picker. On Android, Brick also documents permissions related to usage access, overlays, notification access, alarms, post-notification access, and accessibility. Brick says Device Admin permission is additionally required for Strict Mode. These are Android setup requirements, not iPhone requirements; consult Brick’s Android permissions explanation for what each permission is used for.

If you use an existing Brick account on a new phone, Brick’s help materials say you must select apps again for your modes. Review both the app selections and any website entries on the new device before relying on the mode.

Brick supports scheduled modes, and its help materials point users to the Schedule tab. For current controls and timing behavior, check Brick’s mode guide rather than assuming a particular recurrence, end time, or override behavior.
