1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe right bedroom TV size depends first on the distance from your eyes to the screen in your usual position in bed, then on how immersive you want viewing to feel and whether the television will physically fit. As useful starting points, Samsung Canada’s bedroom guide pairs 42–43-inch TVs with viewing distances of about 1.3–1.4 m and 48–50-inch TVs with about 1.5 m. Those are examples, not a universal formula: different guides use different methods and viewing preferences.
Measure from your bed before choosing a screen size
Measure from where your eyes normally are when you watch TV to the plane of the screen. If you watch mostly propped up against the headboard, use that position rather than the distance from the foot of the bed. If more than one person watches from different positions, account for the usual range.

A TV’s diagonal measurement does not tell you how large it will feel from bed. The same screen can feel more immersive at a short distance and less prominent across a larger room. RTINGS frames its recommendations around field of view: the portion of your view occupied by the screen. It treats 30 degrees as a mixed-use baseline and describes 30–40 degrees as a useful range. RTINGS explains its viewing-distance method.

Two reputable guides can suggest different sizes for a similar bedroom because their recommendations reflect different methods and viewing experiences. Do not combine their figures into one supposedly exact standard.

| Guide and purpose | Example recommendation | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| RTINGS, mixed-use field-of-view guidance, updated June 3, 2026 | 43 inches at 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m); 50 inches at 6 ft 9 in (2.07 m); 55 inches at 7 ft 5 in (2.27 m) | Use these as distance references for mixed viewing, not a guarantee for every bedroom. RTINGS also offers a more immersive cinema reference. Source |
| Samsung Canada, bedroom examples, accessed October 7, 2026 | 42–43 inches at about 1.3–1.4 m; 48–50 inches at about 1.5 m | Room-specific examples that also depend on placement, number of viewing positions and viewing needs. Source |
| Sony USA, 4K minimum-distance reference, support page with © 2023 footer | Recommended distance equals 1.5 times screen height | A minimum reference based on screen height; Sony says preference and layout can call for adjustment. Source |
The figures answer different questions: RTINGS uses field of view, Samsung gives general and bedroom-specific examples, and Sony’s cited 4K reference is a minimum viewing distance. Treat each in its stated context rather than expecting them to match.
Match the size to how you watch
Casual shows and mixed viewing
If you mainly watch news, regular shows and a mix of content, begin with a mixed-use distance guide. RTINGS’ examples provide a shortlist for that purpose; compare the suggested size with your bedroom layout and viewing comfort.

Movies and more immersive viewing
A closer seat or a larger screen fills more of your field of view. If you prefer a cinema-like experience, use the immersive guidance in a field-of-view chart rather than treating a mixed-use recommendation as a maximum. A large screen is not automatically better if it makes viewing uncomfortable from your usual position.

Resolution affects how close you can sit before individual pixels become noticeable. Samsung says 4K TVs can maintain clarity at shorter distances than lower-resolution sets because their pixels are denser. Sony likewise provides a 4K minimum-distance reference, but leaves room for preference and layout. Resolution can make closer viewing practical; it does not determine the screen size that will fit or feel comfortable in your room. Samsung’s measurement and distance guide and Sony’s viewing-distance guidance explain their respective recommendations.

Check the actual television’s footprint
Screen size is measured diagonally, so check the dimensions of the exact model before buying. Compare its width and height with the wall or cabinet, and include bezel and stand dimensions where relevant. For a wall-mounted set, check the intended mounting method and viewing angle; for a stand, make sure the feet fit the furniture and leave room for other devices.
- Measure usable wall width and height or the cabinet’s usable surface.
- Check the model’s overall dimensions and stand footprint; dimensions vary between models.
- Consider sightlines from the normal bed position and any other regular viewing position.
- Confirm that the installation leaves adequate space for the mount or stand and nearby furniture.
RTINGS notes that its chart dimensions are approximate and exclude bezel thickness. Samsung also cautions that actual TV dimensions vary by model. RTINGS’ guide and Samsung’s measurement guide explain why the diagonal alone is not enough.
Shortlist, preview and decide
- Measure your usual eye-to-screen distance. Do this from the bed in the position you use most.
- Choose your viewing priority. Decide whether your main use is casual or mixed viewing, gaming, or a more immersive movie experience.
- Shortlist sizes using a guide that matches that priority. Treat the examples as starting points; the recommendations differ by method and intended experience.
- Verify the exact model dimensions. Make sure its full body, stand or mounting arrangement suits the available space.
- Preview the screen on the wall. Use painter’s tape to outline one or more candidate sizes. RTINGS recommends this as a way to judge scale in the room before buying.
- Choose the largest candidate that remains comfortable and fits. Factor in your viewing preference, room layout and budget, rather than choosing by diagonal alone.
