Choose from the size chart for the exact merch item, not the S, M, or L label alone. Compare the chart’s measurements with a similar shirt or hoodie you already own and like, making sure both sets of numbers describe the same thing. Then account for the garment’s cut and the fit you want.
Start with the exact product’s size chart
Size labels are not consistent across sellers, garment blanks, or cuts. A T-shirt, hoodie, fitted tee, and unisex tee can have different proportions even when they share a size label. Open the chart for the specific item you plan to buy, and check the garment type, adult or youth category, units, fit description, and available sizes.

For example, Rally & Love provides separate adult T-shirt, sweatshirt and hoodie, youth, and toddler charts. Rapid Silk Screen Printing’s charts cover different brands and styles; its page, last updated April 29, 2026, notes that measurements vary by brand and style. Neither example is a substitute for the chart attached to the item you are buying.
Compare the chart with a garment you already like
- Pick a close match. Use a shirt to assess a shirt, or a hoodie to assess a hoodie. If possible, choose one with a similar cut and the fit you want.
- Lay it flat. Smooth the garment without stretching it. Follow the seller’s instructions for where to measure; reference points can differ between charts.
- Measure the matching dimensions. Common comparisons include chest width from armpit to armpit and body length from the chart’s stated starting point to the hem.
- Compare like with like. Match your garment’s measurements only to the same type of measurement in the chart. A laid-flat width is not a body circumference.
- Check the remaining details. Look at cut, length, and the fit description before choosing between neighboring sizes.
FaZe Merch Store’s size guide also describes measuring garments flat and comparing those measurements with a well-fitting item you own. A flexible tape measure can help, but you may not need one if you can compare an existing garment.

Decide how you want the merch to fit
First decide whether you want a fitted, regular, relaxed, or oversized look. Then find the chart measurements that best match that preference. The Official Merch Report Store advises choosing a larger size for a relaxed or oversized look and a closer measurement match for a fitted look. Treat that as store guidance, not a universal rule: check the specific item’s chart rather than sizing up automatically.
Pay attention to length as well as chest width. Two sizes may differ in more than width, and a cropped, standard, or longer cut can change how a garment sits. If you are choosing between two products, compare their own charts and cuts rather than assuming their matching labels mean matching dimensions.

Check adult, youth, and garment-specific charts separately
Do not assume an adult size converts directly to a youth size, or that a T-shirt size carries over to a hoodie. Use the chart labeled for the item and wearer category. Where the seller provides separate charts for different garments or categories, choose the one that matches your order.
What if you are between sizes?
Compare both available sizes against the garment you used as a reference, then factor in the cut and desired ease. If the chart still leaves you unsure, ask the seller for item-specific sizing guidance before ordering. Check that seller’s return and exchange terms too; policies vary, and there is no universal policy to rely on.

Also treat stated measurement tolerances as specific to the seller. Rally & Love’s undated size guide says its print-on-demand products may vary slightly by ±1 inch; that is the store’s stated allowance, not an industry-wide tolerance. Dzeetee’s size chart gives a separate, provider-specific tolerance of up to 0.5 inch. These figures do not establish what another seller’s garments will measure.
